Am I the only one, or does anyone else find it annoying how every Big Team match basically turns into nothing but a snipe-fest with precision weapons?
I’m annoyed with Big Team, but not so much with the precision weapons. The reasons I no-longer play Big Team anymore is: Slayer Pro, Complex, and Settler. I just don’t think those three deserve to be in BTB.
You’re playing on large maps and then wondering why people are using long-range weapons? If you’re looking for some CQC action, you should play on small maps, like the ones in Team Slayer or Team Doubles.

I agree with you on complex and I’m on the fence with settler but I don’t see a problem with slayer pro. If anything IS should be taken out of BTB. It’s the worst and those games just turn into power weapons/sniping games.
Huh?
I have the feeling BTB is more about the vehicles than the actual utility weapons. Whole matches just revolve around disabling the enemies’ vehicles and protecting your owns!
(o_O)
Halo has always been about long-range engagements. Every favored utility weapon was also pretty effective at long, almost sniper ranges, and was used at them. A lot. And well, it’s Big Team. Many people, big maps, long ranges.
If you prefer a more close and personal approach, the already suggested Team Slayer and Doubles playlists should be more fun to you!

By the way, Settler is great, there is a lot of CQB on the hill. Vehicles don’t run rampant and power weapons are not that vastly overpowered here due to sheer concentration of players on the rather small map. It’s also one of the last few maps with a good strategical position (hill) rather than the usual camo-spawn-camping.
I’d like to see a BTB with nothing but Rockets. No other weapons - well maybe grenades. This is how we used to play way back in the day with CE on LAN. It was insanely fun. Sniper rifle is evil and I hate it in any game.
My only problem with BTB is it needs more maps. I get sick of playing on Settler all the time.

No, I’m not really wondering why. I know why people do it: there’s not much else to do. Before Halo 4, Big Team used to be heavily centered around vehicles, but for some reason 343 decided to change that. And it also seemed like BTB maps in previous games were designed in a way to inhibit sniping a bit. I remember actually being able to walk around on those maps. Now, I walk out of a building and get shot at from 4 different angles, haha.
And I agree that BTB could use some more maps.
I’m much better at vehicle combat than I am at 4sk BR, so I tend to like those maps more. I have no interest in Slayer Pro, as I cannot work on my few remaining Commendations. The sooner that they make it so I don’t get stuck with Pro, and you others don’t get stuck with IS, the happier I will be.
Working on the Boltshot Commendation has made me find ways to “play a big map small.” If Complex comes up, I will roam around inside the big building looking to pounce on people. If I do it right, I can take out someone who is going for rockets, and then take the rockets myself… Meltdown you can roam the caves, and maybe cover the Mantis and then pick up the FRG when it comes up.

I agree that previous games BTB maps were much, much better than H4. Except for Longbow, I actually really enjoy that map.
Anyway, the reason why you now walk out of a building and get shot from 4 different angles is because of Personal ordinance drop.
POD’s are a joke. Everyone has a damn power weapon after 3 min of gametime.

PODs?
EDIT:
Oh sorry Personal Ordinance Drop. Missed that.
Nevermind.
EDIT:
But see there are those of us who want nothing but power weapons. The Meta Raid/Action Sack kind of fills that need, but it isn’t BTB. All power BTB is what some of us want. We don’t care about skill based game play.

I understand that, but how is that balanced?
I mean, I can see having BTB Heavies come up every now and then. But with infinity slayer its basically the same thing.
I loved BTB in H2, h3, and even reach, but in H4 it just feels unbalanced and random.
Big Team SWAT, wtf?
And as if that weren’t bad enough but playing it on Ragnarok to boot!
As for BTB Heavies Halo 4 style, it reminded me of playing the modded maps in Halo CE for PC. Playlists like Heavy Weapon Only, or Your Mom Likes Heavy Weapons…
The maps were balanced and more or less symetrical while everyone started with a rocket launcher. Everyone loves blowing awaying the competition, then they wonder why they rage quit.
Go figure.
PS. There were other heavy weapon playlists with more cough entertaining names cough, which I cannot list here

Typically precision weapons are best for larger maps so yea, makes sense.
Trying to understand something - if soooo many people want BR starts and refuse to buy DLC maps - why don’t they just go back to Halo 3 where they will be happy?
I got stuck in Settler Big Team Slayer for the 10 millionth time, and I am going insane. Really? If you hate the things that make Halo 4 Halo 4 why are you here?

Don’t even get me started on Husky Raid. That’s the most unbalanced game type out there.
> Typically precision weapons are best for larger maps so yea, makes sense.
They’re the best because they’re the most convenient. When you have your choice of four different precision weapons just for loadouts, plus snipers from POD’s, doing something besides camping and sniping doesn’t seem very beneficial. Jumping in a vehicle really doesn’t seem beneficial because you get shot at instantly from everywhere on the map.

I’ve mostly been playing Halo 3 for the past few months. Its only when I came back to Halo 4 that I realized how bad its version of BTB was. And its getting harder and harder to play Halo 3, considering the population is dwindling.
Pretty sure BTB is annoying due to the constant black screening and being forced to hunt down and kill anywhere between 3-1 person. Specially on maps where there is a banshee.
Most commonly, people quit when I get them into a spawn trap with my banshee on CTF Longbow.

Settler and Complex are alright, IMO, however, with Settler…if only that ridge were not there, it would be perfect. Complex, is definitely a BTB map, however, the map itself is more suitable for Firefight, “IF ONLY” it were in the game,
Slayer Pro…thats one I hate, and that should remain only in Team Slayer.
