Anybody else massively disappointed?

Halo Wars is my favourite console game ever. I’ve played it probably 4 times as much as anything else I’ve ever played.

I’ve tried both the betas for Halo Wars 2 and just not enjoyed them at all. The sole reason I bought an Xbox One and not a Playstation was with the hope that Halo Wars 2 would someday be made. I’m genuinely glad to see people enjoying the Blitz mode and it’s a cool idea. It’s the game itself that I don’t like. It seems faster somehow, more cartoony and “silly”. Halo Wars one had a great pace to it where you could have a huge battle and micromanage things. I loved the way the leader powers worked, everything. I find this new one chaotic. I can’t tell who’s firing at who half the time, HW1 was great when you’d fire at something with a Scorpion and you’d see the shell fire and you’d know you’d hit something. Even the Hawks you could see exactly what was going on. This new one seems like it’s a load of lines and flashy stuff flying everywhere then at the end either your army wins or your opponent wins.

I guess I wanted Halo Wars 2 to be more of the same but I feel it’s been pushed forward by tinkering with everything, adding more stuff, changing the way the game works, adding energy etc. It’s just lost that thing that made Halo Wars great for me.

I could be the only person who feels gutted but I’m sure I’m not. It was a dark day on Saturday when I cancelled my preorder for a game I’ve waited years for.

Oh you’re not the only one, many people have been cancelling their preorders for terrible reasons… but man, dude I can understand, you’re not as directly attacking as averyone else.
I understand, the game is changing, and it’s not like the old games, but… its something new! Its something I welcomed because, you don’t know how annoyingly angry I was when I first saw the “Banished” covenant base. I flipped and I couldn’t stand the change, so I uninstalled it and went off to Halo 5 with my buddy. It wasn’t until I started to realize of the stuff me and him had in common in terms of new things, and what terrible launch Halo 5 had, but later, and yet sooner, I enjoyed it with him, and at this point I think Halo 5’s a nice game, and I knew that back then too. The thing is I started to realize that as new as Halo 5 was, It was a pleasant welcome in the competitive standpoint, because really? I never got to play Halo 3’s competitive standpoint, I started with Halo 4, than bought Reach, THAN bought 3, and dove into Halo 5 and I eventually came around. I noticed the change, and I realized that I liked Halo 5 because of that change that everyone liked back in the day… So I went to redownload Halo Wars 2, and I accepted the Brute design, and I looked at the units! They were so complementing and they made sense for some of them, considering the fact that this was the covenant… but no! No its not the covenant! This is the Banished, it was something new, something I’d never seen before, the Reavers, Blisterbacks, BEAUTIFUL design, new UNSC units, leader abilities that included giant lazers that I ignored and went for the buffs, and the dropships it was beautiful!
The game was flawed though, and I’m pretty sure we are keeping that weird exchange for an explosive death, but other than that, these are betas! The game hit gold a few weeks ago and that was plenty of time to work out the kinks, I mean do you remember how terrible the Blisterback’s missiles looked in the first beta? Yeah well they looked -Yoinking!- awesome in the Blitz and that’s my point! It’s a beta and they’re changing things and, maybe just maybe, if you accept the change, you’ll like it! Try out some of the abilities, the units, strategies, the STORY that everyone’s forgetting about! It might just change your mind!

Yeah look I hated the domination game mode from the first beta and the art style straight off the bat. I was pretty pissed off but they brought out a very limited version for the standard mode after that I didn’t like it at first but after a few games I enjoyed it. It took some getting use to with the cartoonish look but I’m still giving it the benifit of the doubt.

blitz is fun but I find in small doses. It’s too quick for my liking. So far all we’ve had a taste of is the beta, give the game a go on release if you don’t like it just return it.

Yeah see! Its no Halo, considering the fact that there’s still the formula, Covenant still has their special units, UNSC their powers, but now covenant do too! The game modes we were shown won’t be the only ones! There’ll be a whole library, but if you don’t like it, you can always return it, opinions are justified

I understand what you mean but I don’t agree. I mean, I personally am not a fan of Blitz but I didn’t play the “other” game modes in the first Halo Wars either. I do think you need to give it a chance, I thought the first Beta was pretty good and I have a feeling it was just a taste of what lies with in. Two resources to manage makes it more difficult and I am not a fan of the tech tree but we can adapt. It will be great, just give it a shot.

