Anyone else really like the story?

Not sure what some of the reviewers are talking about. I thought the story was really clear cut and progressed pretty naturally. It seems like they cut some filler missions (which would explain the campaign not being 15 hours) but I never felt lost story wise. Character development was more than strong enough considering this is part 5 of a game that the player base is familiar with and MCC exists for those unfamiliar. Also, I thought the story was just a cool idea even if it did borrow a bit from Mass Effect.

I’ve been playing since Halo CE and personally loved this story. Dialogue is actually not cheesy for once, the storyline is clearly explained and cool, and the gameplay is by far some of the best in the series. My only complaints campaign wise is that it should have been as long as promised, had splitscreen, and needed more warthog. The original trilogy was fun but I thought the dialogue and story were kind of bland. Also, only the H3 campaign and parts of the H2 campaign have held up over time and stayed fun. Reach’s campaign was 50% awesome and 50% boring and the dialogue was some of the most childish SciFi channel esque generic kaka I have ever heard. Halo 4 had some dialogue issues but the development of Chief and Cortana was cool as was the overall story, campaign, and multiplayer experience.

Multiplayer wise I like H5 alot too. I am not great at it but don’t feel like my losses are due to some cheap mechanic. Kill times are fast and weapons are balanced and fun. Majorly missing BTB and large maps in general. It would be nice to get infection and other custom modes back again too.

Totally Agree :)…behind the story it’s conveying working together as a team (Fall of Reach). I can’t judge the campaign on only one play through. The definition and feel of Spartan movement feels great

I know it was a good story people the real reasion people are complaining is because there were only three chief levels

And because they wanted a happy ending with cortana or what?

They’re mad because the marketing conveyed a much different story. If you forget the marketing, the campaign is extremely clear and rewarding. You’ll notice every reviewer who had problems with the story state completely different things than one another. That’s because they’re using story as a scapegoat, they went in expecting one thing, got another, and are now blaming the game for their expectations. You can’t really blame them, but the story itself is definitely a great one.

I agree. It seems that many people are complaining about the campaign. I’m only on mission 7 but i understand everything that has happened so far.

No, it was easy to understand but was painfully full of cliches and made no sense with the EU. The gameplay was great and I liked that, but the story was forgettable at best.

Loved it and its twist. I know i missed some things kinda like i didnt notice how much of a personality the rookie had me first play through of odst.
Def one of my favs.

I enjoyed it and loved the little tid bits between the teammates

edit qouted the wrong guy ignore this.

I like everything except to the cortana thing, which while it kinda makes sense from a story standpoint, it just feels wrong. Like I can get behind an ai uprising instigated by the domain, but the fact cortana is an antagonist feels bad.

I’m one of those that’s been complaining about the story. It’s not that I don’t “understand” what’s happening or why, instead it is that what IS happening in the story is stupid. Why are we following locke? He’s a much more worthless character than blue team. You know what would have been a good story? Focusing on blue team, the original S-II team that have been comrades in arms since they were small children. They have established story and bonds worth exploring. This osiris team is meaningless to me…annoying if anything. And a few lines of dialogue mid-mission about one learning sangheli and one being from a glassed planet aren’t going to suddenly make me care about them like the SIIs i’ve known about for years.

It definitely could have been more fleshed out and richer with lore, but in all honesty I enjoyed the twist and the story for what it was.

The only reason you know about Blue Team is from the books like fall of reach. Well recently they’ve done similar stuff for all of fireteam Osiris, with Nightfall for Locke, ODST and New Blood for Buck, Tanaka has been in Halo Escalation (the comics if you don’t read them) and Vale was in Hunters in the Dark. So it’s your fault for not getting to know them better. Also if you love Blue Team you’ll want to read Last Light. It’s mostly about Fred, but Kelly and Linda do show up as well.

Love the campaign! Thought it was just ok on the first play through, then beat it on legendary and fell in love. Gonna play through again and really absorb everything.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by the campaign, I would have liked more blue team mission, but my expectations of Locke were low, and I finished the campaign actually liking the character. There was an incredible amount of character development compared to past Halo games, (John may have said more in Halo 5 than the original trilogy) which I thoroughly enjoyed. The only thing I was confused about was when Locke decided he was helping the chief. I played through most of the campaign the first night, so I may have been too tired to notice, but I’m sure I will find it on a subsequent play through.

No. Just no. Fall of Reach was a good book. The following 18 novels, books, comics, encyclopedias, animes, “movies”, sucked. They sucked. Nightfall sucked, Halo Legends sucked, Contact: Harvest sucked, Cole Protocol sucked, Ghosts of Onyx sucked. It is NOT my fault I stopped reading/watching/whatever.

It is INCREDIBLY insulting to the consumer to force them to pay for outside content to understand the original source material. Even when it’s free, like Nightfall, I ignore it now. It should be IN THE GAME. It is NOT my fault they can’t tell a cohesive story in the game without outside help. That’s THEIR fault. The fact that not enough people feel similarly is why micro-transactions are now a thing and this story sucks.

The story started getting good around the last few missions, and then it just ended.

That’s your own opinion then, plenty of people enjoyed every book and media piece you just listed. Halo has always been know for it’s ridiculously extensive story and EU. With such a large story to tell, you sometimes have to put major pieces in other areas. The games may hold most of it all, but not a full 100% and that’s a good thing.
If you don’t want to read up on the rest of the EU to get information you are missing out on in the game, then I suggest you go online and read the little snipits people have put together. Otherwise, don’t act like you have a valid complaint.

I have a valid complaint. Just because you disagree with it doesn’t make it invalid. Plenty of people DIDN’T enjoy every book and media piece. Plenty of fans couldn’t even begin to tell you about helljumper or Halo: Uprising even though uprising is what happened between 2 and 3. Just to reiterate: there are fans out there that don’t even know what happened between the 2nd and 3rd game. That’s such lazy story telling a monkey on LSD could probably write it better.

Halo has always been known as the shooter that made video games mainstream. It is not mainstream to go out and read every comic and book and anime. Show me the sales figures for those things. I GUARANTEE you that it’s not even CLOSE to the millions of games sold at release.

Again, I shouldn’t HAVE to go outside the game to fully enjoy the game. There’s nothing you or anyone else can say that makes that not true.
