An Organized, Thought-out, List Of Complaints

So far, I have enjoyed my Halo 4 experience.
However, I am afraid. I am afraid that once the “New Halo Hype” dies off, I will lose my interest in this game. It’s not a month into this game, and I am already worried about this.

These are my most pressing concerns:

The DMR.
The DMR overpowers all other starting weapons. The evidence is solid. If you glance around the forums, you can find the proof. It needs a nerf. The other day, I got out-sniped by a DMR, while I was using a Sniper Rifle on Ragnarok. (You can check my stats if you feel the need, GT: Sir Flashbakk, I am not a weak player. I have been a WMD with the sniper since H1)I got the first shot on him, hitting right below his head. Then he turned an lit me up with his DMR so fast, I couldn’t even back away. The viewkick from his DMR’s bullets is what messed me up the most. But when a STARTING rifle can outgun a SNIPER rifle from the downed Pelican to behind Red base, there is a problem. Not even to mention it can beat a sniper rifle half the time, and then best an AR, or dare I say SAW, in close range 8/10 times.

The vehicles, and lack of vehicle control.
The vehicles, the Ghost specifically, need something done about them. In current order, the vehicles have no control. The lack of respawning power weapons means their is no sure-fire way to dispose of them. If you get put on a bad team, like I always seem to be, there is no hop anymore if they have vehicle control. I used to be Semi-pro in H3 on my old account (I could never hold a team together, so I never got anywhere  ) and I knew, and timed all the the power weapons, so I could be at them when they spawned in. I cannot do that anymore, well, not effectively. (If you still can, let me know. Please.) But as I see it, the weapon drops are random on most maps.

The Ghost.
The Ghost can splatter a player, without even boosting. That is simply ridiculous. There is no hope when coming up against a Ghost. Sure, we all spawn with Plasma grenades, but the grenade mechanic on this game does not allow the grenades distance. The grenades have such a slow travel time you would have to lead the Ghost a good ten feet, which he can see the grenade, and change directions. The Ghost needs a Splatter nerf, so like in other games, you have to be boosting to result in a splatter on a full-shielded Spartan.

SWAT.
SWAT has been a favorite of mine since people made no shield servers on H1. Halo 4 SWAT is horrendous. Remove the DMR from SWAT. SWAT should be BR (and Carbines, depending on the communities view). The DMR is aim-bot accurate, has more rounds than the BR, and no muzzle climb. It obviously overpowers the BR. Either the BR, or the DMR need to be removed from SWAT. See how many people are inraged if the BR disappears from the playlist. ALSO, the one hit melee’s have got to go. They ruin the up close -Yoink!--attack’s for the headshot we all know and love.

Team Snipers.
Again, another one of my favorite playlists. Let me brag for a minute by saying 343i finally removed the Magnum from Team Snipes. Thank you. However, the Radar needs to go. It is much bigger than the previous games, and just a hindrance on surprise up-close-and-personal no-scope battles. Otherwise, Team Snipers is amazing. I love it.

Vote on next map.
The same map should not come up five times in a row. I believe 343i has fixed this a tad, but it still happens every now and then. Lets see some map variety. More Slayer maps need to be opened up, like Ascent, Settler, and I would love to see Relay in 4v4 slayer, or even SWAT.

Grenades.
The grenades in this game just feel clunky. You are a Spartan super soldier, and you can only throw grenades at 3 mph, and about 20 yards? What? This needs to be fixed. The grenades are frustrating to use in my opinion.

The lag issues.
I know this is being looked into, but still. I experience a patch of lag atleast once ever match. This results in unneeded deaths and all over rage.

The MatchMaking.
I cannot tell if this game has a “No Player Left Behind” system that matches good players with bad player on their team, so the bad players have a fighting chance, but I don’t like it. 9/10 times I get paired with a team of Helen Kellers. I am a decent player, and I want to play with decent players on my team, and against me. I don’t want to have to throw on my back pack and carry a team of three every game I play without a party of people.

