another halo odst in the future?

I love Halo 3 ODST! Even though a sequel of it wouldn’t work cause of what happened to the rookie. !Won’t spoiler if you haven’t read the book!
But have another Halo ODST game set in a different time in a different city or planet. Maybe make it like Halo Reach.
Tell me what setting and ideas you would put in if you were in charge of making another ODST story.

I would totally be on board for another ODST like spin off. My two picks would either be:

Spartan 3 Programme.
Following a team of SPI wearing SIII’s on one of their suicide missions on some colony world. Being a SIII in SPI would mean you’re not the ultimate super soldier that SII and SIV’s are, bringing back that ODST like feeling. It would also avoid being too similar to ODST. I would like to have another semi-open world however with a gritty and depressing setting. The entire nature of being an SIII makes it fit for a side story of soldiers doing their jobs and meeting tragic ends. They could explore the story with some missions being flashbacks to the training program. Or: maybe even have one of the characters ending up being part of NOBLE Team.

Or:

Spartan IV Programme.
Basically taking the idea of Spartan Ops in terms of scope and characters but instead give it a proper campaign structure, proper story and all. Downside: you’d be a powerful SIV again and you’d be fighting in the less interesting post-H3 era. Although that could probably be fixed by maybe taking cues from the Kilo-5 trilogy and having a small team on a Covenant world where all hell breaks loose. Imagine that Forerunner city level from H5 turned into a giant open world, ODST story structure and a team having to reunite amidst a civil war.

I like how both of those ideas sound!

I would like another title like Halo 3:ODST. But I would also like it to include a player vs player gametype of its own (since war games simulations can be used by non-spartan personnel, it’s not an in-universe canon issue). Spin-offs are said to be on their mind so its not impossible.

I would certainly be in favor of another ODST game if they continued to expand on the necessity of remaining unseen and lessening the focus of direct combat while playing up the fragility of an limitedly augmented or unaugmented soldier. Game play could include a team to allow for an interesting cast, but the game should definitely offer moments where the player finds themselves alone and potentially vulnerable. The player should feel that while they could potentially take on a few “grunts” and maybe a leader or two, it could potentially lead to a longer skirmish that they simply couldn’t handle on their own.

With that in mind, it shouldn’t be a rehash of the original, the player shouldn’t be lost without support. They would be sent into dangerous situations knowingly, situations that need a bit more tact than what a near half ton walking war machine could do and they should be equipped with the proper gear to handle it. Suppressed weaponry, electronic support (detailed minimap of the over-world with real time troop movements tracked as they are spotted by the player, EMP based weaponry, non fatal weapons or ability which stun or otherwise incapacity foes. Maybe even a link to ONI command that will instruct players on a suggested course of action should they get stuck, complete with waypoint and navigation, should the player need help (something sort of like using the codec in Metal Gear games past). Now I’m just musing and rambling…

I would love to see a new Halo ODST game, I really enjoyed the H3: ODST.

I feel like playing as an ODST in the midst of Cortanas EMP blast would be interesting

What’s the difference between a Spartan and an ODST?

Remembering back to Halo: ODST- it seemed like there wasn’t much of a difference…

Actually there are huge differences especially between Spartan II’s and III’s. They are biologically and mechanically augmented super soldiers in Mjolnir armor. Only real difference between ODST’s and Spartan IV’s is the armor the Spartan IV’s have which is Gen II mjolnir armor that puts them up to par physically with a Spartan II or III in Gen I armor.

Spartan II

In the Halo canon many ODSTs became spartan IV, if I’m not mistaken there are only a few squadrons left

Spartan IV

That would be awesome

Sure i would be interested to see another ODST game though just after this second main story trilogy is done. Then there could be again a chance of pace from action oriented supersoldier campaign to a bit more stealth leaning special ops campaign with different sorts of tech such as the VISR.

Though this time there could be a bit more stealthy and shock attack type of things in it. Like dropping in the middle of a battle in near suicide conditions like in the live action trailer for the original ODST. And with stealth covers could be used better to hide and more working stealth oriented gear.

There are more differences between Spartan-IVs and ODSTs than just having Mjolnir Armor. Just because their augmentations aren’t as effective as the Spartan IIs and IIIs doesn’t mean their augmentations are negligible. They have virtually unbreakable bones, improved reaction times, their joints are reinforced or replaced, they had muscle injections and grafts, corneal implants that improve eyesight and night vision, and a ton of other augmentations.

If I could get an ODST-style game involving the Insurrection and the opening years of the Human-Covenant War, that’d be great.

Um. Right. You obviously know nothing about Spartan-IVs, because they’ve been augmented significantly as well. Muscular, skeletal, optical, digestive, metabolic, circulatory, and respiratory enhancements (among others) are applied to Spartan-IVs, making them significantly more lethal than the UNSC’s unaugmented forces. It’s not quite as significant a boost as those of the -IIs and -IIIs, but saying that the only real difference between ODSTs and Spartan-IVs is armor is completely false.

i thoroughly enjoyed ODST, would welcome a new odst game, bring back those memories and the feeling of being an odst

Definitely, would love another ODST game. However, in Halo 3: ODST, I still had the feeling of being a Spartan (in terms of being shot at), so if possible I’d like to feel weaker? But yeah, loved the atmosphere, would like a more focused story on the character (hopefully customisable like Reach) instead of the flash backs.
