Playing on Legendary and it seems the AI get dumber. It literally takes 4 seconds for the AI to release I’m downed and the 2 seconds to start to react, by which time they are downed.
Not that I mind the challenge, it’s just frustrating on occasions that Buck is staring at me and does nothing.
It’s nice playing alongside those characters, but I’m not sure how I feel about the AI. For example, In previous Halo titles, at certain points, I could sneak around and beat up enemies without raising alarm, while this game they seem to get in the way and alarm the enemies of our presence. They seem to do a lot of stupid things. It might be best playing with buddies over Xbox Live, but I don’t have three other Halo buddies.
Idk, I didn’t have a problem with them. I just micromanaged them. Just beat the campaign legendary a few hours ago equiping them all with the suppressor really makes them into death machines. (There programed low accuracy goes out the window with the gun whose rounds who seek)
Whats more annoying is when you climbed up somewhere, not even high up, and they just run into said object. Sometimes they manage it, but 90% of the time they don’t. So irritating when you are on mission 14 on legendary facing 3 wardens
"Move to that position" instead of jumping on the ledge like I did, they run all the way through enemy lines to then take the slope - “Move to that position” just to get the response "Alright right after I kill this [enter name of enemy] - “Pick up that weapon” Nah I’m fine - “Get in that vehicle” Buck steps in the Warthog, Tanaka on the gungoose, seriously Tanaka? Get in the dang Warthog! - Equips team with Binary rifles “Prioritize that enemy” I get the response “On it Sir!” they then move straight into the open within shotgun range to then shoot the enemy with the binary rifle - “My armor has locked help me!” Stare at my body for 4 seconds before moving making me die - “My armor has locked help me!” Run into a wall not making it in time, die - “My armor has locked help me!” Jump up a wall repeatedly not clambering, die - “My armor has locked help me!” Run through enemy territory while there is a perfectly fine save walkway right next to me which they can get up but no, All dieWhile they have certainly helped me in Legendary to pick me up etc, I feel like they were mostly only useful in Normal mode. The Arbiter in Halo 3 did much more work than my fireteam in Halo5. I hope the AI gets reworked a lot in Halo6 so far I’m only seeing the Artificial but not the Intelligence. Hurr hurr, sorry…
I understand why they dumbed them down which was to make the player feel important but they could use some work. They don’t need to destroy everything but they at least need to play smart. I see them standing around a lot which is extremely frustrating if I’m down and they refuse to even move >__<
My solutions:
Increase the AI’s movement speed AKA make them actually sprint for cover and to wherever you are pointing and let them use their abilities more. They are way too slow and stupid about standing in direct fire.
Let them clamber!!! I have noticed they only like to take direct pathways most of the time which makes me die if I’m down.
If commanded to move to an area, they will move there and clear all targets then hold position.
Make them obey commands with extreme prejudice AKA placing 100% priority on a command and for them to work together on it.
Make them automatically prioritize all targets in close proximity to a downed player who is calling for help so that they don’t get murdered.
Be smart enough to FLANK Jackals >__<
Add a few more commands. D-pad:
UP - What it already does.
LEFT - Sweep and clear. (they will do their own thing) This would also be used to cancel all previous orders to focus fire, follow, or hold.
RIGHT - Covering fire. The AI will follow the player (if not told to hold position first) and place absolute priority on only the enemies attacking the player.
DOWN - What it already does.
Grenade swap could be put on the VIEW button as it does nothing in campaign or could be swapped with DOWN and have the Artemis put on VIEW.
It would also be nice to have some Republic Commando features such as commanding AI to activate consoles and being able to tell Linda to get in position to snipe. For example, remember the first mission as Blue Team and all the vantage points to snipe? There would be a marker on some of these points that would allow the player to command Linda to take up sniping position.
As is the AI are fairly pointless. They seem like Normal or Easy difficulty AI which makes them seem nearly non existent in Heroic or Legendary. I don’t want the AI to do my job for me but I do want them to feel like a team of Spartans because quite frankly the Marines in Warzones are much more deadly XD They should only work to divert enemy fire or take shields down when they are not ordered to focus fire. This would however take some of the pressure off the player and make it feel like the AI are truly working as a team to help you. They should only kill small enemies like grunts and jackals unless ordered to attack in which they should work to take down that enemy.
343 told us that the team is our weapon but unfortunately, right now they are not. I LOVE the idea of having a team but if they are gonna drive home with this feature they MUST make it a core feature rather than basic AI you can boss around just to add effect. The harder difficulties would still be plenty difficult if the AI were better. If they were to utilize my ideas it would still be up to the player to COMMAND the AI to attack. If they player doesn’t want help they don’t need to call for it and can simply tell the AI to hold position or do their own thing while you take care of business.
Right now they actually RUIN the immersion. My dad was watching me play and asked why they were so useless even though they are these super powered Spartan commandos and I had to explain to him how AI work and how they dumbed them down. It was embarrassing quite frankly because I wanted him to see how badass they were
The only thing that gets on my nerves about the ai is having to be revived. They usually go the longest way possible and I die before they get to me, or im slightly elevated and they stare at me as i bleed out.

Those marines are brutal, it seems like they do far more damage than regular player
Yesterday I ordered them to get in a warthog. Without me moving or ordering them, they nearly ran me over to drive up a rock just to get stuck.
Or when giving Buck the Spartan Laser to shoot at a Knight “I’m a little busy here!” Turns out he was standing right behind me looking at the sky.
And when going for the Hunters achievement I order them to come down and attack the enemies in the next room. Nope they’re still up there “I’m busy with a Hunter!” Why the hell are you still up there in the first place?

Ran into this prob ALOT myself on my 1st legendary run through. Wasn’t till after I beat the game that I found out you could order them around. Best thing I found was to order them to stay back while you charge in and take out the easier enemies 1st. Then order them to focus in one target at a time and provide support for them by hanging back at a distance. Reviving them when needed. However… Levels with heavy enemy concentrations I go I,d it best to order them to take a significant lead in front. Let them draw enemy fire and work your way to them with much less enemy resistance. Takes some getting used to but its effective. Overall… Its best to just play as though you are alone (like in previous halo games) I try not to rely on AI too much because most the time they just get in the way anyways
