I always skip FFA, ranked (I love ranked but only when I’m not tired and have time to play a fair few games), zone challenges, ball challenges and team slayer challenges. Finally I have come close to using all of my skips and am now saving them for a rainy day when I really want the weekly (so far hasn’t happened).
Even if I did want it. Vehicles are easier to kill in Infinite than any past halo. Why would I want to add to that by painting an unarmed transport warthog bright white?
Complete strongholds match (not a fan, RNG based, but not too bad because I can play against bots)
Win a CTF match (bad RNG)
Save an allies life from far away in pvp (i just hate this one and can never do it intentionally)
Return your flag in pvp 0/10 (this is new and probably the worst one I’ve ever had, given the RNG of even playing CTF and that I have to allow the other team to pull my teams flag 10 times and return it each time)
Save an allies life from far away in pvp 0/3 (ahh yess, good, more…)
Kill enemy Spartans by sticking them with a spike or plasma grenade in pvp 0/5 (also new and given how bad desync is, I’m not excited for this one)
It’s sad how the new bp and updated weekly rewards are reminding us of how much we hate the challenge system. I’d forgot about it after completing the pass and events in S1. In a way it’s funny how infinite is actually more fun when there is nothing to earn/work towards vs having a fresh bp and better weekly rewards but we have to abide by this system.
The fundamental lack of sense a person must have to even conceive the idea for a system like this and think it’s a good idea is just
Mine actually aren’t that bad this week. A few playlist specific ones I’d rather not do (Fiesta, FFA) The only one I’m 100% going to skip is save an ally from far away.
If they had a gametype composer similar to MCC, it would make a lot more of these challenges bearable. If I see anything for Strongholds, Oddball, or CTF that’s an immediate swap. I am pretty sure that’s how a majority of players handle these challenges, and 343 can probably see the telemetrics. I don’t see why they don’t just remove them until it’s easier to get gametype specific modes.
Just try to get vampire ball or FFA oddball. Tons of opportunities for carrier kills. But this is just another example of why broader challenges should be implemented. They could have just said, “Kill enemy spartans carrying objectives”. This would’ve been achievable in Oddball, CTF, Stockpile, Assault and maybe even Extraction since it has some new tool.
The whole challenge system is toxic. I did every challenge in S1 and it was like a chore and I wasn’t happy about it. If you really enjoy grinding out the game by all means but when I rid myself of the burden of challenges I realized how manipulative they were and how much fun I had playing and grinding out other games. I realized that stupid weekly unlocks don’t mean anything. Put your time and effort into something you’ll be proud of. If it’s this game so be it but I hope people don’t settle and settle for a game that continues to fall short.
I would say this week’s selection of challenges is a little better (for me at least). I’ve seen more challenges that can be completed in bot matches, which is very nice. That being said, is still strongly dislike the challenge system as a whole. It would be better if all (or at least most) of the challenge could be completed:
In bot matches versus marine level bots (or even recruit level bots)
relying less on kills with specific types of weapons (God I hate the challenge where you have to get three kills with the pulse carbine, good luck with that) (Actually, just get rid of all weapon specific kill challenges)
also relying less on other types of kills, such as double kills (again 343, please get rid of these types of challenges, or at least greatly reduce them).
I’d be okay with having challenges that required getting X amount of assists, kills, play X amount of matches, cumulative score, etc.
Im skipping all and doing 6 bot matches a day to level up the pass, if I get some done along the way, great, if not, no biggie, I’ll be done before the season is over anyways. Besides, I have other games on my mind currently.
