I think most of you people know this, but I just saw it on the wiki, and now I am like: Then why where we send back to the Stone age? We had a cure, why not show it to the Forerunners and become ‘‘friends’’ in some way.
Cant wait for Halo 4 ofc! :)!
Source wiki:
The human leaders decided to take a third of the population and genetically alter them by inserting genes designed to fight Flood biomass and destroy the Flood gene imprints. They then took this third of the population and “fed” them to the Flood. The new genes aggressively killed off Flood bio-matter and destroyed the Flood until the few that survived were forced to escape. They would not reappear for another 9,000 years.
Not to be a jerk, but you’re posting in a Halo forum.
A place where people that live, breathe, and love Halo come to discuss things.
Do you honestly think nobody here is aware of that? Seriously?
There was no cure, read Primoridium.
I wouldn’t call sacrificing 1/3 of your population to give the flood a separate virus that would destroy them a cure…

I diden’t
There was no cure. Flood knows who to infect. They didn’t want to infect humans.
The humans escaped from the Flood and invaded Forerunner space. Unbeknownst of the Flood, the Forerunners believed that the humans launched a massive invasion on Forerunner territory. So they fought and crippled mankind. The humans knew they would be punished very hard; they probably guessed the coming utter annihilation of humankind. So in order to prevent the Forerunners from getting knowledge of the cure against the Flood, they destroyed the cure.
They thought that if the humans are going to be destroyed by the Forerunners, the latter don’t get the cure either.
In Halo: Primordium, it was revealed that a cure did not exist. In fact, the Flood itself could choose who it would infect and who not. It was all a great plan by the Timeless One to kick the Forerunners in their -Yoink-, a trick that should drive them crazy.
