Anybody Happy That MLG Halo Died?

Finally there will be fewer people using MLG settings as the axiom of what Halo ought to be. While the MLG playlist had never made it to over ~ 15% of the population, the persistent normative nagging about what is “skilled” and not “skilled” of their player base has been stifling the evolution of gameplay since the days of Halo 2. Every time a new game of Halo comes out, a mob of self righteously proclaimed competitive players has been haunting the forums complaining, ranting about every change the game takes. (Reddit notwithstanding, Reddit Loves Halo)

The fact reminds that, outside of the MLG(Halo) bubble, things are actually going very well, Halo is and has always been one of the most successful console titles. MLG Halo had never tapped into the vast majority of the BTB, vehicular loving, AR blasting player base. Instead, MLG Halo had only focused on creating it’s own ecosystem, which in time collapsed due to a lack of turn over to new players. If MLG Halo had actually cared to go beyond it’s elitist limitation and see that after all these years, the most populous playlist in Halo 3 is still BTB, perhaps it would have taken action to expend beyond the scope of it’s own self proclaimed “hardcoreness” and find success in reaching out to a way larger audience.

With that said, it is now way too late for any decisions to matter anymore for obvious reasons. RIP MLG (Halo), some people will inevitably miss you, but I will not.

oh look I’m going to be banned for 4 days cause someone thinks that was against any rules at all. Yet the person posting this forum is calling out a certain group of players and nothing happens to him. GF forum moderator.

Yeah, its doing absolutely splendid. 90K peak users max playing daily, and getting beat online by a download-only port of a 4 year old PC game.

LMFAO. Nice thread OP.

Considering what replaced it was the -Yoink!- Gaming…thing, not really. Look, I never gave two -Yoink- about MLG, it just wasn’t my thing. But it became a pretty big part of the Halo gaming scene and it’s exit from Halo at this point is a sign of how rigid Halo 4 is as a game to the point it can’t be played outside of a few certain ways.

Not all MLG players are self righteous or elitist’s. Don’t rattle the cage, you might just regret it.

This is the type of player that killed the Halo series.

This.

You are wrong, i was that player in Halo 3 that loved the competitive scene and the more relaxed fun gametypes such as big team and infection customs ect.
In my opinion the closer a game is to Halo 3 and the further away it is from Reach, the better the game.

Also, any person that actually played Halo 3 for longer than 5 minutes would tell you that Team Slayer and Social Slayer were the most popular gametypes, the population for Halo 3 in general was just generally higher and lasted the test of time far longer than what Halo 4 will.

Every gametype on Halo 3 was based around skill. Maybe infection to a lesser extent but it was fun to play, even the try hard 50s enjoyed it.

SWAT, Team Slayer Pro, Team Snipers and the MLG settings are the most fair and competitive gametypes in this game.

You are also incorrect about why MLG collapsed, it collapsed because the popularity dropped significantly with the release of Reach. Please stop making false claims.

You are incredibly ignorant to completely disregard a part of the community that helped Halos success, incredibly. I mean even more casual players in Halo 3 welcomed that part of the community.

How ignorant it is to say “well im glad halo has completely destroyed all of its roots and is now a game i can finally get a few kills on, im so glad 343 are only concerned with the Reach players and have completely disregarded all of the older players, yes even the casuals from Halo 3 who are much different from the casuals in Halo 4, they were actually a good part of the community”

Theres so much wrong in your post im surprised it wasnt edited by a moderator then again, all of the moderators love the new halo, heck i cant imagine one single moderator on these forums actually prefers older halo games.

Theres just so much wrong in your comment im surprised it wasnt edited, then again all the forum moderators who clearly didnt like halos prior to reach anyway probably agree with you

Relevant post regarding the attitude in this post and on the forums in general.

Does anyone think Removing a good chunk of the halo 4 fanbase by removing MLG or any other thing that people WANT TO PLAY (griffball. action sack. slayer pro.) is going to sell more halo?

NO its not.

It hurts so bad watching Halo go down the drain but if they keep chopping out all their different fanbase niches it happens. 343i NEEDS to expand not cut cut cut every thing.

I for one in a way am glad it’s gone but only because of the general player base it brought with it nothing irks me more than try hard wanna be MLG players tend be a bunch of -Yoinks!-.

Actual MLG players though are fine and nice people for the most part and i have nothing against them and would happily play with them  just don’t tend to like the people who follow them around.

Oh really? I had no idea.

Then again, I honestly couldn’t care less about MLG, -Yoink!- gaming or anything like that.

not a fan of MLG. too stripped down and dull.

to each their own of course.

This tread only is good for get a bann…

I love the people who equate a disagreement in opinion to a violation of forum rules.

You are the best.

Halo 4 is a poor competitive game to both play and watch so I am glad it’s off the MLG circuit, although COD taking its place is humorous since that COD requires even less skill but has far better numbers because more people enjoy watching/playing it.

Halo 4 tried to appeal to everyone but in the end didn’t resonate strongly with many. Tha’s often the case with a generic product and Halo 4 is as generic as FPS come.

Happy? No, and I’m a casual gamer. There’s an important history there and you can’t deny it, there’s a marketing benefit for both sides there. There should also be room for noob, casual, serious and pro alike.

Considering the marketing factor, one wonders where the new relationship with -Yoink!- Gaming will go, for now it must at least seem more beneficial to MS/343 to head in that direction, time will tell.

Just because a player is competetive doesn’t mean he’s mlg.

I enjoyed mlg soley because I enjoy competing having no urge to be mlgpro. I enjoy halo because it was always more competitive compared to other games. Segregating the so mlg community or as many just call it the ‘competitive’ group kills off a significant portion of the population.

Game needs to appeal to all and this game doesn’t as evident with huge population drop within 3 months from release.

H1-h3 did. 343i soldout. Halo was always a classic arena FPS which it’s simplicity made it amazing.

Halo needs to evolve in some ways but in a way that stays more true to what halo is. Not to mention it needs a dev that actually communicates with the community. Treyarch lead dev twitter compared to Frankie or any of 343i is ridiculous. He replies to everyone’s tweets and constantly talks to the community. 343i is like a ghost.

That just wins the internet. That’s the problem I see with MLG is they’ve created this whole system that spawned the idea that if you play competitive, you must be or have to be MLG for the most part. That’s an idea I never latched onto.

When I play competitively online I hope to have a good time and wish that my teammates will cooperate with me. Honestly, that is my earnest wish. Putting game mechanics aside, that would just make the online experience so much better.
