We know that Halo 4 is the beginning of a new trilogy.
We also know that the Precursor’s are the bigger threat (hence the whole reason for the Flood existing and the reason the Halo rings were built) The Didact wanted to Compose all of humanity to fight the Flood/Precursors when they returned (otherwise he would just be sitting there bored with his Promethean A.I.'s)
As for reality: 343 spent a lot of time on the new weapons and enemies (Prometheans)
My thinking is this: there will be either another trilogy, or we/the Didact will somehow prevent the Flood’s return.
Why?
343 worked hard on the Prometheans, and only having them in one game would be kind-of a waste of resources, no? Yes…it would be a waste.
With that in mind, and in Spartan Ops we continue to fight the Prometheans, it’s logical to assume we will keep fighting them throughout the trilogy. If the Flood returned that would be too many enemies in my opinion (Covenant, Prometheans, Flood)
So I think it’s logical to assume that there will be a new trilogy where we fight the Flood, or we prevent their return in this trilogy. (My thinking is that there will be a new trilogy, more money if you know what I mean)
If they do another trilogy with nothing but the Didact being a ponce, I’m done. Why can’t the Prometheans ever be allies against the Flood? Same with the Covenant?
Personally, I think that the UNSC will eventually get the Knights as allies against the Flood, but I think the Covenant will still be there fighting as bad guys (Imagine a whole game of only Flood…so yeah the Covenant will probably remain bad)
Also, with Spartan Ops showing that the UNSC is getting hold of Forerunner hardware that has something to do with Knight creation, I think eventually they’ll control the Knights.

Games like Dead Space still rock with one kind of enemy.
It’s just that 343i need to be creative about that one species.

I agree, and they have potential to do that if the Precursors have been upping the ante with the Flood. I’m talking some Evil Dead/Dead Space stuff. Not gory, just really disturbing, after all these things take over bodies and use its biomass. Did anyone get a good look at the Proto-Gravemind that Keyes was a part of in Halo: CE Anniversary? That thing was gross upon closer inspection.
Stuff like that. However I think it’ll be more than one enemy because Halo’s always been that way.
I still hope, and say, that the Flood will return and that we will face a more evolved, ferocious version, different from what we have faced before.
Dead Space has always had a large variety of disturbing monsters, infected, to face, so Halo should focus on variety, I honestly expected a surprise during the Campaign or that we would face a more powerful version of a Promethean, but we did not sadly, but looking at their Concept Art and work on the Promethean’s we could see something soon.
I hope they wrap it up this trilogy in terms of series story. I think there are plenty of opportunities for stories to be told in games or otherwise. I think ANOTHER trilogy would be too much continuing with the same storyline.

You make a very good point, and I must agree. There’s just the problem of the Flood coming back eventually (and the fact that there’s money to be made)
While I don’t think the Promethean Knights are going anywhere I don think they will be enemies for very long. They weren’t all that interesting as an enemy. No personalities at all, nothing truly interesting about them. They were good in combat but NOTHING more. True halo enemies usually have more to them. The only one who had ANY substance to them was the Didact and you didn’t see him as much as we should have.
