Anyone else here use recon controller settings?

what the best playlist to play while tying to get use to new controls? And does anyone else use recon? I’m getting my -Yoink- kicked.

I use recon and I like it. The only drawback is trying to aim with ground pound since I have to take my thumb off the control stick. The best playlist to get used to the controls is a custom game, but most playlists are fine for that. If you don’t want to mess with your stats, then just play Firefight. For any new control setup, it’s going to take time to get used to it.

It may not be the most optimal button layout, but Recon is hands down my favorite. Probably best to practice in firefight against AI, and once you get the hang of things you drop into PvP.

I’ve used Recon since Halo 3. It was the easiest from the Halo 2 transition and it stuck ever since. I don’t have a problem, but I do use Claw Grip and Legacy Sticks when I play, so I can still hit every button and aim while jumping and moving around without having to take my hands away from certain controls.

I rarely ground pound and I just noticed that yesterday hahaha. But so far I love the lay out and I’m starting to get the hang of it.

I have played Recon for a long time and have a couple tips which may help you out:

  • Get a controller with paddles. Being able to jump while strafing is extremely helpful - Learn the Thrust slide inputs: Sprint, thrust, slide, jump [X, LB, LS click, A]. If you don’t already know what this mechanic is, learn it. You’ll feel when you get it right. - Practice aiming ground pounds. I hold B and take my left hand off the left stick and grab the right stick with two fingers. The motion now comes naturally to me. - Practice cancelling scoping. It’s annoying to click RS to descope. Get used to YYing or meleeing. If you want to quickscope really quickly, move your right index finger so that it can touch both RT and RB at the same time. Click RS, pushing RT with the bottom of your finger a few frames later. Roll your finger up to hit RB which cancels the scope with a reload, which can be cancelled with a YY. This one is technical and very situational, but a lot of fun you can get it right.
