I was just wondering if anyone had watched the first two episodes and had any thoughts. So far it just seems like a miniseries about a bunch of whiney, unhappy teenagers. Is this a military academy for problem kids?
I like it.
Hmm overall I think Forward unto Dawn is a great little series. If that’s what it’s classified as. The most exciting parts for me happen to be the intros with cortana speaking with glimpses of the Master Chief. That may be because they are already deep in my heart as amazing characters. The series isn’t too long so we can’t truly attach ourselves (myself) to these new characters like Lasky and the others but I’m very much liking Forward unto Dawn. I’ll definitely connect with Lasky more though with Halo 4. I’m sure he’ll be an iconic side character like Lord Hood or Miranda was me.

they picked them of that age and that stature to show the chief towering over them. that said next episode the covenant is going to hit Corbulo academy, things are gong to get more interesting

Just one conflicted individual.
I thought it was pretty interesting. He’s obviously living under the shadow of his ODST brother’s accomplishments. Also conflicted with the entire conflict between the UNSC and the Innies. A bit cliche maybe, but it has my attention and I look forward to the rest of the series.
In a way, I think it reflects reality. Cadets in the armed forces around the world are bound to go through similar experiences.

Why do people automatically think teenagers+issues with life=whiny brats? But adults+issues with life=drama?
Anyway, I really enjoy it. It’s better than I thought it was going to be, and I already had some fairly good expectations.
> Why do people automatically think teenagers+issues with life=whiny brats? But adults+issues with life=drama?
Because people are accustomed to thinking of teenagers as existing solely in the happy microcosm of high school. Everything within that microcosm is deemed trivial by default and only deeply tragic events are seen to spill into the “real world”. In essence people don’t actually think of teenagers as people, just non-persons who don’t know how good they have it.
But enough of my pop. psychology…
I’m pleased with Forward Unto Dawn so far. The acting and effects are solid (other than their Kevlar vests looking a little out of place). However I’m mostly reserving judgement at this point, there’s still only two episodes out.
> Why do people automatically think teenagers+issues with life=whiny brats?
Because as you get older (I’m 57) you grow to realize that the problems teenagers typically see as big deals tend to be pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things. My three kids are all grown now, but some of the things they thought were hugely important as teenagers were just amazing to me as an adult.
> But adults+issues with life=drama?
A lot of teenage issues are drama and a lot of adults are whiny.
The first episode was 'aight, but the second was better. No reason to think it won’t continue along that projection. You can see how they’re trying to imitate Battlestar Galactica at times, which isn’t exactly a bad thing. My only caveat is the teenager angle, but I suppose it reaches to Halo’s broadest audience, so my old man musings will have to mind their own business.
I wish they would have spent more time showing us why the Innies are the bad guys instead of just telling us they are. This is an important piece of the Halo fiction that I feel could have benefited from at least one or two live action scenes.

What military academy doesn’t have whiney, unhappy teenagers?

No one has watched it, that is why there is thread about it a few posts down from your thread
I really like it. Can’t wait for Friday. New episode of FUD that includes the covenant and possibly Spartans AND The walking dead series 3? Fo’ shizzle.
I also really like the main character. He’s obviously the typical “Lover not a fighter” type person brought up in a world of fighters. He’s growing up in the shadow of his ODST brother and Colonel mother and to make it worse, he see’s the innies for what they are. Real people. I can relate to him considering my views regarding current wars etc are similiar (Though I won’t get into that. No politics on here).
Can’t wait to see the covies and spartans either. I wonder how the covies will be portrayed. Just CGI?

I scanned four pages of threads for one about this before starting one and didn’t see any.
My only problem is how silly they look in their combat gear, specifically the Kelvar vest they got on, for some reason. Yet, strangely enough, they look less ridiculous than the actual Marines in Halo 4. Other than that, I like it a lot.
The only one who seemed “whiny” was Lasky, and it’s kind of justified. His brother was killed by the Insurrection.
Anyway, I love the series so far, and I cannot wait for this Friday.

The majority of the Innie sects are terrorists. They plant bombs in public places just for the sake of killing one or two Marines, even if it means killing dozens of innocent civilians in the process. They also destroyed a luxury cruise linear over Reach, and I highly doubt that it was a military target.

Many are, but there are others who do not attack innocent civilians. In the Innie’s defense, the UNSC did nuke a planet to put down a minor insurrection.
from what I’ve seen, Forward Unto Dawn is AWESOME. I think 343i did an AMAZING job and maybe they’ll finally consider a Halo movie if they get enough positive feedback…

I don’t think he has actually died yet. Has he?

That may be true, but there’s no way you can justify blowing up a diner filled with civilians, taking your own daughter as a hostage while you prime a grenade or nuking 10 million innocent people.
