Ancient Evil Question

Is the ancient evil going to be a new class of enemies or just one entity who’s going to be a nemesis for Chief?

I hope the former, Halo 4 will be a bit lame if it’s just Promethean AI and Covenant… there’s gotta be more going on. And if so, do you think this new class of enemies will carry some of the new weapons that haven’t been revealed?

Prometheans make perfect sense to me. Don’t forget we’ve seen only 3 out of 7(?) Prometheans.

Well the Ancient Evil has yet to be revealed, so who can say. It would seem to be leaning towards the Forerunner known as the Didact…but if you’ve read the Forerunner Saga books and the Halo 3 terminals that notion doesn’t go too far. He’s ancient, but evil is a stretch…because he isn’t evil.

Its really unknown. We will have to wait.

Agreed, I have read em, just finished Primordium. Doesn’t make sense to me either that he would be Chief’s nemesis. If anything, it would be super bad-a to have him as your ally…>:)

Ancient Evil could be many, not just a singular entity by it/her/his self.

Some arrows point to Didact and the hellish AI constructs (Watcher, Crawler, Knight), others point to something else entirely.

Until we know more, guessing is the best we can do, for now.

All i know is, those new enemy types are hostile. Ancient…but are they evil? Hell, this Ancient Evil could possibly be something that hasn’t been introduced or hinted at yet. That would be mind blowing.

343 has stated a few times that, for the Reclaimer trilogy, the Chief will have a nemesis. So, it stands to reason that the Ancient Evil is an individual, but I’m sure it will have its own unique set of baddies to throw your way.

I think a few weeks ago in the Bulletin, Frankie said that the Ancient Evil hasn’t been revealed yet. Personally, I believe the Ancient Evil to be the Precursors.

I’m with Jordan, nothing else seems better as an ancient evil than the Precursors. They pre-date every race and they did wipe out entire sentient races when said races failed their arbitrary tests for the Mantle.

I sure hope it is. I know I and others would be pissed if the Didact were the Ancient Evil.

This is what I hope. I can’t quite remember the question, but it had to do with other enemies (enemy types?), and 343i answered that all haven’t been revealed, including the ancient evil.

^wut he sed lololol

Precursors just have the best motivation.

Their repeated tests of sentient races have all ended in failure and culminated to their downfall by the Forerunners. Those who lived created the Flood as another test, one where it seems submission to the Flood is the answer. Perhaps they’ll see that idea as a bad route and will ditch the test altogether and unify the galaxy as one lifeform…that they can control as evident by the Gravemind.

> “Resignation is my virtue; like water I ebb, and flow. Defeat is simply the addition of time to a sentence I never deserved… but you imposed.”

So Gravemind will be back and with it the continuation of the Precursors aggression. Makes more sense than “Evil For The Sake of Evil” Forerunners.

I look at it from this perspective: Didact is the Dragon of the trilogy and John’s nemesis. The precursors fulfill the role of Big Bad.

See:

Saren (dragon) and the Reapers (big bad) from Mass Effect
Darth Vader (dragon) and Darth Sidious (big bad) from Star Wars

And other noteworthy examples.

I’d rather not have a Didact who is still evil because he’s being controlled. He’s stronger than that and has ever reason NOT to ally with the Precursors in any form.

… a precursor does not have an english accent…jk but it is either didact or the leader of the worker class. he would sound snobby.

Presumably it’s Faber.

Forerunners were killing eachother in Primordium because of the Primordial. Gamelpar said it. So maybe Precursors have a bigger part then we think…after all, if the Primordial can make Forerunners fight eachother on Installation 07…

Also, humans being Reclaimers make sense when you think they’re “reclaiming” the Mantle from the Forerunner, as the Primordial once said: Forerunners were never meant to inherit the Mantle". It was also stated that humans would be tested next to inherit the Mantle…Reclaimer makes more sense now as a title for humans doesn’t it?

> I’d rather not have a Didact who is still evil because he’s being controlled. He’s stronger than that and has ever reason NOT to ally with the Precursors in any form.

According to Greg Bear there is two Didact’s running around. Maybe Bornstellar is the Chief’s ally, while the original Didact’s corpse was recovered and turned into a servant of the Precursors.

How does this happen? Who knows, but I’m just trying to rationalize how the Didact can be an enemy (a lot of hints in media are pointing to this), but not the end all enemy.

Yeah, ancient evil seems like a different kind of evil, one where it seems logical in the mind of a being so powerful to create “unity” through the Flood to where all life serves them. And that it will never end.
