Okay, I’ve got some problems with Halo 5’s choice of customization.
Aside from the fact that all armor progression in this game is tied to the Req system (aside from Nightfall, MK.6 G1 Variants, Helioskrill and Achilles), 343 chose to saddle us with this blue visor.
My gripe is that the visor doesn’t lend itself too well to customization. Try making black armor with red highlights, and the blue visor. It looks terrible. They should have just let us customize visors with the color pallete.
Same goes with the body suits. All of the armor in this game looks the same because the body suit meshes with the armor and makes it look like a big blob. It’s really hard to differentiate armor at a glance because of that.
What do you guys think? Do you think the body suits are fine? The visor can stay the way it is, and Halo 6 shouldn’t touch that area of customization?
There’s like 40 different visors of varying colors and accent colors. I don’t understand what exactly your problem is…
Looks like you’ve just started playing Halo 5, so you probably haven’t unlocked any new visors. But there are more visors beyond the Recruit Blue, you just need to unlock them via the REQ system.

The blue doesn’t lend itself well to armor color customization, and getting more visors from the Req system is suprisingly hard.
I play Halo 5 Forge (free multiplayer. I also own Guardians, but I’m not paying $60 to use my internet that my family already pays for) and you don’t earn Req points or anything for playing that. Therefore, you’re stuck with the blue visor for thousands of hours until you’ve grinded daily unlocks to get silver packs.
Reach handled the visor the best because Default was incredibly basic, and didn’t make any armor color combo look unusual when used in conjunction with that default visor. This visor is too close to one particular color (blue) that it makes early game customization problematic.

I’ve taken a look, and I’ve seen all of them. I just don’t understand why 343 thought it neccessary to give everyone the solid blue as a starting, default visor, when they could have used Frost (Frost being the example visor they use in all helmet previews on the customization area of the site) or something that wasnt too close to any of the main RGB colors.
Accidently quoted myself. Whoops.
Just play the game. You will get REQ points from playing social, ranked and warzone (not from customs). With those REQ points you first buy silver packs until you get REQ point out of those. After that you buy gold packs.
It is completely random, but eventually you will get visors from those silver packs.
I strongly agree with this post. The default, starting visor should be a neutral color. Everyone saying “just play the game to unlock more” is missing the point, we should be starting with a neutral colored visor so it can be changed to something else after playing more.
Also I don’t really mind that parts of the bodysuit change color, but the whole thing should be customizable. I find it annoying that parts of it always have to be black. It limits freedom in the sense that I can never truly be a two-colored Spartan if one of those colors isn’t black. For example, what if I want to be a purple and yellow Spartan? Nope, it’s gotta be purple and yellow and black because of those parts of the undersuit (and if I happened to pick one of those armors that has un-changeable white paint, it would be purple and yellow and black and white…)
I just put this in the ‘they’re never gonna change it’ category. For me, my annoyance is there are too many visor colors that have miniscule differences with each other.

If anything, they should’ve maintained the default yellow-gold visor seen in the older games. With the exception of Saturnine (Ultra Rare), Clockwork, Autumn, Legendary, and Daybreak just don’t seem right.

Having tertiary armor colors and bodysuit colors would make for some interesting combos. Rainbow Spartans, anyone?
So OP doesn’t pay for xbl, so what do you really expect from an online multiplayer game? Honestly if you’re not playing online, I wouldn’t even bother buying Halo at this point since there’s no local multiplayer or co-op.

Exactly. I have a red visor that matches my black and red shadow the hedgehog armor perfectly. Jk sonic sucks

I can still play online (for free) on PC. I just don’t have access to Warzone or anything like that. Only Custom Games

We should start with a neutral colored visor as opposed to blue. It makes certain customization options look extremely weird before you earn any visors. Earning visors is luck of the draw because of the lootbox system that this game uses. You might get a visor. You might also get a Seeker helmet. Halo Reach had us start with a neutral colored visor (it was kind of grayish-white. No real color there) and it was totally fine. That was probably the best visor in game.
In all honesty woipd have liked a gold start visor
Visor is fine cause well they literally give you a million to choose from. You gotta play the game first though lol shocking? I don’t mind the body suits too much but it would be nice to customize since that’s my favorite part of halo. I want more customizable options like reach had it. People could really Express themselves unlike halo5 where people only where 10 different armor pieces because most of them are disgusting

I agree.
You can’t tell what people wear unless someone views your player card… or looks at your corpse.
They should darken the undersuit color.
Keep it red and blue just darker than the armor.

Suppose there is X problem with a video game that could be easily solved by the developers in the next installment of the franchise, with minimal effort. Further suppose that X problem is annoying, but tends to go away when one progresses further in the game.
At this point, you have a couple of choices: you can be a productive member of society and advocate for the developer to eliminate X problem, or you can spread pointless negativity by saying “it’s fine because it won’t matter if you progress further in the game, so why even advocate for X problem to be solved?” and being sarcastic while doing so. Ask yourself: which would be a better choice? And remember, solving X problem in the next installment of the franchise would take almost no effort on part of the developer.
Also, they don’t literally give you a million to choose from

Well 1 it was exaggerating but they do give you a bunch to choose from (though I feel a lot look the same lol)
2 that was really passive aggressiveness lol
3 it was meant to be sarcastic if that offended you then I apologize that wasn’t my intention
4 what defines it as a problem though? Because you don’t like it? Sorry mate but that doesn’t define it as a problem because it’s an opinion and don’t get me wrong you have all the right to express your opinion it is a forum. I know some people that rock the recruit default visor even though they unlocked everything in the game. I mean don’t get me wrong if In halo6 they add the option power to you and everyone else cause more customization count me in but I don’t think it’s something that I’d consider them putting in. Don’t get me wrong it’s the little things that make a good game great. That’s my opinion

Wait, so, you actually prefer the starting visor to be a garish blue instead of a neutral color (i.e. white gray or black)? You are of course welcome to that opinion too, but it’s not good for people who just started playing and wish to wear colors that would clash with blue. The nice thing about neutral colors is that they don’t clash with other colors. It’s fine if you prefer the default visor to be blue, but that wasn’t clear from your post.

Visor isn’t fine though. Halo Reach, 3, 2 and 1 gave you a neutral colored visor from the get go that did not clash aggressively with any armor colors. In Reach, they let you customize your visor, but the basic visor was a neutral color. In the end, that visor was the best for customization because it clashed with nothing. Having blue makes customization far more difficult because trying to make a red armor looks strange when combined with the blue visor that you’re stuck with until you get a seriously lucky dice roll to get something that matches your preferred color (or Frost, which is the most neutral visor in the game. Hence why they use it for Helmet previews).

I prefer the black. Makes the armor look less blobish by default.
They’ve either got to give us straight black, or let us customize the body suit in full.

Huh you’re not wrong I could see that I guess. To me it was just hey you get new visors pretty quickly (I hate the req system though) but you still get them fairly quickly. So to me it’s why fix this when it takes a few days at most? I guess that’s just my viewpoint though personally I don’t care if they do it I mean power to the players but I just don’t see it as a problem I guess
