Anniversary Banshee

I’m very curious why the hideous stubby-winged Reach model is being used for the Banshee in Anniversary rather than the beautiful and elegant Halo 3 model that has been used for every other game?

I’m not sure but I’m probably gonna go with time constraints

From a canonical stand point, that’s the current generation of Banshees, and is what the Fleet of Particular Justice would have in their hangar bays.

I’m not so sure myself…but ah well, banshees are banshees.

Another part of canon that Reach slaughtered…

But that doesn’t make sense since Reach had boosting Banshees while Halo CEA will have non boosting banshees. Did they run out of Banshee magic or something.

How do you figure?

Is it any worse than the “canon slaughter” of different Marine armors in every game? Or the constant change of Brute appearance? Or the upgrade that the MJOLNIR armor received?

Technology upgrades. Who knows, maybe the Banshees that we see in Halo 2 and 3 are that way because they’re the new line of Banshees.

Did those Banshees magically gain boost in Halo 2? That’s a gameplay element, bro, not necessarily a canonical element.

That doesn’t explain why in the original Halo: Combat Evolved, Banshees looked strikingly similar to those of Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo Wars.

There are a lot of things that “aren’t explained” because the concept came later. Like the Spartan Laser not being in Halo: CE and 2, even though it is now known to be present. Consider this an aesthetic ret-con.

So using the same Banshees from Halo CE isn’t a cononical element. I honestly don’t care about what banshee appears I just found a loophole is all. I just think that the reason they used the Reach Banshees and the Reach Army Troopers was because of time constraints.

Well thank goodness we can’t take screenshots because I’d never want to take a screenshot of the hideous “Banshee” they used.

In terms of the Banshee’s operation, that’s something to take up with the game engine constraints. Boost doesn’t exist in Halo: CE. This doesn’t mean that the Banshees lost the ability, we know them to be able to do so.

They also slightly changed the Banshees. They now have lights on the wings. The Marines are also not the Army troopers from Reach, they only look similar to the Marines in Reach. There were Marines, most notably in the last level. Even then, they’ve been changed to look a little more unique. This also keeps a cohesive aesthetic flow between UNSC troops from Reach.

Uh-oh… looks like someone has been talking to George Lucas…

LOL

Looks fine to me

this.

but i do kinda like the halo reach banshee, it gave it a more “machine” like appearence.

There’s a difference between updating a game that wasn’t expected to go very far to match up with the games that have been “fleshed out,” to going back and adding unnecessary stuff. The Reach Banshee has the basics of what makes a Banshee a Banshee; the cockpit is relatively the same, and the wings still do have a “V” shape.

> Another part of canon that Reach slaughtered…

Not necessarily. Look at the Scorpion MBT. There’s the M808 from Halo 3, ODST and Reach as well as the M808B from Halo 1 and 2. I’m willing to bet that there are several more variants as well. Same goes for the Sniper Rifle too, which has the SRS99 in Reach, the SRS99C-S2 in Halo 1 and 2 as well as the SRS99D-S2 in Halo 3/ODST.

Point is, if humans have different variants of their weapons and vehicles, why can’t the Covenant? Chances are that the three different Banshees ever seen (Halo Reach Banshee, Halo Reach Space Banshee and Halo Trilogy+ODST Banshee)are just different variants used by the Covenant.

To be honest, I don’t really mind having the Reach Banshee being used in Halo Anniversary, it gives a nice breath of fresh air compared to what we’ve seen in past Halo games, especially since the Anniversary Banshee has its wings bent to fit the contour of the original.

I tend to take the approach that unless something affects the plot, then it is alright for it to be altered from medium to medium. I don’t, personally, take issue with breaches of canon like that, because I don’t consider them “canon.” It’s just the nature of design that things evolve. You have to give the artists room, or the franchise will stagnate. So let 'em have their varying visuals. Until those varying visuals cause a plot contradiction.

I personally think the Reach model looks better. Just an opinion, I guess.
