Any expectations for Locke or interested by him?

I don’t really want to say Locke feels forced, in that he’s a fresh new character having just as much importance as Chief in Campaign, but I will say that I don’t feel any interest towards him as a character.

Nightfall didn’t really build me a connection towards him, other “hey he seems like a cool dude.” He’s from Oni, but not anymore and became a Spartan. Why do you guys think he became a Spartan, was it for Randall Aiken? Maybe it had something to do with Chief since he said, “you’re not the only one here because of him.” What gives him team leader over Buck?

During the Campaign, I really hope I began to take a great liking to his character. I mean, Bungie did wow us with The Arbiter, but this feels like a much different situation lol.

As of right now I don’t give 2 -Yoinks!- about Locke. Kinda care about Buck and that’s pretty much it for Osiris. Here’s to hoping Locke doesn’t turn into another Palmer…because Jesus Christ I hate that character.

Pretty much how I feel. I haven’t had a reason to actually care about him. It just feels awkward that Nightfall is pretty much all we have to go on, and that was mediocre at best. FUD was way better, and I actually give some -Yoink- about Lasky. Boom out of nowhere, this guy is hunting Chief, is now a Spartan, and leader of probably the best fireteam. In fact, I’d almost call Locke boring for now. I hope game proves me wrong.

I like Buck and Vale and that is because I know a lot more about those characters. Locke only had a web series that did not really have any developed characters what so ever. Have to wait till I play the game.

I think Locke is interesting. He already stands out as an ONI operative that actually seems to have a moral code unlike other ONI agents that I haven’t seen a long time outside of Veronica Dare, Elias Haverson and Jilan al-Cygni. He could have killed the element miners on the Alpha Shard and been justified in doing so, yet he showed restraint by not doing so and doing what he could to keep them safe as prisoners. When his men bugged out and tried to save their own skins, he remained level-headed and refused to sink to their barbaric level. Had Randall not cheated to make himself stay behind to arm the nuke, I have no doubts that Locke would have sacrificed himself to get the job done.

Frankly I see no reason to hate him or at the very least not give him a chance. Nightfall wasn’t the best, but Colter could do so much with the script he was given. Yet I think Locke came out of Nightfall as one of the better parts of the series. Truth be told I like him better than I do Chief. That doesn’t mean I hate Chief, but he has never been a favorite of mine much to begin with and I’ve always been more of a Fred man personally.

I think what’s making some people iffy about Locke is that he’s so far shown a lack of flaws and he doesn’t have a very dynamic personality. One-dimensional in other words. But of course, you’re right in that he’s only been in a short digital series so far, and we should definitely give him a chance to show more development in Halo 5.

Also, Fred over Master Chief in terms of personality? Puhleeeeez.

Never seemed to be a problem with Chief for the fanbase.

Well, ya got me there. But you know this community; you can’t dare say anything negative about da Chief!!!

I think it would be best if Locke gets killed off, since Mike Colter backing out of doing voice overs would it be smart to keep this Master Chief usurper character around.

I am extremely interested in learning more about Locke. Nightfall was garbage, which is unfortunate, but we did get a glimpse of what type of person Locke is. Halsey spoke a bit about his morals up there^^^. I tend to agree. He clearly wants to do the right thing, not just because it incidentally aligns with whatever mission he has but because he is a genuinely virtuous person. He seems to question the orders his spooky superiors give him which may be a big reason that after the events of Nightfall he decides to leave ONI and become a SPARTAN IV. If the live action ads were any indicator (which I take with a grain of salt) Locke may have even looked up to John at one point before he went AWOL. He may still now. I am eager to find out what his personal beliefs are on having the task of hunting John and what his feelings will be once he figures out the truth.

Some people buy too much into the whole MC versus Locke mentality around here and most people that dislike Locke do so strictly because he is in opposition to John. Hopefully, at some point, Blue Team and Osiris just end up hugging it out lol.

I’ve asked this numerous times with no answer ever given but whatever, what do you based Locke being a Chief usurper on?

The assumption that 343i has an agenda to create a Halo spin off series, ONI’s agenda to have MC replaced and or retired. Two protagonists whom are being marketed to be in direct conflict with one another which hints at an inevitable confrontation.

  • So we can’t have a Locke spin-off and main Chief titles? Frankly I wouldn’t mind if the main games had Chief share the spotlight with other characters like the Arbiter, Locke, Thorne and whoever if the squad system stays. Arbiter, N’tho, Usze and (maybe one of the Ussan transplants) would make a solid team to follow.
  • Why do you assume Locke would share with ONI’s agenda? One can be ONI and not be a jerk. The fact he actually wants to know what Chief is doing shows he doesn’t just blindly see Chief as some aging Spartan who needs to go away.
  • They are only in direct conflict because Chief made the choice to go AWOL without leaving any inkling as to what he and Blue Team are doing. So pretty much unfounded fears.

1.One could argue that if they want to do another Halo than why shoehorn in another Character into the MC’s stomping ground and just make a Halo the Locke game.
2. I didn’t mean to infer that Locke is a ONI goon, in my opinion he is just one of their many pawns kept in the dark and awarded for just doing his job, following orders.
3. Well, the H5G teaser, live action trailers, and Hunt the Truth had most here talking Civil War, ONI vs Innies, and MC vs Locke even if it’s all just red herrings, misleading hype, and playful disinformation.

I personally have no negative or positive opinion on Locke as he is just another character or device to move along the narrative, but my highly irritable long time friend is immensely perturbed about this second fiddle swiping game time away from MC.

To me it feels like Locke is a character that the player can relate to when it comes to unveiling the mystery of the Campaign, yet is his own unique characters.

Can’t say I’m very fond of him, but I respect his being in Halo.

It will be interesting to see MC and Blue team in the know while Locke and Osiris are playing catch up.

I’m quite interested in seeing more of him

I would so play a Team OSIRIS/SoS/Majestic spin-off game.

Locke acting the way he did didn’t surprise me that much though, only because Oni as a whole isn’t evil/selfish. Oni has layers, and I believe certain branches aren’t as corrupt or inhumane as others. Oni as a whole, is generalized as being dirty.

I guess seeing this kind of character from an Oni Agent still is a rarity. I’m sure that I am underestimating his abilities and character too soon, but only because I do want to know more about him.

Quite honestly i expect him to ba an -Yoink-. He’s ONI and ONI have always been that un-liked human element in the Halo series. So i hope hes by the book and follows orders to the letter. I dont want him to be a likable character but at the same time i want him to be a logical character.
