Anyone else think the maps are pretty bad

I’m enjoying them.

They seem to encourage and encompass all styles of game play.

I’m a little sad to see CTF disappear from Behemoth. It seemed to function well at mid to high Platinum level  But I get it.

And just like the players needed some time and space with Infinite’s mechanics - so do the map makers. There will be plenty of time for them to be a bit more adventurous with the maps now they know how the players / equipment work in anger.

I recreated the map “streets” in halo 5 forge if you want to check it out. You could offer up suggestions using the map I created. The map is under my gamer tag. Map name, “Halo infinite Streets”

We do not know their Forge plans, but given Tom French’s need for quality, I imagine it’ll actually be pretty in depth… and definitely more than the blank canvas you’re asking for.

I honestly think we’ll see terrain tools.

Blizzard sucks. 343i sucks way, way less and the pro scene for Halo is much older and knows what keeps the game alive.

Behemoth is the best map that 343i has made and I am 100% serious when I say that. It is easily the most “Halo” map in Infinite, and maybe any 343i made game. All of the other maps in Infinite are super generic and could be in basically any FPS game and fit right in. None of the are “bad” but none of them are special. They’re just boringly average across the board.

That would be plaza. Behemoth is boring and uninteresting

Some are okayish, one is very good (Street), and two need to be removed from the game but there are not enough of them. The game get so incredibly boring really quick. The UT99 demo had 6 maps lol.

I liked most of them when I first was introduced to them, but there simply aren’t enough. I know Reach and Halo 3 didn’t launch with a ton more, but they both had Forge. If Infinite had Forge and at least one good Forge map I don’t think is mind the amount of maps, but it doesn’t.

I find the maps to be okay, just not very exciting, and some can be really terrible on certain modes.

Behemoth is a terrible map for Ranked CTF and Tactical Slayer, but I kind of like it for the other game modes due to it offering the freedom of movement for vehicles that are otherwise very restrictive in other maps.

I’ve actually grown to like Launch Site for Tactical Slayer and Fiesta. Hate playing One Flag on it though; the game mode it was obviously designed for.

Bazaar I like the aesthetics of and is all around a good map for the modes its for be it Attrition, CTF, or regular Slayer.

Not toooo much of a fan of Aquarius. I don’t hate it, but I think its my least favorite of the Arena maps. I think its just too much of a competitive map for me, if that makes sense.

Streets is fun. I like playing Strongholds in particular on that one.

Recharge is another one I like playing for Strongholds and Oddball of all things.

Live Fire is probably the best all-rounder map that I enjoy playing on.

For BTB maps, Fragmentation is definitely my favorite, particularly Total Control and CTF. Big Team Slayer can sometimes lead to cases of me not knowing where the enemy team is at times but I like the canyon-style and loot caves that it features and its easily my favorite map to play any mode on.

Except Stockpile. I hate Stockpile, especially on this map. Where the Seeds spawn and the winding/scaling paths to get to them and bring them back to base makes it such an annoying chore.

That said, Deadlock is the only map that I find Stockpile to be bearable with the maybe, sure, kind of, once-in-a-blue-moon actually having a couple a games I’ll legitimately enjoy. Its not as big and winding as Fragmentation and not as infuriating as Highpower can be when it comes to how it favors one side of the map for Stockpile, so its the only map where I don’t feel like I’m being tortured if I’m playing Stockpile.

Overall, I find Deadlock a decent, openish map with some branching paths/caves that make a decent map for any of the game modes.

Highpower I despise playing Stockpile on as much as Fragmentation because of how it heavily favors the the base higher up on the hill. It also has one aspect that is rather infuriating: that being how the Hydra will share the same weapon pads with Ravagers. On a map that likes to spawn Wasps so often, starting a game and not seeing a competent counter to Wasp pilots that can really rack up the kills on this map really sucks.

This may be a personal thing as well, but it also feels like this map doesn’t have as much “order” as the other two maps: like being able to follow and go with the shifting combat that may happen in games like Big Team Slayer as fluidly as I can with the other maps. And the Pelican drop placements just feel…odd to me on top of the Wasp platform spawns. Its a little more chaotic but not in a good way for me.

I dunno, but Highpower is definitely my least favorite of the three maps.

