What do you think was the most Anti- Climatic moment in Halo? For me, I was re-playing Halo 2 a few days ago and I killed the Prophet of Regret…but his death was super anti-climatic due to him being one of the 3 leaders of the Covenant. I mean it was punch punch punch DEAD xD What do you think was an anti-climatic moment?
Halo 2’s ending.
Halo 2’s ending was basically a very long tease into Halo 3. I hated them for it but loved them for it when Halo 3 came out.
Anyway, a couple of disappointments in this category:
In Halo CE, beating the game on legendary and expecting an amazing insight into the story or seeing MC’s face - instead I watch Johnson getting intimate with an Elite.
Loved it but at the time I felt betrayed.
In Halo 3, jumping out of a Hornet in the middle of a battle, assassinating a Brute upon landing, then punching a Scarab to death…just to watch it glitch the death animation and simply disappear. Derp.
In Halo Reach, watching Kat die. It was realistic and incredibly sad but I was expecting her to go out in a hand-to-hand fight with a General. Unfortunately she just gets a pink spike through her eye.
In Halo 4, expecting some crazy sword or fist fight with the Didact at the end of the game. Instead we watch MC get slapped around and then he manages to save the day miraculously by crawling like an infant, slapping a grenade into him, and then spanking a nuke into detonation.
It was dramatic, yes, but not in the way I’d hoped.
Prophet of Regret was indeed anti-climatic.
To name a few others:
-
The Pelican ride in H4
-
The lack of a conclusion of fighting on Earth in H3. Bungie made the bad call to do a “Return of the Jedi”: bringing back the big bad weapon from the first game. We should’ve had one last big climatic battle in war torn Mombasa where Earth finally is shown to be brought to their knees before Chief makes the last resort jump to the Ark.
Now it was one big build up to go to a big fight, resulting in a bright blue ball and us going away from Earth AGAIN.
They did that in H2.
They did it in H3.
ODST essentially brought us that desperate last battle, on a way smaller scale than a Master Chief-Halo game would have shown us.
I guess Bungie just didn’t know how to handle a full out war scene. One of their few flaws.
EDIT:
The Didact fight in H4 was indeed also a huge anticlimax
Halo 2’s ending…and even Halo 3’s beginning to be honest. How do Johnson and Miranda get to earth before Chief? I’m still having trouble working that one out. Prophet Regret’s death was another one. I would have been happier with Chief pulling out a knife and stabbing him in the eye.
Killing the Didact, Halo 2’s ending, Kat’s driving especially when you were trying to go for an epic, heroic voyage and she just drives you off the cliff, and also, hunters from halo CE where one shot with the pistol in the back kills them.
Foe Hammer going down.
They Killed character that had makings for good minor character in future.
