When they showed that Halo 4 was on a brand new planet, the scanning thing that was in Halo Anniversary, and that some former Metroid Prime people were working on it and I was hoping for some cool exploration elements but, there were none. I feel like Halo has a cool story but, sometimes it isn’t explained in the games and having exploration could really help that part.
Well…i haven’t really played a Metriod game too much so i don’t really know what you mean.
But if you are asking for more exploration than yes
I would like for Halo 5 to have some huge levels like in Halo CE/A.
Like The Silent Cartographer or Assault on the Control Room, that would be amazing.
343i definitely needs to make a longer campaign this time around, more vehicle missions, bigger levels, We should be able to watch the terminals in campaign like in Halo CEA, not in waypoint because that is just ridiculous, it makes more sense to watch the terminals as soon as we find them, if they would have done that in Halo 4 then many people wouldn’t have been so confused about the story, it also makes the experience better.
This is actually a good idea on filling in the lore for people who don’t read the books. Metroid games use the scanner to give information about enemies and the environments, and since 343 said that future Halo games will be more lore heavy, as illustrated in Halo 4 with the librarian and what not, this can be a good way to fill in lore in an easy way.
Sure there are terminals that do that, but those often make more questions than they answer.

I’d even say bigger than these missions. We’re two generations after the first xbox after all… It’s a shame the biggest missions are in the first game…
And yeah, a more Metroid like approach would totally work with Halo and be very welcomed.
I think a more exploration like approach will help fresh out the backstory more especially for those people that are new to the series. The big issue with the game is that all the backstory is in the books and is simply to time consuming and not very convenient to read them or play the previous games.
I can imagine visiting forerunner installations in a open word environment and inspecting them to unlock secrets. The scanner ability probably can be used to find hidden symbols , terminals , easter eggs , etc and be used to unlock those secrets or maybe use the kinect to type in secret codes in the installations like in waypoint. I think that might make the puzzle solving more fun ,although as long as exploring optional .
Metroid had excellent boss battles. They should definitely throw some in.
We can’t let Halo 2 and Halo 3’s botched engagements hold back Halo.
