Any word on collision and outlines?

With no collison and forced outlines this has been a non Halo game to me since day 1. I have only been tolerating it hoping there will be a fix down the line but it doesn’t seem like the case or if they would even consider it in the first place. Collision needs to be in and forced outlines need a toggle option. If neither of these things come or there won’t be any news on them I’ll simply drop the game for good.

Yeah, hopefully the no-collision experiment is almost over.

The outline thing which nobody really likes that much could be more complicated. But I don’t know.

Yeah. People keep calling this gameplay simmalir to Halo 3 but until we get the basics done right then it doesn’t play like any Halo at all.

You’d really only be putting yourself at a big disadvantage disabling outlines for yourself only.

For disabling them for everyone is probably not going to happen either as that will impact sales on armor coatings. The best you could probably get in this regard is to allow outlines for teammates and squad mates only. This would still allow the options for customization while removing the outlines off enemies, making them easier to see.

You would just have to focus on people who aren’t outlined…

Collision is something people have been pretty vocal about. So I can see them changing that.

As for the outlines: I rarely hear that being mentioned and it does interfere with the cosmetics. So I’m with General_Fox on that one - it’s unlikely to happen.

I’m not blind. I can see just fine without the outlines. I came from dark maps in halo 5 in FFA with people wearing all black in the shadows and i can still see them just fine.

I guess I’m ganna have to drop Halo then. It’ll forever look like a child’s game with the outlines. Ruins the asthetic and makes the armour pointless as the outlines are all I focus on

But some people are visually impaired - so I suppose it’ll benefit them

Which is why it should be a toggle option. Not forced. Also no outlines should be the default across the board. People who want outlines should have to turn them on. Not the other way around

They have replied to the outline thing saying it’s more difficult than flicking a switch because the outline animation is directly linked to the shield animation.

Whether it is something they’re looking at, I don’t know but I too really hope so.

I don’t think a toggle for it is a good idea, like @General_Fox said above, anyone who switches it off will be disadvantaging themselves so very few will and the people that care about aesthetics most will switch it off and get spotted easier every time so will get frustrated and either quit, call for it to be forced off or cave in and switch them on.

Either

  • outlines on for teammates and off for enemy (and have it as an outline only, not the overwhelming shield colour effect)
  • off altogether and markers over teammates heads
  • if 3v3v3 returns, markers over all heads

As for collision, I want all collision on. The majority want the same. Nearly everyone wants at least enemy collision on.

The latter is already the case in training mode. Proof here…

So no doubt would almost be as easy as flicking a switch.

Well how do you tell whose the enemy since your custom colors, are now your colors always and not just in FFA

The enemy player collision is on. HOWEVER. It’s not the same as previous halos. Imagine a pole in the middle of the body. You will run into this “pole” but the rest of the body you phase through. I tried it out in customs and you do run into the other player. The faster you move. The more it glitches out. We then trying ramming into eachother as fast and as hard as possible and that’s when we fully phased through eachother.

All you need is a red name above the head and I’ll be able to tell. It won’t be a disadvantage. And let’s say teammate outlines stay then I would only have to look for players without outlines. It can be done and it should be an option

We don’t need an outline toggle. We need team colors so I stop shooting teammates and hesitating to shoot enemies. It’s one of the many reasons I don’t play games like Call of Duty.

I want team colors too but apparently that’s too much to ask for

Sad to say, but I don’t think outlines will be going anywhere soon or even through the whole game’s lifetime. Collision on the other hand doesn’t interfere with anything design and monetization related, plus it severely impacts the game negatively, so hopefully that will be adressed.

The video clearly shows in training, enemy player collision is fully on - full body and was very slowly. I believe this is also the case in customs but haven’t tested it.

Multiplayer is definitely off, a group of us deliberately tried matching each other one night on opposite teams. We were phasing exactly as teammates in the above video.

If it’s glitching in multiplayer then it was glitching extremely hard, we were doing it the whole game - no collision at all.

If it was some bizarre glitch (it was the first week), then the pole theory is still not as good as full collision and like I said, full collision is definitely on and working fine in training so it would be easy to do in MM. Which I believe is what you want so I was agreeing.

I’m also in agreement with you about the outlines, I gave 3 choices which were basically the same as your reply. My points were, they’ve said it’s not a quick fix because it’s tied in with shield and barely anyone would use the toggle because it would disadvantage them making all the work next to pointless so they should do one of the three options I gave.

Red and blue (or even players choice) would be great but it won’t happen - they make too much money from people who want to show their colours off on the field, which I know, makes zero sense with the current blinding shield/outline light show.

I hope they bring back collision. It’s really strange not having it

Thats a hilarious bad take but if that’s what you gotta do then that’s that man.

I just hope break out comes back with rvb as an option and that outlines can be disabled in options either one team or both

I agree. I couldn’t understand for the life of me why player outlines was a thing. Someone said it was because of the individual armor customizations and how we don’t have red v blue anymore. That doesn’t cut it for me tho cuz they could easily add outlines for friendlies and just leave enemies without. You’re no longer scanning for enemy movement just looking for a glowy outline. And to make it worse, you can customize the color to your own preference further exploiting the ease of seeing people. No more hiding behind a tree or a small piece of cover anymore.
This also compliments the active camo because it not only removes the outline, but it removes you from radar and makes you almost completely invisible to the eye.
