Last Spartan Standing we finally got something a little more special. A new gametype for the franchise, a new map, and a cutscene story thing. Not here to debate if you liked it or not, we are talking the effort put in which was fairly high.
I’m hoping this level of effort goes into future events because aside from the cosmetic tie-ins Tenrai was super weak. What’s Fiesta got to do with Samurais or Japanese culture?
I’m hoping the events are tied in a little better in future, at Halloween we need some spooky changes to the maps, decorations up, Infection as the game mode. Team Infection modes too, don’t just have an FFA option. Have some ghostly effects and stuff, could have some event pass stuff and some store stuff. Bots in Bot Bootcamp wearing only Halloween/spooky gear.
At Christmas let’s get some snow, some lights, a tree, the game mode themed around plasma grenades, snowball fight? Let’s make it an actual event and not just a playlist. The Christmas one this year didn’t even have a special playlist. There was nothing going on really. Just play once per day (advent calendar). Just seemed a bit weak. I know they have bigger fish to fry bit I think having strong events would be a great way to bring players in during those events.

Yeah I agree actually, if events are going to be the big thing to help fill out the 6 month season then those events could benefit from being a little more innovative and thematic.

Honestly, the last thing I want is seasonal event FOMO in Halo. I’d rather play other games that do seasonal events well. I can think of at least two that have earned my loyalty in this respect.
I do agree with you about Tenrai. It was very odd to see last year, and actually the combination of that event at launch and S1 battle pass put me off trying the game beyond the tutorial, it felt so eager to get you hooked into daily play.
I liked the thematic commitment and the level of effort and production quality. I didn’t at all appreciate how heavily the event mandated playing LSS, as I didn’t/don’t have much use for that gametype at all. To be fair, forcing playlist-specific play has been a commonality among most events to date, I just hope that 343i abandons this at some point.
But 100%, it’s nice to see an event carry more significance and have more narrative oomph. And the event pass was pretty great, too, which is a trend that I hope continues.

I don’t mind being ushered into a specific playlist if it is heavily centered around the the theme.
They could have appealed LSS to more players if they had a duos option.

Current “Events” are more like “Fomo generators”

FOMO crowd tryna cancel every droplet of timed fun activities.
You don’t have to play every event, unlock every item, it’s okay.
People can use a nameplate from 2021 if they want. You can wear something else cool. There’s lots of stuff.

No argument can support FOMO as being a good thing, so idk why you keep trying to. FOMO need not have to be if the goal was to ultimately draw more players into playing the game. In fact, FOMO when done how 343 does it drives players away from the product.
The way they have done this Event is also exceptionally bad for another reason: They have tied player narrative to it. While this is not important for most players, this automatically alienates those that care heavily about role playing and narratives.
The Event being tied to the Season 2 MP Narrative is horrible because if they have missed the last 2 weeks of the Event, they don’t actually get to unlock the 10 tiers, and they don’t actually get to see the outro cinematic (aside from youtube).
This means they have effectively made a story experience TIME GATED, no matter how bad the experience is. Imagine that. Imagine if Spartan Ops for Halo 4 (since it’s the closest comparison) was only up for like 2 weeks to play per episode.

FOMO may be a “disorder” on the part of the one experiencing it but the one who implements FOMO is the one perpetuating the symptom and preying on those who does have a disorder.
Also wtf is this about “cancel all the fun”
LSS isn’t fun, which is why people dread it and don’t want to play it. In fact, people will come to hate something if forced to do it over and over, which is already well past FOMO and more on the level of “Why can’t 343 make any experience fun anymore”
And people aren’t even rewarded for finishing the Event pass early, because their 2nd week of the Event is clogged by Event challenges which mean nothing to them and just stands in their way of achieving the Ultimate Weekly. And all that wouldn’t even be that bad if these Event Challenges didn’t force them to go back to LSS after a week of playing it.
Why do you think people want Event Challenges to stay out of the regular Challenge lineup? Or are you so “Pro-343” to the point you rather have everyone have a bad time to prove your point.

I think limited time, special events in games are very fun. It’s different and makes those weeks I do play the game much more fun and interesting. I love it in Overwatch even though it means missing out on certain skins, game modes and stuff.
Yes but this is not the case with Infinite’s limited time content.
Other games :
- Do X, but in whatever mission type, game mode type you like
- When you are supposed to grind a mode, you have ample chance to do so without affecting your main progress
Infinite :
- Let’s stack it all together, staggering it to force players to play X mode 100 times
- Let’s also make sure they have do play X mode in the way we dictate, which may or may not occur until 200 plus tried because 5 backsmacks in a free for all game is totally legit.

I also think the challenge system sucks, yes. I made a whole topic about how I would like to see it improve to make the game more enjoyable and less restrictive, while still getting players to have to explore various other playstyles without fully compromising their play sessions. I’ve got a bunch of suggestions around that, namely making the challenges more open, creative, about exploration and discovery than specific kills or modes.
I’m talking in this topic about the events themselves, and how I’d like to see them be more exciting. Although I think having time restricted modes and cosmetics, and getting players to interact with that mode for them is important
Just not in the way it’s currently being done.
I think I have an internet crush on you, stop making so much sense all the time!
Coming from Warzone(COD) there is a metric crap ton of things that you will miss, and it is ok and it makes those things more special for those who did get them and makes picking one up off the ground feel more unique. If you are getting FOMO from video game cosmetics, I am sorry but I have to ask is everything ok in your life right now? Is a Halo nameplate what you are really worried about missing?
If we can keep getting multiple story cutscenes as well as an associated featured PvP list, I think it’s a great improvement over S1 events.
Adding special PvE Academy missions on top of this for all future events would be awesome!

Agreed, especially where it concerns Fractures: Tenrai. They missed the mark big-time on that event.
I think the events need to be more dynamic as a first step.
We have an entire playable space in the training area that can be utilized for events, totally unused. With the entire cutscene taking place in the training HUB, they could have easily set up a more dynamic single player situation, that led into the cutscene. This would allow for a narrative reason to change the look of the MP backdrop, and give players a reason to actually use the training area more, even if it’s just for seasonal narrative content. It could be as simple as a mini game, where you take control of a MAC, or another orbital level defence system, to give the Phantom cover. Or we could use the courtyard to fend off Banshees, while the Phantom lands. There are a ton of ways to add a more interactive experience.

Oh, can you imagine if they did a cutscene for every event?! I would kill to see a cutscene based in one of the fractures. Especially the new entrenched one! seeing the world war two German-darth vader in a blur cutscene would be wild. even if it was only a minute or two, it would still be absolutely awesome and in my eyes at least would go a long way toward making these events something to really look forward to!

Personally disagree, I think that seasonal stuff like spooky things for halloween and christmas themed stuff is all pretty weak filler content. Just make Halo type stuff.

they offer nothing that’s ‘eventful’. it’s legit just ‘do the challenges’ which is all we have been doing because IT’S ALL WE CAN DO FOR ANY FORM OF PROGRESSION. it’s bottom of the barrel laziness. are the cosmetics cool? yeah, sure. but the events themselves are boring and at times i just have to force myself to complete them because they’re so lame.
