So, I couldn’t sleep at silly o’clock this morning and I was annoying the other half so she kicked me downstairs, so I sat on the sofa and the dog rolled over and kicked me in the
, I thought to myself, “well I’ll go and play that therapeutic game, Halo Infinite”.
So I did, and within the first few games, I fired a rocket at someone and even though they didn’t have rockets, my rocket disappeared into their face and I died by their rocket.
I was obviously ecstatic, I clipped it and uploaded it here to show what a fabulous day Halo was going to present to me, and titled it ‘i’m gonna lose my

During the next game, I thought, “oh
, bet they had repulsor”. Looked at the clip, maybe - but no animation/sound for it, looked here, @RamboBambiBambo had already suggested it, oh great, that’s the fourth person/dog to get one over on me and I shouldn’t even be awake yet, checked theatre and sure enough, theatre did a good job for a change (except sound at the end and wrong outline colour) and the player had done a perfectly timed deflect with animations and sound (although these may have started behind me which would explain why I couldn’t see them so the animation should start sooner on both our screens if that’s the case).

So I told people to disregard, felt like a noob and hoped it would drop off the bottom of the forum asap.
But then it brought up two points:
- How much of the anger towards some deaths blamed on desync/netcode/lag/noIdeaWhatI’mTalkingAbout could be avoided by just improving the feedback/animation from the game?
We’ve learnt to expect so many connection problems that we jump to that conclusion, same as we’ve learnt to expect cheaters that any good play or luck brings cheating accusations. How many of these deaths wouldn’t have caused frustration if the animations/feedback were better?
- How many good moments have been lost because of the same?
If I’d have had the animation my end (and/or sooner), and a repulsor, we could have had a lovely game of rocket tennis and there would have been no rage whatsoever or I would have said ‘good play’ and expected a loving tbag.
Another simple QoL improvement would be having the return to sender envelope in the kill feed.
Maybe the envelope with whatever you return, so in this case a rocket with an envelope, could do the same for any weapon or fusion coil. Same goes if your drop wall repels a grenade etc (boom block with a kill).
@Blizzarus made a thread (below) with links to YT, of which I watched all the videos. As the OP said there, they highlighted and showed many different animations from different perspectives that would definitely cause confusion.
