an opinion about the changes to halo

So, as to be expected there is some concerns with what we have seen from the MP in H4.

What I (and probably everyone else who welcomes some change) have noticed, is that all of the complaints seem to be "Halo 4 will have this, but Halo 2/3 didn’t and they were the best titles in the series for MP" (to put it simply).

If you want Halo to succeed, then you can’t expect 343i to cater exclusively to the competitive gamers when most people including myself, see playing Halo as something to do to pass the time and have a bit of fun. I’ve played Halo games since the first week that CE came out, and I highly doubt that the series would survive if 343i simply made Halo 4 to play like Halo 2/3 with some prettier textures.

Forgive this next part, but i’m not really up to date with the Call of Duty titles. I recall them recently selling mw3(?) for $100 labelled as a brand new game. But then everyone realised it was basically Black ops with a different campaign, and everyone got mad at the developer.

I’m sure that 343i will incorporate a wide amount of game types to satisfy everyone, and that the competitive community will be given the options they want to essentially play Halo 2/3 again. But in the end, games need to change in order to keep people interested.

I’ll probably get a fair bit of hate from people, but hey, its just an opinion and everyone has their own

Thanks guys!

I disagree. If they made Halo 4 an exact replica of Halo 2 (without the glitches) I think it would be a success, as well as bringing back the fans that left the series. I know plenty of people who would come back to play Halo (even buy a Xbox) if it was like the older games.

Anyway, just because people want it to be like Halo 2 or 3 (they’re not the same, contrary to belief) doesn’t automatically mean they’re competitive players.

Call of Duty: MW3 received hate because, it was another lowering of CoD’s already small skill gap (that was established in CoD 4 and has been progressively lowered since) to the point where it’s a joke, the overpricing of DLC, and the fact that the campaign was entirely forgettable. (who were the US soldiers again?)

Previous CoD titles sold well due to CoD 4 being an amazing game, the sequels basically copying it’s formula whilst lowering the MP skill gap for new players, decent production and presentation, word of mouth hype, and the fact that everybody is intrigued by Spec Ops units.

I can see where you’re coming from. I stopped playing games competitively online just after Halo 3 from memory. So being a ‘casual’ gamer to to speak, i’m welcome to any new features that a series might want to try out.

And in some ways, you could almost consider Halo 4 as a testing ground for the games in the series after it. 343i needs to make Halo come across as a new game, so some risks need to be taken. and if it turns out those risks are too much, then they can adapt in the future. Like I say though, no matter what they add/remove, you’ll never be able to satisfy everyone
