Anyone else notice that Sergeant John Forge and Chief Warrant Officer Jorge-052 died almost exactly the same way? Both had to improvise using a Translight Drive as a makeshift bomb, both FTL drives were damaged and had to be manually detonated, both chose to do it themseleves sacrificing themseleves to save others and both caused huge explosions in their wake.

This is something that is mentioned on one or both character profiles on Halopedia I believe. I believe that Bungie wanted to either have it as a hidden reference or an easter egg of sorts to acknowledge a game that they did not make.

But more did. Plus, there were still half a dozen Corvettes on Reach at the time (according to the hologram on the Ardent Prayer); so whether he thought he was saving the planet or not, he died for nothing, but Forge didn’t.

Not quite. You don’t know how many troops, supplies and armaments were aboard the L.N.O.S. all of which could have been used later such as the Battle of Installation 04 or Battles of Earth. I mean you do realize how -Yoink- large a Covenant Supercarrier is right? Almost 18 miles long. Hell, its possible that if the Supercarrier remained active the PoA never would have survived and Humanity would have been doomed. You don’t know how many lives were saved thanks to the Solace being taken out. Thousands if not hundreds of thousands might have been saved due to the slight thinning of Covenant on the Reach. Sure Jorge may not have saved Reach with his sacrifice but he certainly did not die in vain.

Er… what? If they’d just used the SMACs against it then it wouldn’t have been a problem, yet Bungie forgot that they even existed and needed a way to kill off a characters so they went with that.
I don’t understand how you figure that 1 ship would have posed a greater danger to the Autumn than over 300…

The Super Macs were out of range. And yes one Supercarrier is more dangerous than 300 Corvettes. You know why? Because the Supercarrier could easily hold far more ships, troops and supplies than that.
