as title - basically I’ve finished the game on heroic, which was a challenge, and now I want to do it again on solo legendary (for the MK VI armour in multiplayer), and I would appreciate any general tips and so on to help me
I’ve already managed to get through mission 1 solo legendary, but obviously mission 2 and so on is going get tougher!
A quick note on spoilers - please avoid them if you can for people who haven’t completed the game but who are interested in this thread, but if they are unavoidable please make it absolutely clear you’re about to post a spoiler.
I also played on heroic but with a friend and finished the first level on legendary by myself and fighting covenant on legendary seems to be a breeze using the noob combo. My question is, what weapon works best against prometheans, especially the Knights?
Having finished the game solo on Legendary, I can safely say that the Covenant are NOTHING compared to the Prometheans. The Prometheans are frustrating damage sponges that love to teleport and camp. They have access to one-shot-kill weaponry and can resurrect and spawn new enemies. You probably won’t need to worry about the Covenant anymore.
Some tips:
Noob combo works against Covenant, but against Prometheans it’s more ineffective.
Needler is your best friend for dealing with Knights and Elites. However, ammo is scarce and you may need several supercombines to kill off Knights.
Deal with Watchers first of all. They will resurrect dead Knights and Crawlers if you leave them to themselves.
Engage Knights from afar (by which I mean hide behind a piece of cover and snipe them with the Lightrifle). Their Scattershots are powerful enough to kill from 10 meters off, and their melees when coupled with teleportation is incredibly annoying. Only close in to melee range when there’s only one Knight left - otherwise, the other will attack you from behind.
Use Hardlight Shields whenever possible. They allow you to move from cover to cover, deflect almost all gunfire, and can be used to survive Pulse Grenade explosions in order to avoid moving out from cover.
Best weapon combination: mid-range weapon (Lightrifle, DMR, BR, Covenant Carbine) coupled with some kind of power weapon OR an automatic. Mid-range weapons are incredibly versatile because they can eliminate Crawlers with headshots, take out Watchers from afar, and can be used to snipe Knights. The power weapons are to deal with Knights. If no power weapons are available, use an Automatic to lower their shields and then go for a headshot (shoot them when they expose their skull).

Im halfway though mission 6 and didnt realise that needler was good vs knights, tried it and melted my way through my checkpoint! Thanks!
Be patient, take up to one knight on at a time, and remembet to conserve ammo even if that means you take a bit more damage. Oh, just as a sidenote, the power weapons I found particularly useful were the incinerator cannon and scatter shot.
Like previously stated, the Promethians make a mockery of the Covenant on Legendary.
The main thing to do, solo or co-op is prioritize cover and Watchers. The Watchers are the undisputed troll of this game; resurrecting knights and spawning more and more Crawlers while shielding and tossing back grenades. Kill them quickly. Hardlight shield is awesome during these situations, camo is pretty useless against against them as is the auto sentry. Drop those immediately.
Always have a rifle of some sort, as already stated, LR, DMR, BR and Carbine. To me the best way to clear these guys, especially knights of the higher levels is the use their own weapons against them. LR, to me, seems to be much, much more effective against them that the other guns. My preferred knight combo is Suppressor for shields and then scoped LR to finish. The hardlight rounds seem to eat them away far faster than AR or Storm.
Another easy way to get them down is using their own grenades against them. More often that not they will (with no Watcher cover) stand in the AOE for the grenade and port out before the explosion but still having no “shield” or whatever pops when they get low, usually porting in within your line of sight for a few quick shots.
Scattershot is to be used one on one only, and against the Knights who don’t have one themselves. You can always go for an assassination if you’re feeling courageous, I managed to assassinate the final three Knights during the Requiem mission (including the one with the Binary Rifle). That mission is the easiest when it comes to the Promethians because the Covenant are brilliant distractions and bullet shields for you.
Easily the most important piece of information, be patient and cautious. If you see two Knights or Zealot elites or any power enemy, easy your way into the encounter. Guns blazing results in lost time and more frustration on your part. Keep calm and save the galaxy man.
