Firstly I’m merely proposing an idea to change how boss scoring works, I’m not complaining about the way it is now or demanding change. IT’S JUST AN IDEA I HAD.
Warzone bosses at the moment are killed by the last shot done to them. I would like to suggest a new way to determine which team gets the kill on the boss. I call it the credit system. This is how it works. (Note this is only for legendary bosses)
The game looks at the last eight seconds of a bosses life. Second 1 is the very last second of the bosses life, Second 8 is eight seconds before the boss died. For each Second there is an allotment of credits. These credits are handed out to teams based off of the ratio of damage they dealt compared to how much damage the boss takes per Second. For example if a team does half the amount of damage the boss took in one second they get half of that Seconds credits. When the boss dies the credits for each team are determined and whoever has the most gets the points for the kill.
Second 8 - 10 credits
Second 7 - 12 credits
Second 6 - 14 credits
Second 5 - 16 credits
Second 4 - 18 credits
Second 3 - 20 credits
Second 2 - 25 credits
Second 1 - 30 credits
Some examples, if during Second 6 each team does half the damage that the boss received then they both get 7 credits. If during Second 1 Blue team does 1/3 the damage they get 10 credits and Red team gets 20.
Things to note- Credits are only handed out for the last 8 seconds of a bosses life, damage you did to the boss a minute ago doesn’t earn a team anything. This can lead to “stealing” in the form of your team clearing out the other team and then finishing off the boss yourselves, but prohibits “stealing” by just waiting to the last second and then shooting the boss from half way across the map with say a sniper or Spartan laser. Also if both teams are dealing damage at the same time then you can still have tense moments when your not sure who will get the kill.

and here I thought the “divide based on dmg done” idea was needlessly complex.
edit for OP: I do appreciate the effort, thought and time you gave this; it’s preferable to the people who just rage and whine about last-shot awards without providing alternatives.
Yeah it does sound complex but practically it’s really just an expanded version of the last shot gets the kill system.

Thanks for the nice words. Although I don’t really expect 343 to make any changes based off of one forum post I was kind of hoping to get some constructive feedback. Maybe even some interesting discussions.
While I do think that this is an interesting idea that has a fair amount of merit, I think it’s a bit too complex to really be implemented. Keep in mind that, often, simpler is better. If you can’t easily understand what’s going on while playing the game, something needs to be fixed.

I think that’s the inherent beauty of the idea. From 343’s end there is definitely some extra work to be put into the code but from the players end nothing changes. All you focus on is when the boss’s health is low, putting as much damage into it as possible. This is something that most players already do. Really, while my idea sounds complicated the only change it really makes to the system is it prevents last second boss steals.
