Blood Gulch was a great map and many fans have fond memories of it in Halo 1 and 2’s remake of it, Coagulation. Halo 3 had the spiritual successor in Valhalla which was a great map in it’s own right but it was no Blood Gulch and there was a big outcry from fans to get the map in.
Clearly the reaction to the lack of the map was what motivated Bungie to have it integrated into Forge World in Halo: Reach. Unfortunately with the late integration of player created maps in match making and the low adoption rate of the dlc, Hemorrhage(Reach’s blood Gulch) was the map a huge percentage of fames took place on since it was one of the only good maps for a long stretch of Reach’s life.
While Blood Gulch is a fan favorite map, arguably the most popular map of the series I have to ask, does anyone actually care anymore if Blood Gulch is in 5? The map sort of wore out it’s welcome in Reach. Theres also just a general lack of enthusiasm in general. If you told me any of my favorite Halo maps were in 5 I wouldn’t have much of a reaction for you. After Reach and 4 I just don’t even know
I say it serves a purepose, plus its a mao that can be heavily altered to make lots of good maps. If anything a nice set of maos to go with it like forge world would be nice.
The map is generally well balanced if the weapons are picked well. And if DNR, NR etc. are olaced as map items it will solve the problem with extra cover as well to help.
I say why shouldnt a classic and good fan favourite map return. (Please no spiritual successor)
Hemorrhage was Big Team Battle’s saving grace in Reach. The only complaint against it was that it was overplayed, i.e. “this map is so much better than the rest, it’s all people vote for”. Either 343 bring it back, or they design some new maps which are similarly open and suited to vehicle combat.
Blood Gulch is perversely overrated. Coagulation was a much better map and I’d much rather see it in Halo 5 if we absolutely need yet another Blood Gulch-type map, which we really don’t.
That’s a perfect way to put it, although I’d say that the whole concept of a an open canyon with only a few bumps to block lines of sight is not a good concept. For the players on foot, it means staying at the edges of the map, hoping that you don’t get sniped. For the vehicles, all the map offers is free targets with little danger from anything else than other vehicles. There’s such a gap between the infantry and the vehicles that both might as well be playing separate games.
Long range power weapons absolutely dominate the map, and there is always a sniper on both bases who has to put zero effort in their positioning because they can see most of the map from their base. The only danger is the other sniper and the occasional player that manages to behind the sniper.
The design of the map in general doesn’t encourage players to move because the sight lines are such that there is little need to. The only element of control on the map is who has the most vehicles. There is nothing for the players to fight for because everything is at the bases. The only thing that’s somewhat significant for control is the rocket launcher in the middle.
The design produces no interesting gameplay because the only practical routes the players can use are on the sides, or using a vehicle to get through the middle. There is no place for the on-foot player in the middle (other than the rocket launcher). There is no choice for them other than to take the long route or grab a vehicle.
Valhalla was the least monotonous of the line of Blood Gulch designs because it actually made the map more compact and added options. There was a point for the players to try to control the middle, even without the Spartan Laser as there was barely enough cover to get out of sight of Warthogs. Even with the Laser that’s extremely powerful on open maps, there were obstructions for vehicles to hide behind.
We’ve had four variants of Blood Gulch by now. It’s time to let the map go.

I think it would be better if we get another spiritual successor for Halo 5.
> While Blood Gulch is a fan favorite map, arguably the most popular map of the series ,
While being one with the worst design and gameplay as well.
(Tsassi explained it pretty well why, so I don’t feel to go into detail too)
I think Blood Gulch and its variants only have become popular because people are able to easily rank up large amounts of kills with vehicles, hence have a good time, hence think the gameplay the map offers is good, hence think the map itself is a master pieces.
Ironically, what people actually enjoy of said maps are their significant flaws in their design.
In my opinion, let Blood Gulch die off together with Midship.
Afterall there is still Forge in case you feel to resurrect them for your own desire.
i use to love blood gulch and its variants but after big team battle in reach i’m over it and could use a break from it. if the you could play the dlc it might be different but your almost always playing blood gulch or heavies in that playlist.

that’s not the maps fault cause reach maps were trash

Proof plz
I doubt 343 has explicitly said anything about the order of remakes or map designs in general.

Is it though? That doesn’t add up, the fact is the only thing that truly dictates whether a map is good or not is the amount of people who like it (which in this case is much more than any other map), not some people on the internet telling us what distinguishes a good map from a bad map.
If players like the map, it is a good map… that’s the only way to describe it.
Ever looked past this stupid ‘map design’ talk by amateurs who know nothing of the industry and actually realised that sometimes a map is just… fun! Blood Gulch is one of those maps, no one can deny that it is a seriously fun map that everyone enjoys, I’ve had more fun on that map than any other Halo map, so at the end of the day who cares if ‘players are forced to the edges’ or something like that. It is a GREAT map.
Most people on these forums are really starting to annoy me with this know-it-all attitude. No offence.
Blood Gulch has essentially been in every title: Blood Gulch, Coagulation, Valhalla, Hemorrhage and Ragnarok.
You could argue it is a staple in the franchise. However a fair some of the community dislike the map, myself included. It is beyond tedious and doesn’t really offer game play we haven’t already seen 1000+ times over.
If we must see a large BTB map remade, I would much prefer it to not be Blood Gulch. I would much rather see a map like Waterworks or Breakneck return seen as they both offered interesting gameplay.

i’m with you man both were great maps. containment from halo 2 is another good one that i think would fit.
