First off I would just like to say, I don’t understand why 343 would choose to offer a first person shooter for free and not have an anti-cheat, or even a way to report players.
That being said, I think there needs to be a universal anti-cheat across all competitive FPS. There needs to be a standard and a collective effort to rid all FPS of cheaters. It’s a universal problem, especially for the more popular games. Valorant’s Vanguard is the most reliable and effective anti-cheat I’ve seen since VAC. Ranked matches are null if a cheater is detected. An anti-cheat that’s universal, can be implemented with every single release… thus allowing it to be much more effective. I feel as if most anti-cheats are a half-hearted efforts because it doesn’t effect your profit margins, and it’s more so to benefit the competitive community… in saying that you’ve got to realize the longevity of a game… weighs heavily on how much of the player base is saturated with these -Yoink!- roaches. If a game has a strong anti-cheat… it promotes competitive play, Valorant is a prime example… it’s massively popular because it has a strong anti-cheat. Does anyone honestly think that game would be doing so well if it had a lackluster anti-cheat or if it was just absent of one all together. Either way, I think it’s naive of 343 to release a game without one. You’re going to put Halo in the ground unless you move quickly to establish something that’s substantial.
You should focus on keeping the hackers at bay, banning ID’s that are hard to spoof. Such as hardware, rather than IPs. It’s a plague that not only ruins the over all experience of a game, but it places a stigma on the franchise. No one likes to go to Youtube and see “Hackers in Halo”.
