Animated armor coating

Animated armor coating could be cool to see maybe as a special reward for achievements or competitive matches.
Of course they shouldn’t be animated completely so they won’t be very distracting, but small animations such as simple shiny effect, flames moving on the armor or snakes slithering around the armor.

What kind of animated coatings would you want?

That actually sounds like a really awesome idea. Though, having it be just a small section rather than its entirety would be nice. I think getting some flames or maybe snow like particle ones would be really cool. Probably won’t happen for awhile though.

I don’t prefer, usually glowing armor is a favor to many players in many games. Ex, Destiny 2. People where armor vanity that glows all the time and many other armors are striked out because of it. If there were glowing armor like streaks or lines, not only will it be preferred by many, but it wouldn’t look Halo imo.

Unless we talking about the tiny lights here and there like Ironman’s suits then thats totally fine~

Animated armours would be cool… but I guess 343 need to be careful. If everyone in the game is rocking heavily animated armours it could be a bit jarring from a visual perspective.

Maybe subtle things… like an animated logo on the breast plate? A counter of kills on the shoulder.

And what would be cool is the ability to have animated armours in custom / scripted games (ie. tied to player traits). So we can simulate infection games… or have a specific armour animation for the juggernaut, current leader, etc.

I agree here, little details like that would be so much easier to do on their end as well as developers. I get having all out animated armour sounds great on paper, but is a way to get distracted especially on the battlefield, who knows though, I would love to see some bunnies jumping on someone’s armour :joy::joy:

Animated coatings could really get out of hand and if they do, might possibly make me sick. So I’m not too sure about this. Maybe if it’s something like a glow… but if it’s anything rapid or too off, no way.

Did they state that season rewards/challenges would also be for campaign and not just multiplayer? If so, they should definitely make unique animated coatings that can only be unlocked via campaign and vice versa.

I think a glow would be a bad idea too, considering how they’re doing team recognition.

True. To be honest, I can’t really think of a good reason animated coatings would make it in. Visors will probably be animated, they appeared in MCC. But coatings? Probably not.

It looks like the community is divided, but I could definitely see myself rocking an animated coating.

Animated versions of things that are normally “still” are always cool. But with armor coatings, its a careful balance. If everybody has animated coatings, they aren’t special anymore and just make gameplay look weird if everybody’s armor is moving. But certain things like subtle glows, subtle emblem/embellishment movements, and subtle flames could work. Key word being “subtle”.

Great point, subtlety is key. I think another thing to consider, since now we only have outlines instead of RvB, how would animated armor affect how we see our team or enemies? How would a glow or a moving texture improve or ruin certain aspects. If you have a team of animated spartan armor against a team of still spartan armor, how will that affect the results of the game. Finally, my question would be, how do we prevent these animated skins from looking odd or cheesy. How do we make it still look “Halo” like.

pulsating plasma damage.

anything related to fire I’m a complete sucker for.

I would say that animated coatings kinda makes armor look like toys, but since armor effects are coming back, I guess animated armor coatings wouldn’t be out of place.

Animated coatings could get dangerous depending on how bright/flashy they are, just for players who are sensitive to that kind of thing. It’s have to be subtle, or maybe something like a simple glowing trim
