This is the first Halo since CE itself that I’ve felt the AR is a relevant and capable weapon. I’m actually surprised and glad to be when I get in close enough to a player with a BR or a DMR in hand and their AR kills me. It’s much more beastly than it ever was in 3 or Reach, and rightfully so- with such a limited range it /should/ be able to conquer players within that range, and from my /personal/ experiences thus far it has been.
I for one am, I love that weapon especially with the -Yoink!- prime skin for it. They made the thing a beast,
I liked it in halo 3 it jut felt like something was missing…
I don’t, the bloom is just visual and you pretty much can’t get a kill beyond short range unless it’s against another automatic. At which point it becomes a spray and pray weapon.
I believe Reach did it best, where the bloom rate made a difference and encouraged burst fire. Capable of getting kills at mid-range and with patience, capable of long range kills as well.
At the moment, all automatics are solely close range niche weapons with no variations.
^ I have to admit, I haven’t played with the AR a whole whole lot myself, including burstfire practices, so I cannot comment on it other than that I agree it was satisfying to use burstfire and succeed in Reach.
Still, based on power within its niche alone, it’s much more satisfying than in the previous two games, at least to me.
I’ve seen alot of people playing with the AR so I tried it, it is FANTASTIC and definitely a good rival for the DMR and BR. Of course at longer ranges you are kinda screwed…
Yeah, I’m happy that it finally eat Spartans for breakfest… and lunch… ah what the heck, dinner too. So many times in Halo 4, I’ve used this for defensive purposes, and many have failed to get past the fury of an angry, grumpy, vengeful Assault Rifle which hasn’t been in action since CE.
However, for the AR, I am glad it’s actually useful in this game, and glad they brought back the burst fire mechanic (wasn’t in one of the older builds).