The In-Game Scoreboard.
I want to see exactly how many kills I have, and how many deaths I have . I, personally, don’t like this point system that is in place. I don’t feel like it is hindering the game, but it certainly not adding to it.

Spontaneous combustion.
Sometimes I will just die. No real reason at all. I check the Theater. No shots taken. I watched a friend walk along side a Mantis at the beginning of a match, and just explode. It treated it like suicide, but he didn’t do anything except sprint along side a Mantis.

Turrets.
Will someone explain to me why the stationary turret takes like, 3 seconds to dismount? (Not the real time) I hop on the turret in Ragnarok to suppress enemies and give my team a much needed open window to act. But with these turrets, I press the B-button to dismount, and have to wait. Usually resulting in my death. I doubt anyone else even notices this, or cares, but I would greatly appreciate the turret to be a bit more responsive.

"Wallbanging."
A term used in Call of Duty for shooting a player through a wall resulting in his death. This happened to me moments ago. If you don’t believe me, check my file share. Again, GT: Sir Flashbakk. You will see my Spartan dying, and the enemy who shot me behind a wall, with his bullets penetrating the wall, directly into my head. This could be a lag issue, but I am not sure. It happens twice a day, for me at least.

Zooming while under fire.
Please for the love of God, remove the ability to stay in zoom while being shot. It hinders the game beyond belief. One tiny paragraph cannot express the multiple ways it breaks this game. The ability to zoom while taking damage also plays into the DMR being OP. No one is happy to see this feature in the game. It is a must go.

Minor things that get under my skin.

  • The Ghost and Banshee turrets are a bit strong.
  • The Shielding Tactical Package does little to nothing.
  • Sometimes I feel like I don’t realize I am taking damage until my shields are down. (I may just not be paying enough attention. Never had this problem before, though.)
  • The Scattershot is next to worthless.
  • Plasma Pistol drains entirely too fast.
  • Melee’s are unreliable.

This pretty much sums up my complaints on the multiplayer.
This post has been spanned over three days, to ensure all of my problems are accounted for.
Please leave your ideas, but try to be respectful. As I have tried to be respectful in this post. If you have suggestions that could fix the problems listed, please post your ideas.
If you have other complaints I did not post here, feel free to leave them in a comment.
I suppose i’ll hop in some Team Snipers now. Enjoy the thread, and best of luck on the battlefield, comrades.

I went through each and carefully read and now I share my thoughts respectfully.

The DMR.
I can agree on the DMR but the slight nerf they did helped a lot.

The vehicles, and lack of vehicle control.
I honestly don’t see what your talking about

The Ghost.
The ghost seems bugged to me for half the time I splatter some one, its the equivalent of hitting a rock. This only happens to me in a ghost. At least its not the halo CE splatter

SWAT.
The dmr is fine, it just needs aim assist taken off or nerfed. Its current op state messes swat up. I don’t think the carbine should be added because its rate of fire is faster than the BR and DMR

Team Snipers.
Yes! 100% snipers pro! I never have time to look at the radar because the enemy team usually bum rushes me and ruins my sniping experience. So I can agree on the removal of the radar but in general, I don’t care if its there or not.

Vote on next map.
I actually got to play something other than Ragnarok! I feel this issue will be fixed when the first map pack launches.

Grenades.
Honestly, I never thought about this. At the same time, I feel the grenades are fine due to the map size. Cross map hail marries should not happen even though they would be interesting.

The lag issues.
Ah yes, Lag has always been an issue from servers and lag switches. I simply hope this continues being addressed and improved on

The MatchMaking.
With the lag issues I’ve been having, I cannot steadily agree or disagree on this one.

The In-Game Scoreboard.
I completely agree. I still fail to see why they went to a points system.

Spontaneous combustion.
This has annoyed the heck out of me. I agree it needs to be fixed.

Turrets.
over animation. I feel they should speed up the animation

"Wallbanging."
This has happened to me since reach. I wish I could shoot through walls back. I agree that this lag issue needs to be fixed.

Zooming while under fire.
I kinda prefer the flinching over zooming out. Both equally annoying imo.

Minor things that get under my skin.

