Anyone else miss the Grenade Launcher?

I feel like Reach had an overall excellent sandbox (aside from the Plasma Rifle/Plasma Repeater being redundant), and I was disappointed at the lack of the Grenade Launcher in Halo 4.

It was an interesting weapon to me - it could be absolutely lethal against infantry, but it wasn’t an “easy kill” weapon like the Rocket Launcher. Learning to use it effectively felt like an accomplishment.

I almost see it as being in a different class of “power weapons” than a Rocket Launcher. Weapons like Rocket Launchers and Shotguns have relatively small skill gaps, and using them effectively is largely based on proper positioning.

I find the Grenade Launcher falls into a similar category as the Sniper Rifle. IT was a weapon that could turn a game around in the hands of the right player, but it was absolutely useless in the hands of someone who wasn’t well-practiced with it.

I really enjoyed the grenade launcher. I was somewhat disappointed at the sticky det though.

The grenade launcher actually took a certain amount of skill to use.

I found it to be very useful against Falcons.

i disagree with you, it takes less skill to use it than sticky det.

I’ve simply destroyed people with it, so do i want it back? no i think we are better off with sticky det.

Agreed. More to the point, I found it enjoyable to use, unlike the Sticky Detonator. The bouncing projectile was something different, not a redundant Plasma Grenade clone with a gimmicky radar feature tacked on.

Also, could you do this with the Sticky Detonator? Thought not.

Aim. Shoot. Stick. Boom.

Not to mention the beeping and the blinking red light was avoidable if it was set as a trap.

The nade launcher was required to have you hold it down and measure the distance. You could bounce it around corners and stop vehicles.

Maybe you had the skill.

i find it harder to use the sticky. the launcher was just look at an enemy shoot hold the trigger and let go and they die. i would destroy people with it especially on sword base

Problem with the sticky detonator is the type of damage it did sometimes, and also how visible it was, and how little time it lasted. a lot of the weapon concepts are nice but not executed properly.

My problem with the grenade launcher is the primitive design. If you want to put an explosive between each shot, make it accept magazines but have the canon be, the ones in game play are special rounds that you load for bigger explosion and EMP so it isn’t used in a magazine.

I really miss the Pro-Pipe. I get that its design is very primitive but it still one fun weapon.

Sticky det can’t bank like the GL. The sticky det can’t explode in the air like GL or EMP. It was a great anti jet pack weapon. With the handicapped Sticky Det in Halo 4, you might as we’ll not attempt any long shots at jetpacker. You’d be dead before you know it.

The GL obviously has better skill gap to it than Sticky Det.

I do sorely miss the grenade launcher, but I’m also a huge fan of the sticky det. I’m a sucker for sticky weapons in general.

I honestly think the Pro Pipe may have been my favorite weapon in the Halo series yet, the amount of skill that could be used on it was great. Yes there were easy ways to get kills, aim, shoot, boom. But when you were playing CTF and you knew someone was around that corner defending. You could just pop that thing off, bank it, and destroy them - it was great. Sadly I don’t suspect that it will be making another appearance in Halo 5.

I miss the grenade launcher as well.
It was/is one of my favourite weapons. Probably top 3.
You could get some fun and interesting kills with it since it could bounce and you could make it explode whenever you wanted.
I really hope they bring it back in some sort of way!

Some fine tuning, and it can return in a way I think everybody can agree on.

The Pro Pipe was one of the great successes of Halo Reach, I found it strange that it was removed in favor of a C4 style weapon. I found mid air detonations and ricochets much more interesting than sticks. The only things I might want to change about the Pro Pipe is I would probably give it more friction for setting traps and I would like a double tap trigger like the Sticky det.

I completely disagree with you.

The sticky det takes so much less skill to use than the glorious GL.

Firstly, because you can aim it straight at your target in close range situations, and even be lucky enough for it to stick to them. If you did the same with the GL it would simply bounce off them and do virtually no damage. Instead, you had to use your brain and bounce it off a wall or the floor to kill them : As seen here

Secondly the blast radius on the sticky det was insane. Easily capable of multi kills, whereas with the GL unless you were very accurate the best you could get was shield damage.

Lastly with the GL, you can’t easily fire it on the floor and sit round a corner with a radar telling you exactly when someone walks over it.

I really miss it. Sure I did this with it:

I clearly remember avoiding it because I knew I sucked at it, but it would be nice for it to come back as it was a weapon that required skill.

Yep I destroyed people with it on sword base too. And I destroy everyone with sticky detonator too. For most of my friends, they agree that launcher was harder as they couldn’t time up the blow up correctly with the bounce and distance, where detonator is easier to figure out. My friends are my control group, if they struggle with one and succeed with the other, I see it as easier to use.

Another example is halo 3 vs halo 4 sniper. Only a couple of my friends were good with halo 3 sniper while literally all but 1 are good with the halo 4 sniper. The community thinks halo 4 sniper is easier to use in general, which holds true with my control group of my friends. Not the greatest example, but better than nothing.

I’d argue they are both easy to use in general but not the point. Launcher had more utility than detonator because of the wall bounce. So that’s my preference, even if it’s used against me.

Then you’ll LOVE what I’ve got

I would LOVE to see the GL return.