I dislike how each Arena map is essentially just a 3 lane.
Then BTB, back when it worked, shows that the map design does not fit vehicles, even though its BTB. The wraith and Scorpion simply do not fit, and the rest are narrow roads. Which makes the vehicle balancing even worse.

yeah like hotfixes that dont work right

The problem is not the quantity, the problem is the quality.
Comparing Halo 2’s unique / legendary maps to Infinites uninspiring ones is a bit weird.

Streets, Bazaar & Aquarius, are basically all the same map. Tiny adjustments here and there, one ramp here, another ramp there. Square shaped 3 lane maps.
Same goes for Live Fire, has to be the most uninspiring one.

Recharge stands out. I like it.

Behemoth hasn’t got the best layout either, but I can still enjoy it because it’s more open & it plays differently thanks to the man cannons & vehicles. Attrition plays also very well on that map.

Launch Site - I appreciate the attempt to create something more unique, but the map-flow is not optimal.

BTB Maps - I like the Valhalla approach, but I don’t need 3 Valhallas at the same time. All of them are pretty similiar, the covenant turret on Deadlock stands out. Vehicles also need more space, especially the big ones like Scorpions & Wraiths.

Overall, the quality has still gone up (compared to H5) but there is still a lot of work to do. We need dynamique map elements and more unique experiences.

I hate all the maps. I hate the BTB maps the most. They look nice, but weren’t balanced to support all game modes. Notice how large and unique every Bungie map was, with multiple layers of height in rooms, with caves and drivable hills, and lots of ways to get around or get higher up. Notice how small and cramped every 343 map is, with almost no branching paths and alternate routes, no towers with multiple floors, no caves, no underground, and the hills have kill zones IN A GAME WITH GRAPPLE. There’s also no room to drive vehicles almost anywhere. Too many rocks and unclimbable hills.

I think all the maps are fine except for launch site and behemoth. Only problem I have with the others is they visually feel pretty forgettable.

Outside of weird weapon set ups ( and vehicles on a one map ), where one team gets a Battle Rifle and the other gets the Commando. I feel that for the most part the maps are fine.

On BTB maps I also admit I wish wasps that were campaign spawns were easier to deal with at time. Spawn in, get gunned down by a Wasp, rinse and repeat.

Behemoth would probably be funner with Battle Rifle starts, since the map is very open even with all the @#$% laying around the area and it’s easy to get trapped by enemies who just have better options then you.

Halo 2 and 3 had over 20 maps. But NOT at launch.

I like playing ranked settings the most so I would say I like Aquarius, Recharge, Streets and Live Fire. Bazaar is alright although can get a bit stale with it just being a killbox in the middle. Bohemoth would be decent if the outside areas werent so open and there was more cover. Also the spawns on Bohemoth really dont help the map play well in ranked.

I do agree that Infinite needs to get more creative with some of its maps aesthetics too. This is Halo, I wanna see Forerunner architecture, structures in space, something aesthetically similar to the Silent Auditorium, etc.

I would also love to see some maps from older Halos return to Infinite, along with new fresh maps obviously. Here are my suggestions:
Halo 3: The Pit, Guardian, Citadel.
Halo 2: Midship, Sanctuary.
Halo 5: Plaza, Coliseum.

Yea this is a stance I see throw around a lot, most likely due to rose tinted glasses. Halo 2 & 3 both launched with 11 maps total. And depending on who you ask only 1/2-3/5 of them were worth a crap. They didn’t receive additional maps until 6+ months post launch. And even then the DLC maps were not all great… backwash has a special place in hell.

Give it time, more maps will come.

launch site is fine, its just not good 4 v 4 map. behemoth plays better with 4v4 because there is a lot less cover. 343 are going to add more cover to behemoth and people will have the same issues with behemoth

I mostly agree with your assessment but I actually really like launch site and specifically for the reasons that you dislike streets. I too feel like a lot of these maps are small and claustrophobic feeling. I hope that when new maps come out that they are larger so that you’re not instantly in battle the second you spawn. Also, I hope that they tone down the insanely bright player outlines and blinding shield glow

Stick a couple of elephants and you would be good to go… or a monorail like the one from Halo2 (totally forgot about that monorail) great bomb map!
