Anyone else unable to join games as a fireteam?

For the past 2-3 days, any time my son and I join the same fireteam, it becomes impossible for both of us to successfully join a game. One of us will always get “failed to join”.

Also, when “joining” him a few minutes ago, I got an error of “Error retrieving data center quality information. Please try again later.”

For the better part of the past year (I’m not even sure how long it’s been anymore, honestly), my son’s game will 100% fail on his first matchmaking attempt. It will look like it’s joining him in, but then gives the “failed to join” error. After that, he is able to join games. So, up until the past few days, he would have to start H5, let it fail at joining him into a match, then we could create a fireteam together and find/join a match together. I always assumed 343 would fix whatever bug was causing his issue, but now it’s even more broken. I tried uninstalling H5 on my box (xbox one X) today, since I started having the same issue as him, and after re-downloading H5 (RIP my Internet allotment for the month), it’s still having the same issue.

Since Halo is virtually the only reason I even bother having an XBox (and XBox Live), I’m super frustrated. Has anyone else who has had issues had any luck in getting it fixed?

The fail to join first game bug is a very annoying one, but a proven fix (I have tested it myself) is a factory reset of the xbox. The underlying issue is almost certainly a clientside caching one, but that makes it incredibly difficult to fix.

If it’s becoming that big an issue for you I’d recommend giving that a go on your son’s consooe and seeing if that clears it up for you

I have that issue when my friend and I have severely different internet speeds. Check your multiplayer connection

Is there a way for you to fix this issue? I currently am unable to join a fireteam with my friends and play and im wondering if that is the issue i am also having.

This issue happens on the first match. If you play one game without whoever was kicked, they’ll be able to join in for the matches that follow. Think of it like a warm up match and it’s slightly less annoying.

A couple weeks ago that worked for me but last week it didn’t. I just put us back into a search that we could never find a match for. Just a continuous search for basically forever as long as I was in the fireteam. If I wasn’t in the fireteam my friends would get a match immediately

The issue you’re experiencing sounds like it has to do with NAT type. Is your NAT type open? If not, that’s likely what’s causing the issue.

Nope my NAT type is open. I have no idea what is going on and can’t figure it out.

Not that I know of

I recommend looking into Double NAT and seeing if that is possibly your issue.
