So forge has always been one of my favorite things to do in Halo since Halo 3 came out. And with every game, it’s gotten better and better. It was never too complicated, and the controls were great. With Halo 5’s forge though, it seems way too complicated for the casual forger. Not that I’m a casual forger, but I can see how it would be far too difficult for most people. I for one have always used forge, and know most of the tricks, etc. but I am unable to create a half-decent map with Halo 5. I work for like several hours trying to build a small/simple building that would take ten seconds to create in Reach, and then end up giving up because it’s too frustrating and takes far too long. Also I noticed that a lot of items don’t really work properly for me, especially the lights. And for some reason my objects won’t ever weld properly, though I am 100% sure I am doing everything correctly. Not to mention the controls are horrible. It seems 343 is only focusing on pleasing the small amount of forge pros as opposed to the majority of Halo fans. Believe it or not, this is the very first time I have ever complained about something in a Halo game. I didn’t even complain at all with the launch of MCC, but this is just ridiculous!
Honestly i love forge yeah i know the controller settings were a little odd at first but when you hwt use to them it was awesome and you can do so much in forge but everyone has there own opinion and personal point of view on forge and at least you tried for a few hours and gave it a try and I think thats pretty cool of you to do unlike others who play for 10 minutes hate the controller settings so give up and dont even try to learn them because it takes time to learn stuff and they dont want to loose there jerking off time so they give up
I love it…I personally don’t use it to create…
But I’ve seen some really impressive things others have made that surpass other halos in quality I wish there was a proper file browser…
This forge is an improvement, it allows you to mess up and grab groups and move it. although I understand what you mean by creating a room it takes longer.
older forgers had pre-made buildings with with hallways and such where as here you get basic block shapes and you have to be creative to build yourself.
I think you have to challenge yourself in being more creative. I do agree the casual forger can’t slap “snipers nest” object into places and make it look cool.
I gave up on Forge pretty quick. Previous forge modes were all simple to pick up but still had quite a bit of depth. Now it is a slog to learn the controls and even when you do you have to built absolutely everything from scratch. I can see why hardcore forgers like it, but its just not “fun” anymore.

try forging with multiple people at once, it makes it much more fun

I would if there was still split-screen. None of my real life friends have an Xbox One and I have no desire to make online friends.
That is quite your issue blaze of glory. You’re missing out.

the things you can make In halo 5’s forge…
you see this map?
Things that would have taken me days to do, I did them in minutes thanks to the new forge tools. Mere minutes. The grouping, welding, new tools and functionally make forge sooooooo much easier and better.
At first it took me a while to make even simple
things, but I got used to it and making things is so simple and it’s so good. This forge has so much depth and complexity. It’s amazing. It’s great.
Honestly? You should just learn it. Just learn it, go. It’s not that complicated once you get the hang of it. And do read the text on screen.
I think the new forge is a little overly complicated. The need to simplify it a bit more. I liked the way Halo 4 and Reach’s forges worked.

Why? So I can build maps by myself, play them by myself, and have nobody ever see them? No thanks. The only enjoyment I ever got out of forge was messing around with friends, and now I can’t do that.
Like I said, this forge is create for the hard core map makers, but for people who just want to mess around the controls and lack of structures make it a chore.

Dumb it down? No thanks. Forgers wanted a lot of features and we got many of them.
Sounds like a personal problem if you don’t play with friends online. Quickly throwing together a structure isn’t very hard. Did you see the video of the moving bus? I spent a few hours I think messing around in forge that night. Making buses and stuff, it as very fun.
I consider myself a casual forger, but even I could get used to the controls. I quite enjoy the forge and I’m making a halo 5 version of “the cage” atm.
Iv put many many hours into Halo 5 forge and learnt the controls and menus if by heart but it takes me forever to build anything in it because of the select system and the rotation system. I know how to use them but I just can’t get into the flow of it.
I like some of the features but I don’t like how the lightmap baking is really low quality and gives of blotchy results even with only a few blocks placesd. I dislike that you can no longer toss objects in monitor mode or drag an item about without holding a button but most of all I really hate the lack of interesting shapes.I know using primitive shapes is better for map building but I miss the building tab from Reach and 4 because sometimes I want to try make things by mixing up items instead of just placing a lot of blocks together.
I really really dislike the new forge and to me it seems like the fun has been sucked out of it compared to previous versions.

That’s your problem. I can easily find people to play with for customs.

Same with me, I think I’m a casual Forger but I’ve gotten used to the controls with ease.
This forge is extremely good! And i mean extremely amazingly good! BUT… you need the time and patience, thats whats changed, all previous halos you could make a full on map in one evening… easily… but with this one to make a full functioning proper map, it takes a good 3 evening maybe 4… and the effects you can do and the style of the maps are insane! Not only that but the controls do take ages to get used to, i managed to learn them after about 2-3 hours and now im fluent with them… once youve got used to it, its an insane tool, it really really is!! ive just finished a map called Submerge on my channel SlashedGaming… thats a map based underwater and you can actually do that effect, never been able to do that before! And rain effects, snow effects, fog, sparks, fire, lighting, just everything, maps look so stunning!!
I agree that at first it can be a bit complicated, but after a few hours of getting used to the controls, and learning how to do some of the things i struggled with I really started to get the hang of it. Now if we could just get a scaling option that would be great. Also does anybody know if there is an Undo button because a lot of times a delete something on accident and have to replace it from scratch.

There is no undo button im afraid, it would be useful if there was! but i doubt for some reason they’ll implement it… hopefully theyll implement it in H6 like theyre going to try with AI
I don’t like forge, I never have, I cannot remember forging anything in Halo, the only map making I ever did was in the first Far Cry, but I’m happy Halo 5 has it for the forgers at last.
Best forge yet. It puts all the other forges to shame.
