Overall I’m excited about Guardians but I can’t help but be a little miffed by the fact that all this promethean stuff is pretty much here to stay from here on out. From the visual aesthetic, to the enemies to the weapons.
IMO none of the promethean weapons added anything to the multiplayer. Gameplay wise I think they are just kind of bad, plus they are unsatisfying to shoot and I don’t like the sounds.
the promethean enemies were just too easy in the campaign and all you really need to do to kill the Knights on legendary is rush them with a suppressor while strafing and melee.
And I thought The Didact was a facepalmingly bad villain.
Rushing Knights with a suppressor on legendary!? What are you on?
Aside from that, The Didact is brilliant if you’ve read the books, and from the looks of how they’ve reworked the LR from a utility into a semi-power weapon, the Promethean weapons in general are becoming a lot more unique.
The flood always freaked me out playing in the dark with my headset on. I like this new enemy. Plus they are really hard to kill, making the campaign somewhat of a challenge.
i think the promethean asthetics look great, i was just hoping to get more unique weapons with the promethean weapon set instead of reskins of existing guns. the sentinel beam was unique hopefully they can bring that back and add some more from there.
I want more unique weapons from the forerunners. Something that can manipulate gravity or whatever like the Didact could when he was controlling the chief, like a gravity gun. I would love to use that to push back grenades back to the spammers.
The Prometheans themselves are a bit strange to me. In the past everything was always sentinels, and now we have these bipedal humanoids fighting us.
I don’t like them as an actual enemy either. Seem very bullet spongey, and they constantly teleport away from the fight (where have we heard that complaint before…).
Was legitimately pissed the other day because I had to fight them and only had a suppressor / boltshot to do it.
The weapons look fine, imo, but the enemies don’t. I’d rather them look the same as pre-composed Promethean, with their cool armor and helmet (can be seen during Halo 4’s terminals), but with digital voices and roars like the ones we have now.
The promethean’s as a permanent third faction has potential, the problem I think is that it hasn’t been realized yet. Three enemy types and six weapons isn’t enough to flesh out a faction.
Halo CE introduced the covenant, but Halo 2 actually fleshed them out as a faction, giving them ten weapons and seven different enemy types, far more then the three weapons and four different enemy types of CE.
I think Halo 5 will flesh out the promethean faction in a similar way.

They are just far too easy to kill that way. shrugs
Maybe he is different in the books but I’m talking about the game and have no interest in the books.
I hope you’re right and the promethean weapons do improve in general and don’t feel like they were shoehorned into the sandbox.
Im not a fan of how bulky they are, id rather them be more Human structured, like have arms legs and a head, not arms legs and a giant thing on their back.
in halo 5 they should be more aggressive and more agile.
I’m fine with them in general, I didn’t even mind them being bullet spongy to a degree. I just had a problem with 343 starving us for ammo in Halo 4 campaign. I’m fine with more limited ammo in multiplayer but it was really obnoxious in campaign. Spongy enemies is not a deal breaker, limited ammo is not a deal breaker, but spongy enemies + limited ammo = frustration.
As I elaborate on as part of this thread: Halo is now a twitch shooter [Post 9], Prometheans are bullet sponges with one hit kill weapons, and their weapons don’t add anything new. Hardlight: light goes through shields. Hardlight weaponry should therefore BYPASS shields, and be reflected by mirror-like surfaces.
As to the Didact–he’s a great character, and I definitely see the potential for him to be a great villain…in the books. Halo 4 just expected people to have read the books and watched the terminals. In actual gameplay/ cutscenes it boils down to “I am the bad guy. I will kill you and destroy Earth.” The Halo 4 Epilogue mitigated this somewhat, but it was too little, too late.
–Wait-- you rushed Prometheans on Legendary with a Supressor? How on Earth did you do that? With all of the Incineration cannons, Binary Rifles, Scattershots and Promethean Blades, let alone the teleport abilities–you must have been able to react very quickly.
I was disappointed there weren’t more enemy Promethean types in Halo 4. No sentinels and enforcers joining the fight really bummed me out.
As for the forerunner design, I was a tad disappointed. The knights and watchers look a tad wonky. Maybe their design looks like they tried too hard to smooth the edges. I would have preferred something slightly more boxy or hard-edged. I was surprised with the crawlers but I just can’t I just can’t get over their canine-style design. I just don’t find it cool or threatening. Just a little silly.
As for the weapons. I think most of the designs are alright. The incinerator and binary rifle are my favorite designs. What I do hate though is being starved for ammo with them. The spare ammo you carry for them is pathetic, especially with the scattergun. I never pick it up cuz I know I’m going to run out of ammo quick and I typically have another gun with plenty of ammo that will carry me through just fine.
I loved the Promethan Light stuff. Cool effects - and a way to add different gun versions in a Halo Game w/o making the fans cry: “It becomes to much like CoD”. … … jk …
Ì liked the Light Weapons - and I won’t delete one, because all worked alright. But they were indeed all like Smg, Marksman Rifle, Sniper and so on. For a Sci-Fi-Like Game, there should be more “intresting” weapons with unique properties. There are so many possibilities.
But looks like the Halo Franchise has to wait on them until they appear in CoD Ghosts 2 or 3 or AW 2
This may be a little off topic, but I wonder why the Prophet’s Bane weapon in the beta wasn’t designed as a Promethean melee weapon. Would have been very cool to have an orange promethean lance that looked similar to what the honor guards carry, kind of showing the fact that the Covenant got that technology from the Forerunners. The lance/sword could incinerate, like the other promethean weapons that do that. Would be terrifying to see an ememy with that.

Because its not a Promethean Weapon? And just an Unique Plasma Sword for/from the Arbiter?
