Anyone Else Think the BTB Maps Have Bad Graphics?

I loaded into BTB last night for the first time and was shocked at how simple and lacking in detail the maps in BTB were. Where is the grass? Where is the detail? Where is that cool Halo atmosphere of warthogs rolling over gorgeous landscapes while chaotic battles erupt of waving grass and splashing water? Some objects seem to even lack textures.

Halo Reach looked better than this. Even Halo 3 looked better then this.

Some people might say it’s to preserve the 60fps. To that I say look at Star Wars Battlefront and it’s gigantic maps and 40 player battles and stunning graphics, heck even Halo 5’s campaign has amazing visuals.

Some might say “blah blah training simulator.” That’s just silly because I’m pretty sure the UNSC Infinity can render maps with more detail than an Xbox 360.

To those saying it’s because it’s Forge mode, rubbish. Forge World on Halo Reach had far more detail.

What gives? Why do these maps looks painfully bland and boring and straight up ugly?

These are the best graphics Forge maps have ever had. Calm down and breathe

They’re forge maps, forge maps have always looked like crap.

Honestly for forge maps I thought they didn’t look too bad, though usually I’m too busy trying not to get shot at at the same time as killing every enemy in site to actually be able to stop and look around. It’s actually the only game type I’ll actually try and use a needler… And I would say better looking than past forge maps.

Deadlock actually looks great. Guillotine looks alright, but it is kind of a narrow palette in terms of colours. Basin largely looks good. Recurve is the weakest by far in terms of visuals. Which is really sad, because it’s well designed.

Minus the lack of foliage Basin is frankly on-par with a Halo 3 map in terms of visuals. Great to see that Forge has come this far.

All the maps are crap. They all lack detail. And look as if they were thrown together in a few days by 10yr old forgers.

Ever see Forge World in Halo Reach? It had beautiful detail in it, nice water, waving grass etc.

I think the maps look great, besides the maps were made by forgers, and the forge was overhauled so since they had limited amount of time to build the maps they couldn’t learn before hand, they had to learn while they were building.

I don’t care about graphics anymore I’m not 14. Gameplay is what’s most important and the game plays great!

Great, really? Play 5 games of SWAT and watch the spawn trapping. Yeah, that’s “great”. Slayer maps are way too small. They seem like they were built for esports, small, square, symmetrical.

Having great looking maps isn’t exclusive of game play. I rented Star Wars Battlefront this weekend b/c my friends left Halo 5 weeks ago. The maps look great and play great. It adds to the experience of the game.

343 did a garbage job with Halo 5 maps.

The maps definitely look forged, but they look way better than the grey muddled endless gribbly bits that was Halo Reachs forge maps. Halo has never been known for its amazing graphics/realism or detail…moreso just the art style and excellent design.

I thought Halo Reach maps looked/played much better than Halo 5. 343 just seemed to do a half–Yoinked!- job at so many aspects in this game that it really detracts from the enjoyment of playing it.

I think the maps have the symmetry to be played, also those are Forge maps so the battles in the maps are amazing!! I really like it

Proof right there you’ve never played SWAT. Go play 10 games and report back with your view on the map design. It’s not about symmetry, it’s about mechanics.

The graphics are acceptable. The forge assets just lack the textures that we are used to in the polished maps shipped with the game.

I would imagine that it was done this way so we can maintain the 60 fps while still having hundreds of forge objects on the map. Overall I am impressed with these maps and am looking forward to other community maps to be introduced in the future.

No kidding. 343i kept going on and on how they got the best “cartographers” in the world to forge the BTB maps and yet they ended up looking very amateurish.

What? You’re saying 343 misrepresented their claims to this game? That’s not possible!

yet we sacrificed split screen in order for the highest graphics and frame rate possible. sadly these maps fall short of expectations. i hope they will make some nicer maps in the future, i was expecting the quality of remnant and bloodline from h2a ( or even better quite frankly).

they play pretty well but it is obvious the graphics are bad. i do have a few problems with the overall BTB play but i don’t hate the maps, I’m just disappointed with the quality is all. I still love BTB and i hope that if we keep that playing they will reward us with some higher quality maps.

What happened to the warthog being a force to be reckoned with? Seems like no one ever gets in them because it is so hard to go on a spree with them now. In comparison the mongoose seems to be the most powerful vehicle on most of the BTB maps. Impossible to shoot someone on a mongoose because they are hunched over, and they can kill you in one shot from distance fairly easily. This is off topic but one of my biggest problems with the BTB maps. Not a fan of the new mongoose being so OP
