when i first publicized my map the bots were stupid and scared to go in areas that were cloistered and tight. I also believe as you play against the bots, that theres an intelligence that learns our player moves and battle hot spots on its own. i have came from my bots making random jumps in front of me, to them maneuvering the map and utilizing weapons in ways a random player might do. i even had them quickly chase me over obstacles to beat me down. None of this happened at this level even if i had the bots on spartan difficulty; i fresh publicized and they had great aim, but barely knew how to arm themselves for battle. Now months later the map layout understanding of the bots have increased.
My map is Clandestine. Yes it is dark, but it is about time we could create dark gunfight experience in this game. It’s a different feel, plus you can hit your HUD sensor and clearly see the layout highlighted in front of you. Anyway i can beat all 8 bots on spartan difficulty in FFA, but it has increased in challange since last time i played.
Let me know if anyone else has noticed your bot intelligence growing as your map has been published and played on more and more?
Yeah, for sure. I’ve noticed this in my map, over time the bots became smarter and started to use repulsor in places where you can repulsor people off to their death. They definitely didn’t do this in the beginning.
The bots do get smarter. If you played in the technical preview the bots got so smart they would tee bag players and even quit the game themselves sometimes because they learned that from the players.
Man I just think that is so incredible that 343 was able to make an infinite spanning intelligence.
So then help me understand this then gentlemen… I have published a BTB map under name Restricted, and something has blocked the Nav Mesh generation. I try to generate Nav Mesh and every single time it crashes or gives me error message. I have tried EVERYTHING in the book to blocking off the outside of the map, to messing with spawns and spawn volumes, and still got the same error message.
I’ve been told that it’s the canvas I used, that has issues with nav mesh generating on canvas floor, since it it rugged. I don’t know.
But to get some movement on my map, I manually put in Nav Mesh zones and points. Now I have “some” movement, not much and the bots never pick up weapons or make strategic jumps. Now do you think without the Auto Nav Mesh generation, can direct placement of the nav mesh zones and points be good enough to get the bots to start learning the map? Would playing games with the bots make them learn faster? Because I doubt I will get the auto generate to work
Honestly even im starting to believe as well the bots become less stupid overtime by testing and playing the map often. I did a test on halo 2 foundation map with the early build of infection i played like 5 times and eventually they started to be less scared in areas and start navigating. I notce this works make sure they are weapon pads or weapons on the map it give them more of a chance to move out in the map
Perhaps If I get people to play on my Clock Town map they’ll be able to learn it more
