My son and I have been enjoying playing Spartan Ops together with others. However, we’ve begun to notice that often when we start a new game in on-line matchmaking, some players will move their Spartan to a safe location, and then simply not play.
It becomes clear that what they are doing is letting us do all the work while they get thousands of XP for nothing at the end of the round.
They can’t be booted; they can’t even be killed due to invulnerability.
It really takes a lot of the enjoyment of Spartan Ops away when you start a match and 3 players just sit there doing nothing. I haven’t seen this in the “Known Issues” threads; does anyone know if 343 Studios is aware of this and plans a way to remove these players or otherwise deal with them?
It happens to me almost every match, forget about it, you will get all the kills which help out your commendations and still get the extra xp from playing SP ops online. Unfortunately I don’t think there is anything you could do.
Totally agree this is ruining the ‘Find a Game’ feature. (Along with people purposely running you over with a vehicle).
Hopefully, if they AFK multiple times, 343 will reset their ranks. That would stop it pretty quick I’m sure and wouldn’t be too hard to program in I would think.
In the meantime just avoid them after for unsporting conduct, (or quit early on and find another game?)
I thought you received significantly less exp if you did not receive any kills. Maybe I just experienced a bug during the first week of Spartan Ops. It kinda sucked receiving around 500 exp when I had around 100 wheelman medals. Now I make sure to get at least one kill when I decide to be a driver.
All these “idle games” that they play are probably being logged, and the banhammer will get round to them eventually. Then they’ll come here and claim it wasn’t them, but their little brother/cousin/dog or whatever.
I failed my first Spartan Ops chapter this week because of it.
Two teammates got a few kills then went AFK in a safe spot for the rest of the game. My last teammate was just a very poor player and the generators all blew up, resulting in failure of the chapter.
Something must be done about this and people who are AFK should not be able to gain any XP.
Looks like 343 didn’t learn from Reach’s firefight AFkers. Honestly, I don’t care I play Spartan Ops solo so I can level my commendations up faster and people who AFK in H4 for credits make me laugh since the amount of credits required to fully progress through the ENTIRE ranks is the same as going from Foreunner to Reclaimer in Reach. There’s a reason people are already SR130 or close to it and it’s only been out for a month or so now. I’ve never used double XP or even hit the credit cap and am SR88 myself.
Its not a problem. It gives me more kills. Ive had games where It was myself and one other due to afkers and DCs, got a ton of kills, kept both machines alive.
I admit, Ive had to drop the controller a few times over the last couple days to deal with a sick family member, but if 3 other folks cant finish the mission or let me catch back up in kills by the end of the match, thats not my problem.
