"And now you hunt other Spartans"

After watching the ‘Remaking the Legend’ video and hearing Kieth David speak, he said (to Locke) “You are a hunter, yes? A seeker of things, and now you hunt other Spartans.”

What should we make of this? Does it go to show that Oni might actually be up to no good?

Is Locke “hunting” John? Or searching for him? Is he looking for other Spartans as well?

This piece of dialogue is a huge mystery, and I’m interested in wondering what you guys think it might mean, or infer.

Well the word “hunt” could be taken a lot of differnt ways… Although I’m hoping by him saying spartanS, that blue team poped smoke with chief.

Hunt =/= Out to kill.

I mean, When you played Hide and Seek as a kid, You would ‘hunt’ the others who were hiding, But you never killed them.

For this reason, It leads me to believe that Locke is merely hunting the Chief. Not to kill for, But for another purpose.

It’s interesting to see that Thel has taken note of something like this. Almost like this is the kinda thing that Locke does all the time to the point where news of it would reach Thel.

Does Locke hunt other Spartans on a regular basis? How many breaches in the Spartan branch have there been?

Are the elites shorter? Locke was looking face to face.

“But my friend’s trust is not the issue, Spartan Locke. It is my trust you must earn.” Is Locke trying to prove that he means no harm? Because it seems as though Thel knows how to find John, but first he wants to make sure that Locke is not a threat to him. Is Thel actually watching over John right now and protecting him?

Good question. Can’t wait to see how this all plays out.

Interesting.

“Is ONI up to no good?”

Dude, it’s ONI. I’m sure we’ll be made to believe Locke is the good guy, and then by game’s end, he’ll say or do something terrible and it’ll leave us with a cliffhanger about the role we just assumed while playing as him.

Locke’s official title is “ONI Acquisition Specialist.” His bio in the Halo Channel says that he specializes in “retrieving important objects held by enemy hands” (source, 0:45). I think it’s more likely that when he says “hunt,” he does not mean to kill, but rather to retrieve. They just chose the word “hunt” to make it sound more epic than it is.

Then again, that same vid says, “as well as tracking and assassinating high value targets”…

So yeah, Locke has his orders. However, I don’t think they’ll play out that way. He’ll be forced to work with Chief for the greater good, then come to a realization that Chief is NOT the enemy.

No doubt we’ll be shooting up Covenant and Prometheans. What about the idea that we might have to fight AGAINST the UNSC? If so, that could easily usher in a 2nd Insurrection. Imagine then that Locke and Chief are on the Insurrectionist side. That could lead to other Spartans joining their cause. That in turn could lead to humanity being torn apart from the inside, while forces like Jul 'Mdama’s fleet would stand ready to mop up afterwards.

Just sayin’

(This all stemming from Locke hunting down Chief)

i’m going to go ahead and say that master chief is running from ONI

Master Chief and ONI showdown: now that’s something that I want to play.

Well we all knew oni are EVIL

I’m not subscribed to it, but from what I’ve read from screens scanned off the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine (OXM), the Master Chief “has gone rogue”, or AWOL, in an attempt to revive Cortana. Obviously, for whatever reason we may soon learn, this has garnered ONI’s attention, enough to send Agent Locke to find him.

If you remember in the H2A announcement trailer, which also served as a glimpse to Halo 5: Guardians, the Arbiter tells Locke, “To find him you have to forget the stories, forget the legends…”

So he may not have orders to kill him, but he definitely needs to find him. Knowing ONI’s past and recent actions however, It wouldn’t surprise me if they decided to eliminate him, regardless of John’s military service and loyalty to humanity. As for “Spartan’s”, plural, meaning more than one, Locke may need to follow a trail of bread crumbs in order to find him first. Perhaps he’s searching for members of Blue Team? That’s where I would look.

Like others have said, hunt could be a lot of different meanings.

However, when it says ‘Now you hunt other Spartans, yes?’, I’m assuming that one of Locke’s major roles as an ONI operative is to track down other Spartans that have gone rouge or AWOL, like Chief may have. (Some may be thinking ‘no duh’.) At least for me, this clears up the whole special ONI Spartan thing.

Maybe when we play as chief we can kill the marines without them entering god mode.

What if Chief is dangerous and Locke is justified in tacking him down?

The transcript from that conversation is this

Arbiter: “My friends trust is not the issue here Spartan… It is MY trust you must earn”

Locke: “Arbiter”

Arbiter: “You are a hunter yes? A seeker of things”

Locke: " Well That’s not the official job title… But yes"

Arbiter: “And now you hunt other Spartans?”

Locke: “Not so much Spartans as THE Spartan”

Arbiter: “What is it that you seek?”

Locke: “One one seven”

some me words might be wrong but that is what I read from the dialog on the screen in the documentary.

In the trailer at E3 the arbiter says he all lives are at stake and that he trust Locke.

Let’s just hope 343 doesn’t ruin anything.
But with the Arbiter involved, I’m so looking forward to whatever will be happening. It’s exciting.
