Before you read further. This post will have spoilers form the Greg Bears books.
Maybbe this post has been done before if so Im sorry. But this is driving me nuts.
Im trying to figure out why the Didact is the “ancient evil”. In all of the greg bear books it made him out to be the good guy. The Didact was actully my favorite character thorugh out the books. Im mean I know he hated humanity and all but he took a liking to us after a while.
And for the people who say well Master Cheif blew up a Halo and the Ark. Well the Didact didnt really like the Halos to begin with. Plus Master Cheif killed the flood. So why should the Didact be mad. He should be throwing a party. One guy did what no Forrunner could do. Elimnate the Flood.
Now I know Im gonna have to wait till Halo 4 and maybe 5 & 6 to truly know. I just want to know your all thots please.
Maybe it’s not as straight forward as Didact being evil but rather there is something else more sinister on Requiem and said Forerunner brought Chief to Requiem to serve a purpose to destroy whatever this ancient evil is.
Well the reason Im believeing The Didact is the new enemey is cause when the trailer ended. The quote “an anicent evil awakends” with The Didact symbol behind the quote. Plus 343 said something about showing the Didact wrath upon humans.

The precursors are not evil. The Forerunners who are. The Flood is a weapon to see if the species are worthy the Mantle. The Ancient Evil is probably the Primordial. He’s way to tricky, he got to be alive.

Actually,
it was stated in the books that the Precursors would test other species to see if they were worthy of the Mantle. If they weren’t worthy, they were eliminated. The Forerunners found out about this plan and rose up against them. Somehow they succeeded, and the remaining Precursors fled outside of the galaxy. Still, the Precursors used their influence keep things going. That’s where Humanity came in.
The Precursors CREATED THE FLOOD! The Flood is their test to see if species were worthy. They were about to see if Humanity was worthy, but the Forerunners intervened. So, their plans were delayed.
The Precursors are the master manipulators here, and are very much evil.

The Primordial alone was able to destroy the entire Forerunner empire, control the flood and 2/3 of the Forerunner military by converting the Forerunner main I.A against them. If MC could even get close to the Didact, imagine a Precursor.
Btw, the Precursors didn’t fleed the galaxy. they are probably watching us closely from elsewhere. An evil species normally have good plans.
I’ve read all the books, and I don’t recall them stating anywhere that the Precursors created the Flood. Last I had heard, it was believed that the Primordial was a Gravemind, and not a Precursor.

lol yep. They’d have to make the AI 20x more worse than it is now to make even killing them possible. And that’d be very lame. If Precursors appear, it should be strictly cutscenes or scripted in-game events. I wouldn’t mind at least 1 boss battle though.
I’m likely over simplifying but as the Didact wants to put Humanity back to the stone age again (as it shows in the terminals) than why WOULDN’T he be the ancient evil? He wants the Forerunners to control the mantle despite knowing that Humanity is able to be greater than them should they be allowed to continue. He’s already doomed us back to the stone age once and wants/wanted to do it again.
