And if the game is unfinished? Is that acceptable?

  • 343 Graphics Manager legitimately thinks the game shown yesterday looks good graphically. This could debunk the “old build” talk. He said that “for this piece of the puzzle, my team and I focused on the visual fidelity and performance. The Xbox Series X, our new platform, along with our Slipspace Engine, gives us tremendous amount of graphical power. My team and I worked closely with the content creators to get the degree of detail and polish to the highest quality”
“it took a herculean effort to make sure this little corner of our Ringworld was polished and pretty enough for its premiere! The art, lighting, design, environment, graphics, production and engineering teams involved in carving out and curating this little slice, are nervous and excited to show people a glimpse of what we’re building.”

That being said, the other parts of the game could look worse than what was shown yesterday. And they have 3-4 months. And for those that say it’s because of the Xbox One, know that graphics are scalable. So there are no excuses. And Red Dead 2 is an open world game this gen that has amazing textures and animation.

For those saying that it’s because of Halo art style… Know that you can have Halo art style whilst having realistic textures, lighting, shading, and overall graphical fidelity.

  • Ray tracing is added as a free update after the game is released. Read somewhere that it’ll be a year after release. Either way, it follows the “Release game now. Update and polish later” mentality.

  • Insiders from Twitter said there have been 1200 devs working on the game just to get it to release on time. Devs outside 343 and Xbox Game Studios. Essentially, they’re rushing it.

- Halo Infinite has to not only revitalize the franchise. But also be that beacon of light for all XGS exclusives. An idol for others to aspire to. Expectations are high for the game.

- Halo has a very high standard. It needs to be 90+ on metacritic to be a talking point in the game industry. To be considered Game of the Year. It needs to compete with The Last Of Us, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider Man, Red Dead Redemption, Cyberpunk, Doom, and much more.

One of the big reasons why Sony exclusives are extremely successful is because they allow the devs to delay their game if needed. Quality over Quantity. Form over Speed. Precision over Force.

I don’t expect the game to be delayed due to MS’s policy, politics, and mentality. Here just to express how I feel.

But is this what we’ve come to 20 years later?? Are MS and 343 so willing to rush their biggest flagship title and sacrifice the potential quality?? Is this what we deserve?? Releasing an unfinished game only for it to be updated after release won’t get the game 90+ on metacritic. It won’t be considered Game of the Year. Much less Best Game at BAFTA (which The Last Of Us won). The Last Of Us II was delayed from 2018 to 2020. And it’s a technical masterpiece on every level.

I know I’m ranting at this point. But it’s annoying that my (and many others) favorite franchise is being run down by corporation who cares more about money rather than quality of games. Who cares more about tradition rather than what is right. Releasing Halo Infinite on the dead corpse of the Xbox One was already a red flag to began with. The game is already held back gameplay design and AI wise. It won’t take advantage of the SSD, CPU, and etc.

I do hope the game will be delayed indefinitely until 343 is 100% sure the game will be 100% complete. All the contents available Day 1. All textures, animation, AI, design, lighting, shading, Ray tracing, art style, camera angle, control function, UI, and etc… All fixed and polished to the highest degree possible. “All” glitches fixed. Go that extra mile while the average won’t.

I know that will not happen. But also know that releasing a game that isn’t ready to be released will not enhance our experience.

Don’t worry, they’re letting us beta test the game when it launches. We’re such a blessed fan base.

I have a solution that is both simple and crazy: wait to buy the game until the patches have been made, until you see the videos and articles saying now is the time to buy it, similar to those of No Man’s Sky. The game will be optimized and will have more content than at launch. I personally don’t have the patience for that but it sounds like you might.

So you want it to be like Halo 5? Great. We all know how much the community disdains that game because it was released half baked.

Where did I say I wanted it to come out half baked like Halo 5? I suggested a way for you to get your later release that was optimized with more content. I didn’t say that was the best scenario or one that I wanted. I even said that I myself don’t have that kind of patience. I get that you’re angry but don’t let that anger limit your reading comprehension.

Then vote with your wallet and don’t support the game. I think the graphics could look better and I have a feeling they will be by the time it launches. If not, then 343 will deserve the criticism they get for not fixing the problem.

Speaking of reading comprehension, there’s this thing called “reading between the lines”.

You mentioned about patches. You mentioned about having more content after launch. All of that screams Halo 5.

I honestly don’t see why 343 wouldn’t make improvements. The minute-long trailer they released after the demo showcase had some better textures. I’d also wager playing the game on an actual Xbox Series X and TV will look better than over a stream.

It’s what they’re going to do. It’s not what I want. It’s just how it is. And you will have to deal with it just like the rest of us. Or not. I was just putting a suggestion out there but it’s clear now that’s not what you want. Have a great day. Do not respond to me again.

I noticed that. People have posted screenshots on Twitter. But the graphics manager being satisfied with what was shown yesterday does not help. Hopefully it will look better at release. But the question is how much.

I mean, I can’t really begrudge them. If this were business as usual, then yeah I might raise an eyebrow too. But with everything disrupted by COVID and a lot of work being done from home without the benefit of a studio, I’d probably be thrilled to get even what we saw out.

Having a game being developed in house by Microsoft be delayed is a pipe dream at best. I don’t see this game getting delayed at all. Your best bet is that they will release this game in a similar state as we saw yesterday and they will incrementally make changes if possible as the game ages. By the time everything has been “fixed”, they’ll have already started work on another game.

It would be way easier for 343 to tank the negativity and launch a game people are gonna buy/play anyway than refactor and revise assets which would take too much time and money to do within the four months this game is set to release.

I can’t even fathom having 1,200 employees working on a video game and have maybe a tenth of that being on art and somehow not having god tier visuals.
If this is true Bonnie should be fired.
Art should not be the last thing being polished. It should be bugs. Glitches. Working on implementing last minute additions to forge pallet before it hits gold.

Granted I’m not surprised. They spent two years doing jack -Yoink- because in 2017 they had to scrap the version of Halo 6 they were working on for not being true to the franchise.

Is there a source for this?
Because quite honestly, I cannot fathom 343 ever caring about their game “not being true to the franchise” after the travesty that was H5G.

no because that would be 3rd unpolished unreleased game. And hell even EA manage to make real good graphic " thats about it really"
The issue is they split the team way to tin and it showed.
The game felt like halowars 2 first person instead of a nitty grity halo. lot of stuff looked great some sound design here real good too. Music as usual good and game mechanics well that is up to everyone frankly.
It does seem farr from finished. feels like a falout 76 issue and i hope not i will trust they can do this.

Lol that’s not happening

343i has already lost the PR battle with yesterday’s demo so I’m not sure what to make of a half-baked game at this point. It’s entirely possible that they might treat this as a “work in progress” launch given the 10-year maintenance window. To answer OP’s question if it’s acceptable for 343i to launch an unfinished game again, the answer is absolutely not. They’ve had plenty of time and funding to get the job done and if they can’t manage a solid game after their fourth attempt, they should be forced off the project. Infinite is running on goodwill of the community at this point after MCC, H4, and H5 launches, so 343i needs to be laser focused on launching a complete game in November.