  • I somewhat agree on the ghost and banshee plasma cannons. I enjoy them not being useless though.
  • mobility is the most effective tac pack imo.
  • Id say your just not paying attention or your experiencing lag when it comes to shields.
  • The Scattershot is next to worthless. <- agree stamps all over
  • Plasma Pistol drains entirely too fast. <- more agree stamps
  • Melee’s are unreliable. <- it takes two to kill someone still. It hasn’t changed. Swat has the exception. it seems one melee kills in swat

My answers are mostly bias to my experience

> – Grenades.
> The grenades in this game just feel clunky. You are a Spartan super soldier, and you can only throw grenades at 3 mph, and about 20 yards? What? This needs to be fixed. The grenades are frustrating to use in my opinion.

Agreed. They also tend to be bouncy, missing their targets. I’m glad super grenade throw exists. Also, the FoV should be bigger.

Yeah some of the animations are just absurdly long.

-I think the AI pilots should be less accurate so it’s possible to strafe their shots. You could do that in CE
-it works fine in Spartan Ops
-shield bar placement probably (CE and Halo 2 were much more preferable IMO). Or it could be that the shield meter goes down in one direction. Reach had the shield go down towards the middle, which may have been more reliable
-it’s best to augment it with hardlight shield (for approach), a tactical package, and/or support upgrade
-you should only hold the charge when you see the enemy coming
-agreed. I liked CE’s melee range because I felt powerful, I could land hits on infection forms, it was immersive

Thank you both for being honest and respectful with your opinions.

What I meant by the Melee’s being unreliable is the lack of lunge. I never noticed how important it was to the melee system, until I didn’t have it. Haha. Not a major issue, though.

Got to be honest I agree with everything, like you read my mind lol.

> No one is happy to see this feature in the game. It is a must go.

No one you know. It’s a casual friendly feature that, gasp, casual people like

Also, the ghost? Just jump or use the plasma pistol.

I find the BR to be just as good as the DMR in mid-range. Also a BR can take down a sniper just like the DMR. I believe you should be taken from scope once you are hit also. I like the scatter shot, but I believe that due to its mechanic that you need some distance for it’s scatter to do damage, too many times have I been point blank and the scatter shot misses entirely. As for everything else I agree.

> Got to be honest I agree with everything, like you read my mind lol.

Haha, well I am glad to know I am not alone here. Maybe things will get patched. -fingers crossed-

Come on guys, lets not let this thread die. I think I made some valid points.

Generally agree with most everything except the Ghost, half the time I boost to splatter people running in a straight line or just plain not moving at all, I bounce off them and do not get a kill, maybe I’ll pop their shields. Not sure why. It’s happened too many times for me not to take the time to post about it.

I agree with the removal of the radar in Snipers, not sure who thought it would be a good idea to have it in the first place and sniping in this game in general just feels kind of off. I guess I was expecting old Halo sniping, I think they were/are called “drag shots” or “sweep shots” but it doesn’t feel the same.

> What I meant by the Melee’s being unreliable is the lack of lunge. I never noticed how important it was to the melee system, until I didn’t have it. Haha. Not a major issue, though.

The lunge compensated for the decrease in damage radius.

i agree with a lot of what u say. the grenades are awful. the mechanics behind them are terrible. stickies were tremendous in previous games but now u cant hit someone standing right in front of you. SWAT is fine if u feel the DMR gives people an advantage over the BR then use the DMR. problem solved! we need to remember that a lot of things will be improved upon if the arguments are articulate and valid. yours are. well done!

My list of things that are actually worse then previous Halo games

  1. Grenades why is the timer about 10 seconds
  2. Vehicles are next to useless
  3. What’s up with the fileshare
  4. Custom game options are gone really 343 why?
  5. No ranked playlists
  6. Ridiculous xp going +10 get you 100 more xp than -5
  7. Map voting system is broken
    8 join in progress
  8. Weapons despawn almost instantly
  9. Awful playlist… Where are dubs FFA ect
  10. Loadouts make the game so uneven it’s funny
  11. No real visible true skill ranking system
  12. The xp cap
  13. Emblems are missing
  14. Awful lag

Spartan Ops
Spartan Ops is an attempt by 343 and Microsoft to extend the life of their game. The Episodic content gives players five “free” missions a week as well as a CGI cutscene to extend the story. Their system of distributing this content is flawed on many levels.

