…a game wasn’t ready for release a company would delay the game instead of push it out with bugs and features missing (file share gone, custom games a mess, glitches everywhere)? I understand that the internet is a wonderful thing and it allows companies to fix bugs that slipped through the cracks but now it looks like patches are for the single purpose of allowing companies to rush a game out and fix it later.
I won’t lie, I’d rather a game be delayed and get some needed TLC for it to be properly ready for launch rather than it being rushed out half broken.
> I’d rather play most of a game and play until it’s fixed than no game at all until it’s 100% bug free.
I’m the opposite, I’d rather have a product work as intended the day I buy it. If they come up with a nice idea after the fact OK cool, but things like the file share being broken or custom games being terrible is frustrating. Especially since we didn’t know about either not being ready until AFTER the game was released.

I thought I was being very calm, actually. I don’t get paid to make games so we’ll just ignore the last comment. But things like the file share are critical to much of the Halo community, anyone who plays custom games (which is more than you think) loves the file share. To have it broken at launch and not ready until after the new year is insane.
343i had no excuse to release the game this way. There’s so many things wrong, content wise, game balance wise, bug wise, and quality assurance wise.
Nobody in this thread dare say “Well 343i is a new company so it’s okay!”
The criteria for almost all the jobs in 343i requires an employee to have been in the video game industry for years and at least worked on one AAA title.
There’s a big difference between a new studio with the industry’s most seasoned veterans alongside Microsoft’s BLANK CHECK, as compared to a new studio with no experience without a blank check.
But right now? 343i looks like the later example of a studio.

How far back are we talking? Because people have been complaining about games being rushed out for years.
Point is, many issues folks percieve are either preferences that won’t get changed regardless of what they feel, or issues that won’t be exposed until the game is in the hands of millions.

So I’m guessing all of the sports analysts on ESPN have invalid opinions since many of them have never actually played the sport they are commentating on?

I don’t see how a broken file share could have slipped through the cracks. That’s a glaring issue.
And the example I was thinking of was Perfect Dark on the N64, so about 15 years or so. That game got delayed more than once to fix issues with the game and it’s still considered one of the benchmarks of console first person shooter achievements.
Yeah I do remember. Good thing Irrational Games have the balls to push Bioshock back MULTIPLE times just to Polish the game more.
As a Die-Hard Bioshock 1 lover (Didn’t really rate the Second) I’m pleased to know that there is still faith in Gaming developers.
Halo has been my favourite game series since I first started playing it when I was 10. Halo 2 was my first Halo Game and I loved that Game to bits, I was 13 when Halo 3 was released and I loved that Game just as much as Halo 2(if not more)
I had no problems with Halo 2, or 3, I couldn’t find anything wrong. As someone who grew up with Unreal 1999, I loved the style that Halo was. Sadly all of what Halo was is no longer there. To add insult to injury, 343 don’t actually care about any of it’s fans. None what so ever.
> First, no game is “flawless”. Second, the game is great and people need to stop whining. 343 did a great job.
Why should people shut up and accept things that do not work? At what point in modern society did excellence in every aspect of a product become an option? Developers used to take a little more pride in their work, and would delay a game to perfect it as much as possible. We don’t see that love and care in this industry anymore.

Actually, many have invalid opinions because they’re idiots that prioritize getting a rise out of the least common denominator without any actual substance to discuss.
So actually, you’re right, ESPN analysts are a fantastic analogy to the commenting base of this forum.

Don’t use the file share system, so I don’t know what the issues are. I assume that its an issue only arose after the system was being used by millions at a time.
So you have to dig back to a game a decade and a half old as your example? You see the problem with that, right?

Actually I would agree that a lot of analysts on ESPN have very stupid and invalid opinions. Take Skip Bayless for example. He’s effin clueless.

I stopped watching football when John Madden stopped doing commentary.

Wow the fanboys on this site are idiots. You really think 343 did a great job with Halo 4? While 343 made strides in some areas, they failed miserably in at least twice as many areas. They have no -Yoinking!- clue what they’re doing.
