I really want to have fun with halo 5. If I actually got fair games, maybe I would. I’m not the best halo player, and I’m not the worst (so average I guess). If the game matched me with other average players, it might actually be fun. How it is right now though, this “ranking system” that the game has is absolutely useless because it doesn’t match you by skill. It’s happened twice already that my whole team quit at the same time. I was left alone in a 1 v 4. What am I going to do, stay and get killed 25 times? No, I will not. If the people in the match were all of similar skill, this wouldn’t happen. I try to never quit because I actually value the competitive side of halo. Clearly, a lot of people don’t, though.
I really cannot begin to understand why 343 said they were “going back to halo’s roots”. If they had said “the game’s going to change a lot” people would have known what to expect, but saying they’re going back to the roots? And the game has ground pound, clamber, etc.? Why? If I was the marketing director, I would definitely not adopt a strategy of “give the fans high hopes so they can be terribly disappointed at the game’s reveal”.
I really hope 343 can figure out a way to make this game fun for everyone. I really do. I know they’re a good company so I have hope in them. Sorry if this seemed like a rant, but I guess I’m just letting off steam.
The bottom line for me is, this game can be fun, but it really isn’t at the moment in my opinion. I just hope 343 finds the right formula.
It’s not 343’s fault. What you want is J.I.P or join in progress so that the servers will find 3 other players when your team quits. Going back to Halo’s roots means no more JIP. A majority of players complained because Halo for had JIP and they felt it ruined the competitive nature of Halo. For all we no there is JIP in H5 for the casual playlists so you might be complaining about something they are already addressing.
As for Clamber and ground pound and such I have no problem with these new features, they add more to the sandbox and everyone, everyone has access to them so I don’t see a problem. Clamber is an excellent addition in my opinion and adds more of a flow. It’s only for movement and it doesn’t affect combat so I don’t see the problem.
Halo has to change or it will become stagnant like that other FPS people keep talking about. I for one like the changes 343 is making to the franchise. I wasn’t a huge fan of H4 but this new one is definitely on the right track.
Everyone has to remember that this is a beta and not to treat it like a released game. Make your suggestions for sure but we need to stop complaining.

I hope JIP stays out of H5. TBH no one wants to join in a game already halfway finished, winning or losing. It makes the game less fun. The other solution is to play with friends. There are TONS of forums out there for Halo, a little bit of research doesn’t hurt to meet new people.
I actually had a 49-49 game that I won today, but it was only close because we only had 3 players. I seem to win the majority of games 50-10 or lose 50-20 with half the kills and two players who are playing their first game and don’t get any kills.
Why should a semi-pro ever get matched with two players playing their first game, even in a Beta. That just doesn’t make sense and makes the game less fun for all parties.
The first 10 games can be a little rough, because the ranking system is testing what bracket you belong in. Overall, once you are in a bracket, then most games are competitive and fairly balanced. Once in a while lower ranked players get tested against higher ranked players, which creates opportunity for fast rank up/down situations.

Yeah, you’re right. I’m just so frustrated with this game at the moment. I think the beta should still be fun though, and i think even the beta should match by skill. I know I should be making suggestions, and for me the main one is to match by skill. I think this way, people would actually be able to experiment with the other features and enjoy the game at its full rather than destroy the other team 50-10 or get stomped by the other team in a really short match. I hope this makes sense, and I didn’t mean to be hateful in my original post.
Lets hope its just because its a Beta but the True Skill is way off I’ve seen some really bad K/D, and please nobody wish for J.I.P to come back that is the worst feature ever in any game.