Xbox Live
Spartan Ops is far too connected to Xbox Live. It not only requires a connection to download (which is fine considering what it is) but player MUST have Gold and MUST remain connected while playing. Once an episode is acquired, it can only be used by the account that did so (unlike all other DLC) and they must remain on Gold to replay missions.

This means that once the 360 has come to an end and the current iteration of Live is shut down, Spartan Ops will be completely unplayable. If you’re having problems with your internet provider, it will always impact your gameplay, regardless of whether you are playing Co-op or not.

These issues lead to even more:

  • Imagine a parent who allows their children to play their games with them. I’ve seen such people a number of times on these forums. To play Spartan Ops with their children (let’s say they have two) they’d have to pay for a Gold subscription for each child, as well as themselves. This would far exceed the cost of the game itself.

  • Season one is supposedly included in the price of the game. Yet to buy it you HAVE to have a Gold account. Essentially, you’re paying for two games, one of which will eventually no longer be playable.

  • People throw around the fact that a year long subscription to Gold is around the same price as a game. What they forget is that many players do not buy many games a year because they can’t afford to. Games are already overpriced, this just makes the problem worse. (Also keep in mind that the $60 price tag is US, other countries have to pay much more. Some are forced to pay well over $100 for a new game).

  • 343 have mentioned that future season will probably not be free. If the system stays the same, Silver accounts will not be able to purchase and play them, despite the fact that they can do so with all other DLC.

If the system does change for future seasons, and become more like other Seasons, new players will be missing out on the first season and its story.

All of this is not simply a problem for consumers, but for Microsoft too. They’ve been so focused on immediate profits, they’ve not thought about how this will play out in the long run. Most Xbox owners do not use Live. Spartan Ops was an attempt to attract new players, however many of these people were put of by the price, this new attraction will cost them even more, why would they buy it? Many people will not be able to justify the price.

By trying to add more features for Xbox Live, they may actually turn off more people. Cheaper immediate costs can often increase long term profits. I urge Microsoft to rethink this approach.

It does take way too long to drop the turret.

> SWAT is fine if u feel the DMR gives people an advantage over the BR then use the DMR. problem solved! !

I hate to use this argument, but it’s the way I honestly feel;
I’ve played every Halo before this. My first Halo was Halo: CE for the computer. I even played Custom Edition, Halo 2, 3, ODST, Halo Wars, and Reach. (God bless Reach… Terrible game.) And the BR has been my weapon of choice, as it has been for most players. In fact, I believe in the time I spent in Halo 3 MLG and H2 and 3 SWAT, I think I developed a certain bond between me and the BR. Some sort of love. It’s simply frustrating to me to finally have my BR back, and it be next to useless. I have noticed as the game progresses, more and more people are using the DMR and hanging in the back of the map. That’s not the way I, nor many, played Halo until this game. I’ve been playing longer, why should I have to adapt to this new playstyle? I don’t want the DMR to be the god-gun, and I don’t want the BR to be, either. But if it had to be one of them, I would prefer to BR, because its lack of long range capabilities made players have to engage in medium to short range, forcing them to move to get kills. The DMR strikes out almost as far as a Sniper. So not only does it fill the Assaust and Battle rifle’s niche, it also fills the Sniper’s niche.
To me, Stats mean little to nothing. To see how effective a gun is in a video game, you have to see how its being used. The DMR is being abused because of its ability to fulfill all the other niches. Hell, it even destroy’s vehicles faster than any other starting weapon. Haha.

^^ Agreed. This are also some of my concerns, however this thread I just directed towards the multiplayer. I also have a few concerns about the Campaign, aswell. But you summed this up very nicely.

Man, this thread has problems keeping its head above water.

I just experienced the worst lag in my Halo life.
