I’d feel like it could be a great replacement for the AR, which ultimately boils down to a weapon meant for spraying, with a small skill gap.
I see the LMG having 24 bullets per clip, shooting around 3-4 bullets per second.
It would have noticeable recoil, meaning that you aiming straight down while simultaneously shooting the LMG would roughly balance each other out.
It could take 9 shots to kill, equating to slightly less than a 2 second kill time.
The reticle will be roughly the size of the one we saw on the BR in ‘First Look’ (I personally feel the BR in itself should have a smaller reticle).
I think this could be a viable replacement for the AR (provided 343 has the concept of an LMG type gun), as well as a viable weapon choice in general. It’ll also have an increased skill gap compared to the AR.
I’m thinking that being able to empty your clip in three seconds and needing to hit with 9/16 of your ammo, while having to counter the recoil seems like it wouldn’t work to me, But i’m stupid.

Ammo per clip was one of the characteristics I made up on a whim, I can see where you’re coming from.

I thought slightly less than 2 seconds was reasonable, given that the gun in theory should take more skill than the AR, and it has a substantial amount of recoil.
It’s really meant to be a viable close-distance automatic weapon.

Yeah, 5 rounds a sec is too fast, the M249 fires off 50 rounds a minute, which may not sound that fast, but you’d have to had a chance to fire at lest 200 rounds in one sitting to understand that any faster, and you’d run into problems.
NavG123, take it from a guy who has fired over 800 rounds using a SAW, You don’t want a fire speed of 5 rounds a second, you’ll eat through your ammo, heat up your barrel quickly, and it would be really hard to shoot when standing. the only weapons that can get away with a 5 RPS firing speed are Gatling guns, but only because they have more than one barrel.
Also, SAWs can fire from three different magazines, a normal M16/M4 Magazine, a Box Magazine, and by Belt from a can.
I’m all for a new gun besides the AR, I’d be willing to bring back the SMG’S. But i just wish we coudl still duel wield, what was better then using a Magnum and an SMG?

Lowest RoF I was thinking would be 4 RPS. 3 is way too low. Ammo per clip could be increased to 24, and reload time also increased given that it is a machine gun.

I would go 2RPS, which around what the SAW uses, on the SAW you can hold down the trigger and burn through 100 rounds before the barrel starts getting too hot.
an LMG with a 16 round belt? whats the point? you are aware most LMGs have 100-200 round belts right? anyway auto weapons in general have been terribly integrated in every halo game thus far if you want an auto weapon with such a shallow mag perhaps the M6J carbine which is an M6 magnum with a stock and I would assume a longer barrel and fore stock.

From my experience the M249 (SAW) squad automatic weapon, fires 2 rounds a minute. buta buta jam, buta buta jam. buta buta jam.
Make it like the halo 1 AR. 60 rounds at 15 rounds a second. Maybe give it 120 rounds. It is the future. Obviously horrible recoil to compensate for the raw fire power.

That’s been my experience with a poorly maintained SAW trying to fire blanks from a M16 Magazine, but once I sat down with another soldier who spent some time over seas with a SAW, I had that SAW cleaned, and I used it on the range, and it fired 300+ rounds, from a belt.

Oh i have fired thousands of rounds through them but they dirty up fast, and yes, magazines were the worst offenders. Marine corps infantry, 86-92
