Any must-have Halo books?

I’m getting my pay soon, figured I might as well pick up some of the Halo books while I’m at it.
Right now I’m planning on getting the Fall of Reach as it was the first (and only) Halo book I’ve read, but I know that many of the other classics are praised as masterpieces.

So in short, which other books are worth getting? Contact Harvest? The Cole Protocol? Kilo-Five Trilogy (unsure if that one is a classic)? Ghosts of Onyx? First Strike?

I appreciate any tips, recommendations etc.

fall of reach documents john’s story before CE and Reach it was my first halo book and I really suggest getting it
Halo The Encyclopedia gives more info into things the game doesn’t and it covers things before Halo 4 (wether theres an edition that does cover it I have no clue)

Halo: Ghost of Onyx
Halo: Cole protocol
Halo: Contact harvest
And All, but Primordial, of the Forerunner books which are Crpytum, Primordial and Silentium. Primordial is really really damn boring, the ending is the only part worth reading.
Those are my recommendations.

A book to completely 100% avoid, Halo: The flood. I stand by my opinion when I say this is the -Yoink!- halo book I’ve ever read, and I will never read it again.

Thank you! Corvo, any thoughts on First Strike?

Any thoughts on which would be the first book to start with if you’d never read any of them?

It says right in the OP that I’ve read Fall of Reach (which I loved).

What was wrong with Halo:The Flood?

Contact Harvest explains how the whole war began with the covenant and humans.

Ghost of Onyx delves into the Spartan III Program

The Cole Protocol explains what Captain Keys and The Arbiter were doing before their roles in the game.

The Kilo-Five trilogy occurs after the events of Halo 3 and involves the Sword of Sanghelios and what remains of the covenant. Also a ONI plot to destabilize the Sangheili so they can’t rise up and fight them once again. Also Halsey is in it at some point.

First Strike explains the events that occurred after Installation 04 was destroyed by the Master Chief.

Fall of reach, first strike, and ghosts of onyx.

Thanks guys!

I think it’s the book I’m thinking off. If it is, it was like a retelling of Halo Combat evolved. I just hated it, the way chief acted and the inconsistency. And some of the downright stupid plots in the book. It just left a bitter taste in my mouth. It has been a year or so since I read it, and I won’t read it again.

Fistfull of Arrows

Get them all. Read them all. All of them are well worth the read.

It’s already been said, but Fall of Reach is a must have.

I just remembered, halo has a set of graphic novels called Halo Evolutions I really suggest the Mona Lisa

alternatively these were redesigned as movies so if you don’t wanna read it you can watch them

Hmm, well now I’ll steer clear of reading it since I could just do Combat Evolved again and know what the book will involve.

I personally really liked “The Flood” If I remember right, (it’s been probably 12 years since I’ve read it) it went into a lot of detail about the things that happened and even though it’s during the events of CE, it gives details into what was happening with Captain Keyes with the flood and how they work.
