An idea to make Spartan Ops infinitely better

ADD ORDNANCE!

I’m not talking about the scripted drops that happen every few missions, I’m talking about the ordnance drop system from War Games, except, allow players to choose ANY weapon from the ordnance system. It’s PvE so it’s not imbalanced.

Here’s how it would work.

After a player gets X kills (however many it should be):

The ordnance ready will show and then you choose: UNSC, COVENANT, PROMETHEAN.

You select which faction from which you’d like a drop, it’s not like the Infinity doesn’t have enemy tech in stock.

For UNSC:

You select between: Sniper Rifle, Heavy Weapons, Shotgun.

If you selected Heavy Weapons: Railgun, Spartan Laser, Explosives

If you selected Explosives: Rocket Launcher, Sticky Detonator, (Can be filled later)

For COVENANT:

You selected between: Close Range, Medium Range, Beam Rifle

If you select Close Range: Energy Sword, Gravity Hammer, Needler

If you select Medium Range: Fuel Rod Cannon, Concussion Rifle, (Can be Filled Later)

For PROMETHEAN:

You select between: Binary Rifle, Scattershot, Incineration Cannon

I think this is a pretty cool idea, and it allows players to play with their favorite weapons. It also makes the fullest use of the Ordnance System that Infinity provides. There are some details that could be attended to, but I’ve laid out a general plan for it, and I think that it’s a worthwhile idea for those who want to get the most out of Spartan Ops.

Let me know what you think, and feel free to throw some suggestions.

I would rather they didnt…

They give you more then enough (most of the time) weapons as it is…

Dosent it also break flavor on some of the maps where you cannot be reached by UNSC? Or if they could drop Ordinances why not drop other Spartans?

I just dont see it as a good addition…

They need to innovate the gameplay other ways first before SOPs actually becomes interesting to play.

E.g. stop making me face waves of enemies and pushing buttons.

Waves of enemies is the core mechanic behind Sops though…

not a bad idea

I think it’s an interesting suggestion. However, I would not include the option for choosing which faction; instead I would just allow for whatever random assortment is often available.

The reason I think this is interesting is that given the rate dropped weapons disappear, it allows a player a second chance should they get killed. I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ll pick up a heavy weapon useful for taking on Hunters or other bigs, only to get steamrolled by lucky Phantom blasts or other unfortunate circumstances and die, and now I re-spawn without a heavy weapon. If I had an ordnance drop up my sleeve, I at least have another chance.

And every time I see someone complaining about “waves of enemies” and “button pushing,” I wonder what they must think of the campaign.

I find it better to earn the weapons by killing the enemy. However most maps have so much extra UNSC and Covie weapons that power weapons are never hard to find not to mentoin that fact that those weapons respawn

//\ I 110% agree!! boring. clear wave…activate switch…extraction.

They give you infinite ammo for your loadout weapons, but when they drop ordnance, it’s always the same stuff, only UNSC weapons, when they do drop ordnance.

And you can’t just drop a Spartan through a little canister instantly, it would take a few minutes.

As for breaking flavor, what do you mean maps where you cannot be reached by the UNSC?

less invisible sword elites when you are trying to beat the chapters without dying would be nice

Try shootout in valhalla on legendary without using the mantises. Fighting 6+ hunters at once is a lot of fun.
