Crunch is ok. It’s likely in their contract that they are expected to work overtime. Crunch isn’t something unique to gaming. Most organizations expect it to meet deadlines.
100% agree. If they are working 40hr weeks I would be amazed.
I think that rotating game modes, every weekly challenge set having something more substantial than emblems, and their narrative events they have on the way could fit the bill. Like, they straight up said they wouldn’t put anymore emblems as the capstone for weekly challenges; that’s a definite plus for getting folks to check back in once per week.
Out of interest… where did you get the 12-15hrs from?
But I guess it doesn’t matter anyway… you should only work the hours you are paid for. That’s an important part of well being.
I work in a job (not software) where there is a general expectation (from my workplace and the general public) that I should just get on and do the work.
I’ve been abused by members of the public for walking out when my shift was finished.
But you have to protect yourself from burnout.
Respect for 343 taking this stand.
I was being facetious with the 12-15hrs. I really don’t think they’re working that hard. If they work 40hr weeks I will be shocked.
If crunch is in their contract then that is the price of doing business.
Not entirely sure if you were replying to me cause this app is subpar to put it nicely, but I too have have difficultly imagining the crunch is really that bad.
No one really wants or expects fortnite levels of shooting out content week after week after week. There has to be a middle ground. And they’re way too far away on that spectrum to be considered in that middle ground.
Doctors, nurses, first responders, lawyers, a ton of professions have to deal with relatively large work weeks. I’m an accountant, and I literally got done working my 5th tax season where I had to work a minimum of 55 hours a week and only get Sundays off. Some mental fortitude helps.
But that said, I don’t necessarily think the game is in this state because they’re not putting in hours. I blame the leadership 100%. If an NFL coach was in charge for 3 straight seasons where the team was pitiful, he gets fired. Why should this be any different?
I doubt that crunch would have been in their contract.
And even if it was - with good pay for overtime etc - it’s an unsustainable work model.
They do this at work with another part of the workforce - there are double shifts being offered every day. The problem is that it just leads to burnout.
And crunches only work up to the release of the game. Now they need to find a sustainable work level that sustains the game going forward. I think we can all agree that S1 was light on, especially the second half. I am happy to wait and see what S2 deals us before being too critical.
Sorry brother, I was replying to you. It does seem the app didn’t work properly…
But yeah, I do think it’s a management issue. Unfortunately they are lacking the leadership necessary to meet deadlines. 2 maps after six months is abysmal progress. I have to imagine trying to lead a bunch of snowflakes is like herding cats though.
And kudos to you for putting in the work. You know the job so you get on with it. I’m in the forces so I have to achieve my tasks no matter what as well.
I guess they just won’t get any sympathy from me. Many occupations expect constant long work hours, lawyers, doctors, emergency services, military.
I gag when I hear game devs whine about crunch. Especially knowing what the millenial work force is like.
I just hope that the sale of those books will not be postponed, at least we can see the update of Halo universe.
Disappointing on the delays.
Not sure where the accountability is at due to the lack of transparency surrounding it.
It would be nice for deeper transparency outside of “operation zero” which is almost meaningless to consumers at this point.
Man I wish I could do virtually nothing for 6 months at my job and get away with it, creating a good product requires some sort of sacrifice.
Welp, as one of those gullible hopefuls who had been hoping to see actual progress…here we are with what appears to be another extended, six-month season to round out Infinite’s first year with scarcely any maps along with a bunch of features and modes having tentative “targeted” dates for launch such as co-op campaign, mission select, and a Forge Open Beta.
Yeeeeaaaah…this sucks.
Oh that’s the British version of whining.
Did not know that word exist.
They didn’t even do MCC right. You couldn’t play it for like a year. That was another game they shipped incomplete.
F-that. Unless they have us chasing armors for weekly goals I have zero interest of playing once my battle pass is over.
Freaking bring back the ranking system like in MCC and I’m good.
That’s what I said
It took a very long time to get where it is, and it’s still not perfect
That explains why I didn’t see it. I’ve been at work since about 1500 hours and I work until 0400 the following morning.
Nobody liked this post because it doesn’t make any sense. Why are you defending this company? The game has the least content of any halo and it’s been almost a year. How hard is it to put game modes in a game? And maps? I can make a map in a day. You’re either delusional with your head in the sand, or a troll that needs to go back under the bridge.
I legit wish live service games and mtx infested games would just die off, seriously, abandon live service and go back to making GOOD games, good games make more money in the long run.
