Halo 5’s graphics are incredible. Somehow the visuals in games just keep getting better and better, and you have to admit that you wonder how it’s even possible. But they are going to get even 10x better in Halo 6, and this is why.
Take a look at Halo CE for the original Xbox. At the time it came out, the graphics were top notch. A few years later Halo 2 came out and shocked everyone with even better graphics. Then came Halo 3 on the Xbox 360, a game that boasted a new engine. The visuals were absolutely stunning and it was hard to believe that graphics food get any better. But they did. Five years later on the 360, Halo 4 came out. The graphics were so much better than Halo 3’s and honestly, I think the game could pass as an Xbox One game it was that good.
My point is that graphics evolve greatly as the life span of each console lengthens. Halo CE<Halo 2, and Halo 3<Halo 4. Next, it’s going to be Halo 5>Halo 6. All of this may sound obvious, but based on the dramatic changes from Halo 3 to 4 I think the visuals are going to look nearly realistic in Halo 6. In fact, I think the in game graphics are going to look like the cutscenes in Halo 2A.
I agree they will certainly look better, but there is the idea of diminishing return. Eventually there will become less and less of a gap, but we aren’t there yet. Also, the H@A cut scenes were live action, that’s why they looked so good.
I agree with Trespa5s, today we are in the 4k realm. The Xbox One can play in 4k, should you have the right TV. Household Technology is almost to the point where the human eye can no longer render differences, and our video games are approaching that point as well. That being said time and time again someone has said “This point right here is where we stop excelling” and then been proven wrong. I’m anxious to see the Halo 6 graphics, and even more anxious to see H7.
I’m pumped for H3A. Graphics are better in remasters because everything you need is right there, other than textures. It’ll probably look better than H6.

Yeah, the Xbox can output 4k, but now way in hell will it be able to render any game at 4k with decent framerates. A whole new console would have to be released for this to be feasible, or at the least Halo would need to come to PC once more.

Graphics are horrible. Most of the maps look like they were created back in Halo 2. The graphics in the other shooter games on the market are far better.

I completely agree, by no means was I saying H5 itself is being played in 4k. Movies and TV however it can manage just fine. I was using that as a nod that our gear is slowly surpassing our eyes, and someday our games will be there.
I’m not sure if it is possible to surpass our eyes, but pixel density of 8k screens is so high that pixels become indistinguishable at a very short distance.
Halo 5’s graphics are pretty good, aside from the dynamic framerate, and my largest gripe; a lack of decent texture filtering.
Would be great to put augmented reality into it.
Like a mini map, birds eye view at the side of your screen marking all your allies positions.
Have cortana pop up out of the Xbox home button right on your controller to communicate.
The possibilities are endless, it could be amazing!!

So then if you’re no longer able to distinguish a difference, would you not say that at that point the technology has surpassed your eyes ability to decipher it as well as the tech can produce it? (That might be hard to follow, I reread it like twice and almost confused myself lol)
This is what they’ve done with the IPhone “Retina Display” They fit enough pixels in that if they put any more you can arguably say that the resolution is getting better, but the human eye can no longer see a difference. They could then move from focus on resolution to focus on color using OLEDs but we would reach a point where we’ve maxed out the human eyes ability to detect that too. At that point, what else can we do to improve graphics?

Use photo-grammatry to render life like characters, weapons, and environments. After that… VR!!!

I don’t believe that’s the proper use of the word photogrammetry, as that is considered the science of using photos to determine distance. I don’t see how that’s got much application in rendering characters, and environments. VR is cool, I just don’t think the tech is there yet. Oculus has done some pretty cool stuff with VR though.
Edit: I read up on it a bit, I guess what you’re saying is how the actual models of the above mentioned things are designed, but that still doesn’t have anything to do with quality of graphics display I don’t think. Just the quality of model produced.
Graphics aren’t that great, all the textures are just cheap jpeg pictures. Some textures look really good like forge items but natural elements like grass and mud are just pictures. Tire tracks aren’t really there, just pictures. I won’t say that the graphics suck, but other games have actual textures. Halo 2 Anniversary had better graphics.

Hey graphics, amiright? I think it would be funny if 343i makes an actual model of MJOLNIR armor, fully functioning and everything, just to take a bunch of photos and upload them into Photoshop. Also, I do believe that photogrammetry does improve the graphics quality of in-game models, as it was employed during the development of SW: Battlefront, and that game has some -Yoink!- graphics and models.
Also, thanks for the proper spelling of photogrammetry. Waypoint still thinks that it needs spell checking.

halo 3 had splash effects for water… halo 4 was bland af

I believe Bungie hired a company (Nightmare Costumes I think? And it might have been 343i, I can’t remember who was in control at this time) to make a suit for that one 6 episode series… What was that series called again… The one with the UNSC training school Corbula (Corbulo?) Academy. Anyway, they hired this company to create a suit for use in the series, and the guys that made it talked about how it was a challenge because what you see in game isn’t actually completely functional for mobility IRL and such. It was pretty cool.
And for the photogrammetry, what you’re saying makes sense. I thought you were saying to use it to display graphics, as opposed to design them.

Sadly the only PC game is enjoy playing as much as Halo is Skyrim and even that is a distant second. Skyrim does look great in 4k with some extensive modding though.

Skyrim on PC is amazing, too bad I could never make it work with the mods and system that I was using. I’m hoping that my new system I’m building will work better.
