How do you guys deal with angry team mates? I can’t stand them, they’re happy when winning, but as soon as they die they start swearing and complaining. The enemy used a tactic and beat them, that shouldn’t have happened! Or their team sucks, or the connection is bad, or they got spawn killed etc. From my experience it brings down team morale and makes it harder to communicate effectively.
So, is there a tactful way to tell them to shut the f up?

I struggle to tell them tactfully so I’ll wait here see how calmer, wiser people deal with them
I used to be that guy back in my early 20’s. Would rage when playing online… I had to remind myself that games were for fun. Scotch helps. But yea, like crazy said:

I generally mute them as well. I tend to keep my mic muted so if there is someone communicating I can communicate back. It’s the nature of the game that some people take it way too seriously for their own good.

Yeah exactly. Sometimes it’s people on my friends list… I tend to stop playing with them after a while.
Sometimes the game chat is like this:
Me: “There’s a sniper in red base”
Team mate 2: “Ok I’ll…”
Angry team mate: “FOR -Yoinks!- SAKE!!!”
Me: “What did you say team mate 2?”
Team mate 2: “I said they’re coming from…”
Angry team mate: “OMG WHAT THE HELL? HOW DID HE KILL ME?”
Me: “Ok, 2 guys pushing on blue…”
Angry team mate: “THESE -Yoinking!- CAMPING -Yoinks!-!!!”
Etc etc. Don’t they understand that they’re ruining the game for their team? I come across these types fairly regularly and just don’t see how they can be so angry. I play to win, and take the game seriously. More seriously than them, because I understand “tilt” and know that when I get angry and frustrated, I don’t play as well as I could.
And to be honest, when I have someone like that on my team, I find they bring everyone else down. I’ll try calming them down, saying stuff like “don’t worry we can come back from this”, “they’re only a couple of kills ahead, we’ll pull it back” etc. But as soon as they mess up again, their frustration starts again. It’s annoying as hell, I may have to do what some of you do and mute them. They’ll soon get the hint.

Well, that is objectively a disadvantage and quite annoying if you’re trying to organize with your team.
A substantially less-skilled team on a technical standpoint can beat a more skilled team if they communicate effectively and have superior tactics/set-up.

Yeah people who don’t use mics are also annoying, although if you want a good team then you should find some people to play with. I’ve been trying to find decent players, and tend to add people when I play a good game with them and the communicate well. But then the inevitable huffing and puffing starts when they play badly… and I’ll start playing with them less.
Yesterday I was called a retard for accidentally pushing into a base too far with a Gauss Hog, it was an honest mistake. The funny part was that I easily doubled the guys score and I had gotten a Killpocalypse earlier that game.
On occasion I will have my mic not muted and not realize it. I do tend to cuss from time to time. But I don’t dwell on it. I’m over it in 20 seconds or less and I’m laughing.
