Anyone else think the explosions in infinte need an update?

Just went back and played halo 2 on MCC, and damn the explosions of vehicles is cool, watching them detonate in realistic ways.

meanwhile here in infinite, they pop apart like freaking legos. I want to see the turret blown off a tank as its ammo cooks off, not have its tracks pop off like lego’s when there is no reason for them to do so.

I want to see a wraith turn into a ball of plasma fire as it detonates finally blowing plasma out of the driver and gunner hatch as the vehicle can’t take it anymore.

I want to see halo two ghost explosions where the battery overloads powering the anti grav in it and causing it to fly wildly.

The funny thing is all of these are possible with the current self destruct timer. The timer could be the start of the explosion.

lets take the banshee for example.

The damage is hit, the “timer” starts, flame starts spewing out of the back as your show for it. Moments later the wings explode with energy you are still flying at this point but you have 2 seconds to get out or die.

As the wings spew flame, the top starts to bristle with flames 1 second left, then suddenly it explodes spewing plasma into the cockpit and killing who ever is there the top flying off with force.

Another example the Razorback

Stage 1: 5 seconds till destruction: The engine catches fire, what ever items are on the back rack fall off

stage 2: 4 seconds till destruction: And explosion happens bellow, the front wheels being blown off if they are still there.

Stage 3: 3 seconds till destruction: control is lost, as the fire engulfs bellow.

stage 4: 2 seconds till destruction: Flame spews up the sides.

stage 5: destruction: The flames finally crack the engine, an explosion rocks the vehicle fire entering the driver and passanger seat notably the rear passangers are not killed.

stage 6: post destruction: The flames spread to the back after another second of burning damaging those in the back before another detonation happens 2 seconds after the driver is killed.

Yeah, they’re definitely on the underwhelming side

I was talking with my buddy about this the other day, and someone else had said it before on these forums, but the explosions are a little too fast to disappear… there’s no time to see the fallout or falling debris besides the animations that shoot away from the explosion and obviously, objects like crates or canisters etc.

Now, when grenades, and Cindershots and Mongooses are exploding from Scorpion shots… hell yeah that looks awesome, but I think it could be a little better.

People have been saying since the flights that the explosions in this game just feel so underwhelming. Definitely agree they need some kind of update.

Which is why I hope this topic gets some traction. Though right now I would throw this at mid/low priority with getting the Matchmaker fixed being primary.

Nah, always preferred quicker, lower key explosions. Hollywood fireballs are kinda’ meh.

It isn’t hollywood fireballs, it is gameplay feel, right now blowing stuff up seems well pointless and it adds to the feeling that vehicles are just weak in this game.

I just like it when things go boom, how the explosion look never bothered me

I don’t know what happened, but even the visual effects need an update on some things.

Late Night Gaming did a video on this very topic actually, especially with vehicular explosions.

doesn’t help when the explosion ultimately just looks like it goes “pop” rather than “BOOM”

They don’t even look like a pop they just look like things fall apart.

which is what makes it so disappointing with the buildup visually and kinda soundwise, it just “Pops” bits off, rather than bits being torn or ruptured like in the previous games, think 4 got this right to a point.

the red glow doesn’t help. It makes it feel like a hack job.

We couldn’t be asked to make an explosion animation and destroyed model, so have a red glow and sounds instead.

I agree 100% and decals in general need a big improvement.

most likely didn’t have enough time due to bad directional management, is the main reason.

what I am saying though is that the red glow while lazy yes, is let down by the explosion of the vehicle, kinda like a cartoon explosion thats then undercut by a simple “pop”

Honestly just glad people are starting to notice. The Phantoms are the worst, a big white flash and then poof! Vehicle de-spawns lol

All the effects are kinda crap compared to previous games.

Yep and that white flash is obviously there to hide the fact it doesn’t have gibs.

The fact you can’t even disarm the phantom makes them feel so rushed.

The Vehicle Explosions are pretty disappointing in this game, won’t deny they have good detail when you shoot the vehicles but how it explodes just really is lacklustre I hope they’ll make changes to this soon

yes they do they look like cheap CGI
