This is a lot longer than intended but it is quite a long and specific story. Long story short, I have been unable to get Recon for a number of reasons and have been deeply invested in Halo. Primarily, my personal character I created for Halo 3. I have missed every opportunity to get it though and want it desperately.
So,I have been a massive fan of Halo since 2006. Halo’s my favorite franchise above any other franchise, and one of my favorite overall interests. However, my lack of money and my parents, being very leary and negative toward gaming (both due to tales of obbessive playing from friends and their unfamiliarity with how safe online gaming is), I was without an Xbox 360 and was only able to play Halo 2 through 4 during release by visiting friends’ houses. It sucked not being able to participate in my favorite interest because of my parents’ fear and unfamiliarity. I don’t resent them for it or anything, nor should anyone, it just sucked.
However, that didn’t stop me from loving and enjoying Halo. I bought and read tons of books, watched hundreds of YouTube videos, played with all of my friends whenever I had the chance, and, most prominently, collected the McFarlane action figure line. I even wrote my own story with my own Spartans, built my own props, and created my ideal Spartan permutation without ever having my own account to do so with. I studied the armors and created my own Spartan. The last one is due to my love of art and storywriting. I remember spending hours trying to configure the percect permutation, and finally did. It’s a white and blue Halo 3 Spartan with an EVA chest, Hayabusa shoulders, and the Recon helmet. It’s still my favorite character design today. I even customized the action figure version of it to bring my character to life. Favorite weapons and all. However, I always wanted to see my Spartan brought to virtual life in my favorite multiplayer game of all time, and dreamed of the day I’d have my own 360, revved up Halo 3, and earned each piece of armor.
Finally, on Christmas 2012, when they finally caved into mine and my brother’s battle for it, my parents hunted down and bought my brother and I the Halo 4 edition Xbox 360. That made up for their forbidding me from owning a 360 quite a bit. I put Halo 3 and played the crap out of it, finally catching up with the story, even though I’d stumbled upon dozens of spoilers from being active on the internet. My parents still didn’t allowed us to have Xbox Live though for the same reasons.
I still hadn’t played Spartan Ops and went to my buddy’s to do so. He had an extra 3 month susbscription to XBL, and gave it to me. I thought “I’m sick of the limitations my parents put on me and I’m freakin 18 already.” So I finally make my own 360 account. Eventually my parents gave up after us pestering them and us continuing to buy Live subscriptions, and we have been online for a good 2 or 3 years.
So I finally played Halo 3 online with my own account! Though it wasn’t as good as when the servers were super populated, it was still awesome. I began collecting armor and had everything but the Recon helmet. I then learned the crappy reason why I would never have it and bring my favorite character to life.
I didn’t have a 360 for Bungie to award me with it for doing or making an outstanding feat or creation. And I got the 360 after Bungie seperated itself from Halo. And I got it after 343 gave it out for free. I was hoping for the MCC to fufill this dream, but was disappointed to find that only the full sets of armor are available to play as. I’ve wanted to see and play as this Spartan so badly, that I have scoured the web trying to find someone who uses the same loadout, but not even any luck there. So, I don’t think there is anyway to get it, play as it, or see it, and this is my last ditch effort.
It may seem silly to get so upset and be so admant about getting a virtual set of armor, but Halo has been my passion and favorite franchise, inspired much creativity and hobbies, and has contributed in me deciding that I want to create video games and movies as a career and am pursuing that today. Halo, and the ability to create in Halo has contibuted to who I am and what I want to do. I am deeply invested in the character and design and have been dreaming of seeing him in his source for years.
So, please if there is anything I can do, please let me know, though that doesn’t seem to be the case. And, last hope, please 343, help a Halo fan with strict parents’ dream come true.