Clancy, were not forcing you, but were encouraging you, this forum is for that purpose right? The betas may be disappointing and they may represent the game, but was Peter Dinklage the Ghost in the Destiny Beta? Things change son! And we’ll have open arms if you change your mind! Cause Hell am I excited about that story man! You want me to send you the vidoc? Cause this is some of the best hype marketing I have seen from 343, cause it works! “We see these same Spartans who took down that pack of elites in Halo Wars 1, and all of them being taken out by one guy… who is this guy?”
“Legends of a brute that is not only physically powerful, but incredibly cunning and strategic, Atriox is something the Galaxy has never seen before.”
“If we lose, we leave the Galaxy in the hands of a monster!”
GODDAMNIT man! Am I excited!

The Blitz beta was surprisingly good. I didn’t expect it to be all that great, but I went in with an open mind and enjoyed it after all. People saying that it’s P2W and all that doesn’t concern me. I enjoyed it, so I don’t see any reason to be complaining quite yet.

Quite yet! Indeed! Because the game isn’t out yet! I know they’ll find some way to -Yoink- on anyone who thought it was pay to win, I mean I gotta say, leveling cards is pretty strange even for me, but wouldn’t that be a matchmaking filter than? I mean come on, you gotta have faith!
(Thank you, haha!)

Plus there is always the PVE Firefight in the full version in case you don’t want to go against other players and just fight some AI

Means - I give them my money and if I don`t like it then…?

Sorry but I understaand that he cancelled his pre-order - If I could, I would sell my digital deluxe limited whatalese Halo 5 Edition but too bad it`s digital…

Blitz its just a small part, the campaign looks incredible from the first 2 level and the “normal” multiplayer modes are still here but with new beautiful graphics etc…

you are “MASSIVELY DISAPPOINTED” cause they add a new mode? wtf man

I am going to play domination mode. It’s just like the first game only with more units and maps.

Thanks for the input guys

I think I’ll see how it is when it comes out, watch some online videos of people playing the different modes and see how I feel about it then. I’m really hoping that the campaign is great. I’d maybe buy it sometime down the line if that turns out to be awesome. A few of my friends have pre-ordered it so I’ll probably give it a go on their consoles on release and see how if it gets me more excited :). I just can’t justify the £64.99 on the game and season pack after seeing what I’ve seen. It could just end up being something that I don’t gel with but I am glad people are liking it

Well when you put that way, but I’d assume you could answer that question yourself, by the way there was a beta, and maybe when it comes out, there’ll be playthroughs! There are many ways to prove yourself wrong, be-e-lieve me!

You, you are a turn around man! You don’t have to I just wanted you to see if you could get back into it, because of the beta! But I’m glad to see you’re respectful on that front man, good on you! I only hope to see you at the launch

Nope. If I could, I would pay money to have Halo Wars 2 right now.

Tech tree is gone they moved it into the circle menu like the first game. You still have to purchase abilities but you can go straight to the one you want. The more powerful abilities cost more tho.

Actually I preordered the game after the betas. As three friends of mine we were really edges about it. But we finally got our preorders… Really happy how things are shaping up.

i preorded this game right after the first beta. me and my friends cant WAIT for the full game. when we get in a match together we dominate the game. no matter what game mode it is. i didnt mind the design change to the enemy units at all. why? because it isn’t covenant anymore, its the banished. it makes sense why all off the buildings and vehicles look mechanical and rugged, instead of smooth and elegant like the covenant. again why? because its Atriox’s army and is brute design not covenant. so i cant wait for this game to come out and i hope everyone else can enjoy it.

I’m actually the opposite to you, man. It looked underwhelming at first - I was just excited for the cutscenes - but having played both betas, I’m extraordinarily happy with what the final product is shaping up to be and excited to get to grips with it. A friend and I both pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition and we’re looking forward massively to the release.
